    2. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Single component, water basedelastomeric sealants intended foruse as firestop system components.

Basic Use: A/D FIREBARRIERSeal and Seal NS are designed foreconomical use in joint and servicepenetration firestop configurations. They form durable, flexible, watertight bonds with mostconstruction materials. In mostcases, no primer is required.Physical properties will remainstable over time.

Composition and Materials:A/D FIREBARRIER Seal may bepumped or poured into the opening.

A/D FIREBARRIER Seal NS (non-slumping) is designed for trowel andspray applications.

A/D FIREBARRIER Seal and SealNS contain water and must beprotected from freezing and fromwater until fully cured. Store, transport and install at temperaturesabove 40F (5C).Colors:A/D FIREBARRIER Seal isblue in color. Seal NS is available inwhite or red please specify whenordering. The white version of SealNS in 5 gal (18.9 L) pails may betinted in the field with a variety ofcolor tint pastes. Refer to Seal NSTintingdata sheet.Packaging: A/D FIREBARRIERSeal and Seal NS are available in 5US gallon (18.9 L) pails. Theoreticalcoverage per pail is 40 ft

    2(3.8 m

    2) at

an applied wet film thickness of 0.2in. (5 mm) and approximately 64 ft

    2

    (5.7 m2) at 1/8-in. (3 mm) wetthickness. Seal NS is also availablein 10.3 fl. oz. (304mL) and 28.7 fl.oz. (850 mL) tubes.

    Application Limitations:

Do not install when ambienttemperature or temperature ofsubstrate is below 40F (5C).

Protect from freezing and wateruntil sealant is fully cured.

Do not install to surfaces withspecial protective or cosmetic

coatings without prior consul-tation with manufacturer andfirst testing adhesion.

Do not install where directcontact with food will occur.

Do not install where abrasion orphysical abuse is anticipated.

Seal is intended for horizontalapplications only. Seal NS canbe used for vertical andhorizontal applications.

Seal and Seal NS have beentested in numerous firestop joint

and through-penetration firestopsystems. For best economy andperformance the product shouldbe applied to a thickness equalto or slightly greater than theminimum test design thickness.Excessive depth to width ratiosmay cause sealant failure donot apply excessive thick-ness. As a guideline, werecommend that the minimum

test system thicknesses not beexceeded by more than 25%.

Standards: A/D FIREBARRIERSeal and Seal NS have been firetested in accordance with thefollowing: ULC-S115-M, StandardMethod of Fire Tests of FirestopSystems, ASTM E814-83 and

ANSI/UL 1479, Standard Method ofFire Tests of Through - PenetrationFire Stops and ANSI/UL 2079,"Tests for Fire Resistance ofBuilding Joint Systems."

done on the same day in which thesealant is applied.

Priming: A/D FIREBARRIER Sealand Seal NS generally do notrequire priming. In view of theunpredictability of surface charac-teristics, it is recommended that atest sample of sealant be applied onthe surface to test adhesion.

Masking: Areas adjacent toopenings to be firestopped can bemasked to assure a neat

appearance. The masking tapeshould not be allowed to touch theclean surface to which the seal is toadhere. Remove masking tapeimmediately.

A/D FIREBARRIER Mineral Wool isthe required backup material forfirestops.Install backup materials asspecified.A/D FIREBARRIER Seal isintended only for horizontal

applications. Check fire test designfor required thickness - usually 0.2in. (5 mm) wet. Pour or pump Sealin a continuous operation to fill andseal the opening. A light pass with

a trowel over the surface of the sealwill ensure a smooth surface.A/D FIREBARRIER Seal NSis non-slumping and may be sprayed ortrowelled for vertical and / orhorizontal applications. For sprayapplications refer to Table 2. Checkfire test design for requiredminimum wet film thickness -usually 0.2 in. (5 mm) or 1/8 in. (3.2mm).Excess sealant should be wipedfrom glass, metal and plastic

surfaces while uncured. Clean up iswith water.CURED SEALANT IS USUALLYVERY DIFFICULT TO REMOVEWITHOUT ALTERING OR DAM-
