Wheels Introduction

Stocks are the largest UK manufacturer of specialist wheels for agricultural tractors, including Stocks Duals and HD Flange Rowcrops – both unique to Stocks. We also manufacture most other types and designs of wheels for high speed agricultural vehicles, combines, telehandlers, loaders, self propelled and trailed sprayers, forage harvesters, compact and amenity tractors, forestry machines, trailed implements, etc, etc. Stocks wheels are specified as Original Equipment by several manufacturers and are used extensively by farmers in the UK and abroad.

These include: Dual Wheels - Standard dual wheels, straddle row duals, step up and step down duals, row crop duals, and bolt on adaptors to convert original wheels and row crop wheels for use as duals. Triple Wheels For the ultimate in flotation and traction. Row Crop wheels with adjustable or fixed centre discs. Standard Tractor Wheels with adjustable or fixed centre discs. Fixed Centre Wheels with formed disc or flat plate centres. Reinforced Centre Discs for all wheels. Reinforced Wheels for silage, forestry and construction machines. Wheels for High HP High Volume Flotation tyres Wheels for Compact Tractors and Turf tyres All Colour Matched if required. Tyres - Fitted with your choice of tyre if required.

We build all our wheels in our Wisbech factory with care and attention to the quality and finish, and to comply with E.T.R.T.O. (European Tyre and Rim Technical Organisation) standards. Stocks Dual Wheels

Increased strength. Our standard range of Stocks Duals are the strongest dual wheel available and feature new heavy duty clamps, hooks, eyenuts and eyebolts.

To stay ahead of increases in tractor power, all components are upgraded and made from heat treated high tensile drop forged steel.

The WheelHigh quality rims up to 7mm thick have a heavy flat power rail rolled from 50 x 12mm steel continuously machine welded into them using a special process to provide the anchor for the clamps and to reinforce the rim.

Spacer BandsSpacer bands up to 6mm thick are rolled with a double rib for additional strength and a precise concentric fit into the tapered bead section of the tractor wheel.The ribbed band ensures that the duals fit correctly and always run true, and are easy to remove without becoming wedged, and do not loosen when driving backwards.


FittingThere is no need to rotate the dual for alignment with the tractor wheel. Wherever the eyenuts are attached to the tractor wheel, simply fit a hook to the eye nut and an over-centre clamp to the dual wheel power rail, and tension with the handle supplied. Detailed Fitting Instructions are supplied with each pair.

EyenutsEyenuts are attached to wheel weight holes or rim bolts – a full range of different eyenuts are available to suit all tractors and wheel types.

Over Centre ClampsA new design of clamp means easy fitting to fixed centre wheels - simply attach eyenuts to existing wheel weight holes. A unique removable spacer allows the clamps to work correctly either in this position, or attached to adjustable wheel rim bolts.

SafetyThe clamps simply attach to the power rail which is positioned to the outside of the dual rim rather than on the spacer band – it is much easier and safer to fit and tension the clamps in this position – you do not have to bend over and reach deep inside the wheel to make adjustments.

Once the clamps are correctly tensioned, lock them in position with the supplied “ R clips “ to prevent accidental release.

ChoiceIt is really easy – to make life simple there is only one model of dual for each tyre size, and the number of clamps and other variables are allowed for in the design. So just tell us the tyre size, make and model of tractor, and we will supply you with the appropriate dual wheel.

To calculate overall tractor width when using stocks dualsThis should be within + or -25mm (1”) using equal size duals

1. Deduct 50mm (2 “) from the overall spacer band width (C) to establish the effective band width. (E) The band fits into the tractor and the dual rim by approximately 25mm each side (D).2. Add effective band width (E) to the dual rim width (B), x 2 for both sides.3. Add 1 x tractor rim width (A) 4. Add tractor wheel track setting (F). This gives the overall width to the outside of the dual rims.5. Add 10% to one dual tyre section width. Subtract one dual rim width from this figure. Add this remaining amount to overall rim width. This gives the overall width to the outside of the dual tyres at the base with typical deflection under load.

