Fig 500APPLICATIONS
The Fig 500 High Lift Safety Valve has
been designed primarily for use on unvented
hot water heating systems, where a high
capacity, emergency steam relief capability is
required. High capacity and resilient PTFE
seating, also make the Fig 500 ideal for steam,
air and inert gas applications. A PTFE to
Viton seating design is also available where
greater seal tightness is required.
CONSTRUCTION
The Fig 500 is constructed in gunmetal,
with diaphragm protected working parts and
PTFE to metal seating. All wetted parts are
manufactured from dezincification resistant
materials, approved by the Water Research
Centre for use on potable water. Standard
inlet and outlet connections have female
threads to BS 21, with the outlet connection
one size larger than the inlet. Sizes from DN20
upwards, are available with flanged inlet
connections; other thread forms are also
available. For other specific technical
requirements refer to drawing 704 or consult
Nabic technical department.

The discharge capacity of a safety valve must be equal to or greater than the output of the boiler or system it is protecting.
Fig 500 capacities are tabulated below to assist selection.
To convert to Btu/hr multiply by 3,400
The capacities tabulated are for unvented (pressurised or sealed) heating systems.
For vented systems we generally recommend the use of Fig 542 Safety Relief Valves. Fig 500 Safety Valves can be used for highoutput systems where its greater discharge capacity is advantageous.
For unvented hot water supply systems, Fig 500T Combined Pressure & Temperature Relief Valves should be used.

Fig 500TAPPLICATIONS
The Fig 500T Combined Pressure &
Temperature Relief Valve has been designed
for use on unvented hot water supply systems,
where protection against excess temperature
is required in addition to pressure protection.
Pressure and temperature elements of the
valve operate independently, thereby
providing dual safety protection in the one
valve.
CONSTRUCTION
The Fig 500T is of gunmental construction,
with diaphragm protected working parts and
resilient viton seating. All wetted parts are
manufactured from dezincification resistant
materials, approved by the Water Regulations
Advisory Scheme for use on potable water.
Inlet and outlet connections are of equal size
and threaded to BS 21, with the inlet
connection male and the outlet female. For
other specific technical requirements consult
Nabic technical department.

DOC: TD4/04/02
The discharge capacity of a safety valve must be equal to or greater than the output of the boiler or system it is protecting.
Two methods of sizing are employed for combined pressure & temperature relief valves; one, based on the pressure element of the valve, the other, based on the temperature element.
To ensure that the correct method is used, reference should be make to the relevent BS specification to the design of theboiler or system. If in doubt, choose the method which produces the lower rating.
To convert to Btu/hr multiply by 3400
The above discharge capacities represent approximately 45% of the relief capability of the value, when steam at a pressureof 1 bar causes the thermostat to open the valve.
To convert to Btu/hr multiply by 3400
The above discharge capacities have been calculated in accordance with BS 6759:Part 1, using a derated coefficientof discharge (Kdr) of 0.479. They represent the steam relief capability of the pressure element
of the valve at 10% overpressure.

Description A compact range of Anti-Vacuum Valves for use with hot water heaters to prevent a vacuum forming in installations where
there is the potential for the draw off rate to exceed the rate of flow to the inlet; this can occur in properties with multiple
outlets below the base of the hot water heater. The valves contain a check cartridge which, under normal conditions, is held
closed by the system pressure, but when a vacuum condition arises the suction will cause the check cartridge to open and air
to flow through, equalising the pressure within the hot water heater.
