TheIrise Story:

Irise Internationalwasfoundedinresponse toconcernsvoicedbyEastAfricanschoolgirlsduringresearchtoexplorebarrierstoschoolengagement.

Girlsfeltthatinadequateprovision formenstruationwashavinganegativeimpactontheirability toengageineducation. Atthetime,therewasvery littleawareness oftheissueandalackofevidence ontheimpactoftheproblem andeffective interventions.

Irise arguesthatpoorMenstrualHygieneManagement (MHM)isadriverofgender inequality andabarriertogirls’educationandempowerment, butthateffective evidence-based solutions canbedeveloped anddelivered atscalewithin5years.