EXAMPLE: Tyres are 650/65 R38. (Tractor and dual) Rims are 20 x 38. (Tractor and dual.) Track setting is 72” Dual spacer bands are 12”

Clamp RecommendationsGenerally the number of clamps supplied are sufficient for the size of the respective dual wheel. However, the minimum clamp recommendations for dual wheels used in the following applications are increased as follows;

Eyenut Fitting InstructionsAdjustable wheels with bolt in discsThreaded eyenuts are available to suit all rim bolt threads, and a 22mm eyebolt is used to fit JD cast centres. Eyenuts and eyebolts have a hexagonal shank to allow a torque wrench to be used to tighten them. Use Flat Base eyenuts for flat or shallow discs, and Angled Base for deep dished discs. Normally the clamp spacer is removed for adjustable wheels.


Welded wheels with fixed discs and no rim boltsUsing the wheel weight holes. If the wheel has unused wheel weight holes, attach the eyenuts to these holes using suitable high tensile bolts. The over-centre clamps feature a unique spacer that alters the angle of the clamp and hook, and allow it to be used with eyenuts fitted in this position, and lock with a positive and secure over-centre action. This spacer is removed when fitting to adjustable wheels with rim bolts.

Welding or Drilling If there are no weight holes available, then either holes must be drilled through the disc to fit bolts and threaded eyenuts, or use weld-on eyenuts. Use Flat Base for flat or shallow discs and Angled Base for deep discs. Refer to detailed Dual Wheel Fitting Instructions supplied with the wheels for information and dimensions regarding positioning.

Special Dual Wheels

Step Up / Step Down DualsA design enabling two wheels of different diameters to be dualled together when the two tyres have a similar static loaded radius (SLR) - This is the distance from the centre of the axle to the ground, with the tyre deflected under load. Ideally the SLR of both tyres will be the same or the dual tyre slightly less than the vehicle tyre, but it may be acceptable to have the dual tyre slightly larger than the vehicle tyre. Please call our office for advice.

Step Down DualsThis is the most popular method and generally uses a smaller and narrower wheel and tyre as the dual.

For example, a 13.6 R 48 dual tyre alongside a 20.8 R 38 tractor tyre will reduce the overall vehicle width to match an implement or make roadwork easier, or a 20.8 R 42 dual tyre alongside a 710/70 R 38 tractor tyre offers less expensive dualling than using two 710 tyres.

Combine Duals These are particularly suited to this method - most large combines are fitted with a 32” diameter tyre of various widths and profiles but most of these have a very similar SLR. A standard 20.8 R38 tractor tyre will work as a dual alongside most of these 32” combine tyres and provide vey useful flotation and traction at very modest cost, and without putting massive strain on the combine axle and hubs.

Step Up DualsIf the tractor lives on relatively narrow larger diameter wheels and tyres, a smaller diameter wheel with a wider tyre of a matching SLR can be fitted as the dual. Care must be taken that the vehicle wheel is strong enough to support the extra leverage with the dual fitted.

The WheelWe take a rim of one diameter and fit it with a spacer band of a different diameter to enable the dual wheel to fit to the different size vehicle wheel. A heavy flange fully machine welded between the rim and the spacer band takes up the difference in diameters and provides strength and reinforcement.

All the advantages of our Standard Duals apply toStepped Duals. Standard clamps, hooks and eyenuts and ribbed spacer bands are used throughout.

Straddle Row DualsExtra wide spacer bands can be specified to allow the use of dual wheels for inter-row work. These are custom built to the required row spacing and can be either standard tractor sizes or rowcrop sizes. Note: The centre discs of the tractor wheels may need to be reinforced to withstand the additional loading due to the extra width and consequent leverage.This is more relevant when using rowcrop wheels due to the larger diameter discs (more leverage) and higher tyre pressures (harder ride).

Triple WheelsAll our standard Stocks Duals can also be used as triple wheels. Simply use the same size again, coupled onto the tractor wheel using clamp assemblies with extra long hooks. Some tractors are better suited than others for triple installations, for example, those using bar type axles.

