PRENATAL DEVELOPMENT
Turns out, that freedom of movement was due
to my small size, even as an infant—and thisproved to be the case when I entered the
world weighing barely 7 pounds.
She said that the first thing she did when shesaw me was to check if I had complete toes andfingers. She even bought a new dress to wearso that I’d have a good first impression of herwhen she visits for the first time, but I was sotiny I could barely open my eyes.
When my mother was conceiving me, shehonestly thought that I was a boy. She said
that it’s because the baby in her womb wasso energetic, it kept moving and spinning andkicking around.

My parents would always praise me whether I dance well or not,
so I’ve always believed I’m good
at dancing.
Mama: “Dresses didn’t really flatter you eh, sojumpers na lang.” =)) HAHAHA
Me (while looking at baby pics):
“Ma, why am I always dressed in jumpers and shirts? Shouldn’t I
be wearing dresses more often when I was younger?
I also developed my love fordancing when I was young.
In school we’d annually have this
field demo, where the whole
batch will dance, and since I wassmall, I always get to be in front.
Contrary to gender socialization, my mom
dressed me up in boy clothes because I
looked more like a boy. =))

As a child, I was known to have a difficult
temperament.
My mom would often recall that I
was very grumpy, and I wanted to
get things my way.
For example, when there were family
reunions, I’d sometimes prefer to stay at
home alone and color my coloring books.
Even as a child, I was attached to books.
As a toddler, I was a certified

My nickname for
my brother :)
Growing up with my brother, Justin, saved mefrom loneliness . With my younger bro, every
day is an adventure.
Since my brother and I were almost the
same age, I spent most of my childhood
playing with him. We were very close.
MY BROTHER, MY 1ST PLAYMATE
If I was often mistaken for a boy, he was
always mistaken as a girl. If I was thegrumpy child, my brother was the
angelic one. They said I was always grumpy with
everyone, except for my brother and my
father.

We are exact opposites: He’s great at any sport he
tries, while I excel in academics. I think we’re
mutually compensating for the skills we lack,
which the other has.
He can make friends with anyone, while I’m the
introvert . I easily get discouraged, but my
brother’s fighting spirit always pushes me to go
forward and persevere.
If there’s one virtue my brother helped me develop,it’s PATIENCE . =)) I learned this by dealing with him.
HAHA
Another great thing about having a brother is you
have a companion wherever you go. When my
brother and I are together we’re never out of place. :D

I would demand gifts on my bday. (Ispecifically wanted a music box.)
Since I was a grumpy child, I carried that traitwith me to school. From prep to grade 2, I was
known as the “maldita” and bully in the batch.
Though I don’t remember it, my classmateshave ‘bully stories’ of me.
I’d get their place mat, writing pad,
and other stuff and claim them asmine. They say I’d really argue itout.
I’d write their names on the boardif they’re noisy.

Thankfully, I changed when I was in grade 3. I stopped
being “mataray” and made friends.
I rode in a school bus to get to school for 12 years
(from prep to 4th year), where I made lastingfriendships with my busmates.
Aside from sharing mornings and afternoons together,
we’d often go out swimming and hanging out at each
other’s houses. On some days we go to a busmates’
village and feast on isaw and scramble. =))

We started to get close when I
was in grade 2.
My mom and I never got along
when I was a kid because she
said I was too “mataray”.
I soon realized that she was
the coolest mom around. She’d
ALWAYS make me laugh.
When I’d choose to stay home
and study, she’d urge me toattend our class soirees.
Whenever I have an event to
attend, she’d be more excited to
buy me an outfit and dress me up.
I can tell her ANYTHING, and
she’d always get what I mean.
Soon, we became very close.
She supports me in whatever I
do, and she’d always find a way
to make me feel loved.
She knows all my friends, and
they all love her too. They
always say I’m lucky to have a
mother like her.
My mother,
my best friend
Because of this and other
countless reasons, I love my
mother. And everyday, I thank
God for her.
While other teens were having
petty fights with their moms, Ideveloped a special kind of
friendship with my mother.

My mother has been serving as a lector ever
since I was young, and she inspired me to
serve in our parish as well.
She’s also the one who led me to deepen my
spirituality, making me the religious person I
am now.

HIGH SCHOOL
So far, high school has been the most
memorable period of my life.
I had a fun barkada whom
I always hang out with.
Every year I was always theclass tutor, so I gained respect
from my classmates.
I had good grades, and people
believed I could achieve anything.
I graduated with honors
I served as a class president in my
senior year, and I consider this the
best decision I ever made in high
school.

High school woudn’t
have been complete
without my barkada.
We’ve shared life stories over
fries and float, sleepovers,
swimming trips, and random
photoshoots together.
School plays, Camping,
Retreats—these are events
unique for high school, and I’m
glad I had friends to share them
with.

August 20, 2010 Marist School Athletic League
I was invited to be a muse
for one section in Marist
School, Marikina.
This is also the day when themost awkward moment of my
life happened.
During lunch break, this guy
(on the left) who was my
supposed-to-be prom date
(but wasn’t able to make it)approached me with a
bouquet of flowers in their
school cafeteria.
He said he wanted to apologize.
Since it was lunch, there were
a lot of boys in the cafeteria, and everyone turned to look at
us.
For me, I thought this event
was the kind to happen in
books, but not in real life.
That’s why I’ll never forget it.

Graduation served as the
culmination of my high school
experiences.
I received awards my classmates
and teachers nominated me for, and
I was privileged to deliver the
valedictory speech.

Immersing with the Aeta families for 3 daysin Tarlac is an experience I consider as life-
changing.
I fell in love with the mountains,
the people, and the beauty of living
a simple life devoid of technology
and dependent on nature. .
After HS graduation, I joined schoolmates
and teachers for the annual immersion in
indigenous communities.

I’ve always believed that a person can be defined not by her looks
or achievements, but by her experiences. These are the
experiences I’ve had so far, and these are the experiences that
shaped me to become who I am now.