Bolt-On Small Diameter DualsFor very small diameter wheels not able to utilise our standard clamping arrangement we offer Bolt-On duals, using conventional spacer bands to locate them. Eyenuts are attached to the tractor wheel as normal, and standard hooks are placed through a lugs or a flange ( depending on the wheel size) welded to the dual wheel and tensioned using a nut and spanner. Once attached these duals are as strong as our standard clamp type dual wheels.

Special Dual Wheels


Bolt-In Spacer Band DualsAn adaptor to allow our standard adjustable row crop wheels to be used as a single row crop or as a dual wheel alongside another rowcrop or standard tractor wheel. With the bolt in spacer bands removed, the row crop wheel reverts back to single use.

Bolt-In Power Rail DualsDesigned to fit some original tractor wheels of a rim and flange design, the bolt in power rails connect these wheels in exactly the same way as above. (supplied with spacer bands)

Stocks Row Crop Wheels

We offer two base designs of row crop wheel – bolted adjustable centre disc or welded fixed centre disc. Both use high quality rims and heavy duty centre discs formed from special steels. Centre bores, stud holes and nut seats are precision CNC machined to ensure a perfect fit to the tractor hub. Rotational welding machines ensure perfect welds, and a high quality 2 pack colour matched paint finish completes the wheel.

Adjustable Centre Row Crop WheelsAdjustable centre wheels offer a range of different track settings to fit a variety of row or bed widths, and may be fitted with alternative discs to suit different tractors and axle details.

The Heavy Duty Flange Rowcrop is unique to Stocks, and is an extremely tough, good looking wheel suitable for 50 kph tractors. Rowcrop wheels are often subject to maximum loading, high road speeds and a hard ride due to higher tyre pressures. Stocks HDF wheels are designed to withstand the high loads imposed by large high speed tractors using front and rear mounted implements, and are manufactured to strict tolerances to ensure true running.

They feature a heavy 15mm thick steel flange, continuously machine welded on both sides into the rim for reinforcement, and to evenly distribute the load around the rim. Heavy, high quality, formed discs are bolted to the flange with 10.9 grade M16 high tensile, captive bolts and nuts. Wheels up to 36” diameter use 8 bolts per wheel, and wheels from 38” to 54” diameter use 12 bolts. Spacers are supplied as standard to offer more track settings if fitted between the disc and the flange. HDF Rowcrops are available in all sizes up to 54” diameter.


Fixed Centre Row Crop WheelsFixed centre wheels are lower maintenance with no rim bolts to check and generally offer higher strength than an adjustable centre wheel.

They are available in two designs:

FORMED DISC WHEELSAre the stronger of the two (size for size) and generally use an 11 - 15mm thick disc which is a press fit into the rim and then fully machine welded around the flange of the disc. Discs with different offsets are used to achieve the reqiuired track setting.

FLAT PLATE WHEELSMay be used in place of a formed disc to achive a specific track setting or for very arduous applications. Depending on the application, most plate thickness will be 12, 15, 20 or 25mm, fully machine welded on both sides into the rim.

HIGH SPEED WHEELSVehicles which travel at speeds in excess of 25MPH (40KPH) usually use fixed centre wheels. High speed vehicles using row crop wheels or non-standard tyres should adhere to the maximum speed rating for the tyre fitted. Excess speed is potentially dangerous and may cause wheel or tyre failure.

Standard Tractor Wheels

We offer two base designs of standard tractor wheel – bolted adjustable centre disc or welded fixed centre disc. Both use high quality rims and heavy duty centre discs formed from special steels and will be the heaviest available – rims up to 8mm thick and discs up to 15mm thick. Centre bores, stud holes and nut seats are precision CNC machined to ensure a perfect fit to the tractor hub. Rotational welding machines ensure perfect welds, and a high quality 2 pack colour matched paint finish completes the wheel.

Adjustable Centre WheelsAdjustable centre wheels offer a range of different track settings to fit a variety of row or bed widths, and may be fitted with alternative discs to suit different tractors and axle details. Our preferred design is to use a heavy 15mm thick steel flange continuously machine welded on both sides into the rim, to give reinforcement and eliminate point loads. We may use flanges of different profiles and thickness. Wheels are available complete with centre discs bolted in, or rims only, or centre discs only.


Fixed Centre WheelsFixed centre wheels are lower maintenance with no rim bolts to check and generally offer a higher strength wheel than a wheel with adjustable centre discs.

They are available in two designs: formed disc or flat plate.

Formed disc wheels are the stronger of the two (size for size) and generally use a 12 - 15mm thick disc, fully machine welded into the rim. Discs with different offsets are used to achieve the required track setting.

Flat plate wheels may be used in place of a formed disc to achive a specific track setting or for ultra heavy applications up to 50mm thick. Depending on the application,

most plate thickness will be 12, 15, 20, 25 mm, fully machine welded on both sides into the rim.

High Speed WheelsVehicles which travel at speeds in excess of 25MPH (40KPH) usually use fixed centre wheels. Wide Wheels

We offer wheels of any width to take wide tyres.Traditionally used for flotation tyres and top work such as drilling, rolling and fertiliser spreading, but now with tyre technology improving rapidly, wide section tyres are becoming far more commonplace for all aspects of primary cultivation and planting, on very high horsepower tractors, and the wheels need to be strong enough to cope with the power and torque. Very wide wheels normally have fixed centres, but if they are required to fit different tractors, consider a bolt-in hub adaptor for more versatility. For agricultural tyres the rim is normally a one piece rim - however some tyres require a 3 or 5 piece lock ring rim to mount the tyre - we can produce this design also - please enquire.

We offer wheels to fit loaders of all types used in agricultural, construction and forestry applications.These are fixed centre wheels, typically with 15-25mm thick centre discs, and are built to cope with extreme loads that large loaders and shovels can exert with large grabs, buckets and rakes. These wheels are available with reinforced rim edges (often specified for forestry or silage clamp use) to just the outside edge, or both inner and outer rim edges, and a variety of valve guards - please enquire.

Bolt-in Hub Adaptors WheelsUsually applicable to fixed centre wheels - If the same wheel is to be used on different tractors with different hubs (8/10/12 stud) - we offer bolt-in hub adaptors to allow wheels to be utilised better on many different vehicles. It is also possible to have bolt-in adaptors to adjust the track setting from one tractor to another when the axles are different lengths. Many options are available - please enquire.



Special Build Wheels

From our vast stock of rims and centres we can usually build a wheel quickly and cost effectively and non-standard specifications can usually be catered for.

Reinforced Rims and Centre Discs

Rim edges can be reinforced with continuously double welded solid steel bar for forestry or silage clamp work. Valve guards of different designs can be specified. Centre discs of all types can be reinforced around the hub area if required.

SpacersWheel and axle spacers can be manufactured for specific track settings or to straddle beds or for controlled traffic farming. Discs can be modified to give

increased or decreased track settings from standard, and it is recommended that we reinforce them to cope with the extra stress of extreme track settings - please enquire.

General Information

DISCSDiscs are available in different thicknesses and profiles. They may have different shapes from flat plate to deep dished, with a range of offsets and be of a different thickness. The disc selection will depend on the size of rim specified, welded fixed or bolted adjustable design, required track setting and strength.

ADJUSTABLE CENTREDiscs are bolted into rims to produce an adjustable wheel to be assembled in different permutations to offer different track settings.

FIXED CENTREDiscs are welded into rims to produce a fixed centre wheel.

HUB DETAILThis is all the information required to produce a disc to fit a hub.

WHEELSThe wheel is generally made of two components – the rim and the disc. Rim size and type. Rims are available in a huge range of designs and sizes. It is important that the correct size and design of rim is used for the tyre selected, and the vehicle and its operation.


CENTRE BOREThis is hole in the middle of the disc that locates the disc concentrically on the hub.

PCD OF HUB STUDSPCD = Pitch Circle Diameter. This is the diameter of a circle drawn through the centre of the hub studs.

DISC OFFSETThis is the relative position of the mounting flange of the hub to the centreline of the rim, and will determine the position of the disc within the rim.

Zero Offset = the hub flange in line with the rim centreline.Positive Offset = the hub flange outside the rim centreline.Negative Offset = the hub flange inside the rim centreline.

TRACK SETTINGThis is the distance between the centreline of each wheel.

HUB FLANGE TO FLANGEThis is the distance between the mounting faces of the hub flanges on the axle.

BEAD SEATSThis is the area of the rim on which the tyre bead is seated. Generally in agricultural rims these seats will be tapered at a 5 degree angle – usually those with a diameter in whole numbers such as 30”, 38”, 42”.However some rims may use a 15 degree angle – usually those with a diameter ending in 0.5” ( 22.5”, 26.5”, 30.5”)

HUMP RIMSSome bead seats are a hump rim design which has a raised profile to ensure better and more reliable seating of tubeless tyres especially at low inflation pressures.

KNURLED SEATSMost bead seats of all types will be knurled – these grooves grip the tyre beads better to help prevent tyre slippage on the rims.

Conditions of Sale

The following General Conditions of Sale shall apply to all contracts for the Sale of the Company’s goods and shall prevail over any terms and conditions inconsistent with them whether appearing on the order placed with the company or otherwise.

Acceptance A quotation does not constitute an offer and may be withdrawn at any time prior to confirmation of an order by the company. Prices quoted are based on present cost of materials and labour and are subject to adjustment to cover any variations which might take place prior to the date of dispatch. All quotations are made exclusive of Value Added Tax which will be charged extra at the current rate. Any quotation is also subject to the goods referred to being available for execution of the order. No clerical errors or omissions in quotations or acceptances of orders shall annul the sale, but shall be subject to subsequent correction by the Company and no compensation shall be allowed to the purchaser in respect thereof.

Illustrations The company will not be bound to sell goods that correspond with illustrations, leaflets, advertisements and drawings or other matter issued by or on its behalf. The Company’s designs are necessarily subject to alterations, and the purchaser shall purchase upon the understanding that such alterations may be made if the Company deems such alterations to be necessary.

Weights and Measurements All weights, measurements and horse-powers, etc., given in estimates, illustrations, leaflets, advertisements or drawings or other matter issued by or on behalf of the Company are believed to be correct but are not guaranteed and shall not be binding on the Company insofar as it fair and reasonable to vary such estimates, illustrations, leaflets, advertisements, drawings or other matter issued by or on behalf of the Company.

Delivery The time given for delivery is an estimate only. It is is given in good faith but not guaranteed and the company will not be bound by it. The Company shall not be liable for the consequence of any delay in delivery. All deliveries will be ex-works and unpacked unless otherwise stated. Where goods are carried and delivered by the Company or any other carrier, the care, carriage and unloading thereof whether by the Company’s employees or otherwise shall in all respects be at the purchaser’s cost and risk unless special arrangements have been made to the contrary in writing, and no compensation or damages will be paid by the Company, for loss, damage, delay, detention or mis-delivery whether caused by the act or the default of the Company or its employees or by accident or otherwise. The purchaser must notify the carrier and the Company in writing within 3 days of any damage to goods caused in transit or any irregularity in the carriage or delivery of the goods.

In cases of non-delivery the carriers and the Company must be advised in writing within 14 days of the date of despatch, which is indicated by the date of the Company’s relevant Advice Note and Invoice. In the prosecution of any claims against the carriers in respect of damage, shortage or non-delivery, the Company shall be the agent of the purchaser and the purchaser shall indemnify the Company against all loss and expenses occasioned thereby. The Company advises that all goods packed in cases or cartons be opened and inspected for damage immediately.

Payment Unless otherwise agreed in writing payment (as to which time shall be of the essence) is due at the end of the month, following the month in which the Company’s invoice is dated and (without prejudice to the Company’s other rights and remedies) any sum not paid when it is due shall thereafter carry interest as well after as before any judgement until date of payment in full at the rate of three percent annum above the base lending rate of Lloyd’s bank PLC for the time being. I f any payment is not made on the due date the Company reserves the right to withdraw credit terms. The purchaser shall not be entitled, whether by reason of any claim against the Company or for any other reason whatsoever, under any circumstances to defer payment of any monies payable to the Company as and when such monies become due and payable.

Cancellations No orders given to the the Company can be cancelled without the Company’s consent in writing having been obtained and it shall be an implied condition of such cancellation that the purchaser shall indemnify the Company against all loss and expenses occasioned thereby.

Defects (a) The company warrants that where it is satisfied after inspection of goods supplied by it that material or workmanship of the Company is defective or that the goods differ materially from their description it shall either (at its discretion) replace or repair the goods provided that: (i) the purchaser gives written notice to the Company of any claim within the warranty period relevant to the goods in question, and (ii) the goods are returned to the company at the purchaser’s expense, and (iii) written notice of any defect or material


difference in the goods from their description is given within six weeks of the date of such defect arising or such material difference being discovered. The warranty periods applicable to particular goods are as laid down from time to time in the Company’s warranty circulars or as otherwise notified to the purchaser. All warranty periods commence with the date of the dispatch of the goods. (b) The aforementioned warranty in (a) above does not apply to defects in the Company’s goods or damage to the Company’s goods caused by: (i) the misuse, operation beyond the limits of rated capacity, or neglect or default in the use of application of the goods (other than by the company), or (ii) fair wear or tear, or (iii) the use of spares or spare parts not supplied by the company, except to the extent that the Company has recommended the use of such spares or spare parts, or (iv) faulty workmanship or negligence on the part of any person (other than the Company), or (v) any accident misuse or neglect attributable to any person, firm or corporation (other than the Company). (c) Except as mentioned in (a) above no condition warranty collateral warranty or representation as to the goods or their quality, design, specification, performance or fitness for a particular purpose is given by the Company or shall be implied into the contract for the sale of the goods by law and the Company shall not be liable whether in contract, tort or otherwise for any loss, damage, expense or injury (except personal injury or death) whether to person or property howsoever caused and whether direct or consequential suffered by the purchaser, its employees, agents or any other third party arising out of the contract for the sale of the goods or the goods supplied.

Returns The return of goods supplied against firm order will not be accepted. In certain special cases where a genuine error in ordering has occurred and replacements are required, the original goods may be accepted back after prior permission in writing. Any such goods accepted back will be the subject of a handling charge to cover outward carriage and restocking. No representative of the company has authority to change these conditions of sale in any way whatsoever and no attempt to repair, or promise to repair or improve the Company’s goods by any Company representative shall change or extend these conditions of sale in any way whatsoever.

Reservations of Title (a) Until such time as full payment is received by the Company for all goods supplied by the Company to the purchaser and the purchaser has paid in full any other monies owing to the Company all goods shall remain the property of the Company and the purchaser shall hold the goods as bailee for the Company and shall store the goods in such a way that it is clear that they are the property of the Company. The purchaser’s right to possession of the goods shall cease if he (not being a company) commits an available act of bankruptcy or, if being a company, the purchaser has a Receiver appointed over any of its assets or enters into liquidation (compulsory or voluntary) and the Company may at that time (without prejudice to its other rights and remedies) terminate the purchaser’s right to sell the goods and recover or recall all or any of its goods in the purchaser’s possession or under the purchaser’s control and the Company its employees or agents is hereby irrevocably authorised to enter upon the purchaser’s premises to recover the goods. (b) The purchaser shall have the right to sell the goods in the ordinary course of business and shall hold any proceeds of sale in respect of goods (which shall be kept in a separate account) and any rights arising from any sale thereof as trustee for the Company.

Termination/Suspension Without prejudice to its other rights and remedies the Company shall be entitled to suspend wholly or partially the supply of the goods in the event of shortage of materials or labour, labour disputes or any matter of force majeure or beyond the control of the Company or if the purchaser shall be indebted to the Company on any other account or be insolvent or go into liquidation or have a Receiver appointed over any of its assets (if a Company) or (if an individual) commit an act of bankruptcy.
