President’s Message Hi everyone! Well, Summer is just about here, but it sure doesn't feel like it! The weather has been very nice to us so far . However, I know the heat is coming . So June and July are pretty uneventful . We have the Huntington Beach Concours on Sunday June 3rd, and the Hot Rod show on the 2nd . After that we have only the BoG and GM Meetings . Our next event in the future is going to be SteakBake on August 18 . Info regarding that is on pages 6 & 7 . So save the date and come out for good food and great friends . Richard and I just got back from a 12 day cruise to Alaska . It was round trip from LA, so that meant no airplane rides! Yeah! Mom and Dad, Phil and Merry Glumm were also on the cruise . We all had a great time and I know that I wish I was still on the ship!!!!! Alaska is probably one of the most beautiful States in the Union . It was cold, but beautiful . Our first stop was Vancouver Canada. I have never been there before (except to get on a plane!) . Mom & Dad, Richard and I went for a walk to Gastown . We walked past the Steam Clock which was really cool . Then we went to the Lion's Pub to sit and have a cold beer . I would defiantly go back. Then we were off to Juneau Alaska . Phil, Merry, Richard and I went on a whale watching tour, where we saw a lot of whale tails! Richard was the only one of us that got to see a Whale breech . He said it was fantastic! On our way back Richard and I got off the bus early and went to the Red Dog Saloon for lunch . Next we went to Skagway, the last time we were there, it was 75° . Shorts weather! This time around it was really cold, probably about 40°, but was totally worth the visit . We ate lunch in the Red Onion Saloon (I see a trend here!), which was one the finest bordellos in Skagway. After Skagway, we went to Glacier Bay . Wow, was that fantastic . We actually saw and heard calving . It was amazing . Our last stop was Ketchikan . Last time we were there it was raining horizontally! Literally!! This time around it was cold and misty so we were able to go further into town . There are a lot of jewelry stores in Alaska!! LOL . There was a rain gauge there that said that year to date was 186 inches of rain . I think we need to build a new Alaskan Pipeline! This time for the transport of water!!!!!! Then we were off for 3 days at sea . This is always nice . Time to relax and just enjoy the ocean . One day the water was like glass, no ripples at all . It was beautiful . I was out on our balcony and I saw some small ripples in the water . Then there were more ripples . It was a pod of Dolphins playing and skipping across the water . It was so amazing! So our trip was 12 days of total relaxation and a lot of fun . I was happy to be home and see the kitties, and my own bed . But, I do miss being on the ship!

Museum Run 2018 Results
Well another Museum Run is in the books, and everyone seemed to have a good time. We hadn’t been to the Automobile Driving Museum for about ten years, so for many of us, it seemed brand new. There are many beautiful automobiles and in this museum. What makes it somewhat unique is that you can touch and sit in them. This can give you an idea of how big some of them are, and how hard it would have been to drive them back in the days. Posted below are the results, and trophies will be presented at the June meeting.
Driver/Navigator Leg 1 Leg 2 Total Error

"It Got Ate" – a flaggers report on the SVRA 2018 Southern California Historic Sports Car Festival held
at Auto Club Speedway April 27th through 29th By Karen Lewis
That could, possibly, be the strangest title for a race report you’ve seen in a while . Stay tuned for the explanation . SVRA held their annual Sports Car Festival at Auto Club Speedway the weekend of the 27th of April . This was not an LBMG Club event, but there’s rarely a VARA or SVRA Race in Southern California without some participation by club members . This event featured club members Jim Elsten in control, Mervyn Radley in Pit Out, Jim Tulk in turn 3, Jimmy Dingwall in turn 10, Karen Lewis and Bobby Webster in turn 12 and Tom Jones in the starter’s stand . Bob Lewis drove the pace car . Rumor had it Bonnie Elsten was helping out in Timing and Scoring . Tom Jones gathered the team together with notable SCCA flaggers and some out of town guests, as well. We had flaggers from Wisconsin, Texas, Arizona, Nevada and Oregon. It was a mixture of experience and personalities . The mixture of people is the reason for the report. The pool of available flaggers keeps dwindling as we get older . Flagging races is not just about standing on corners . It’s about the camaraderie among the members of the team . When you reach out to people from around the area, and the country, there will be differences in the way things are done . It’s more interesting to accept those differences than try and mold everyone into one box. (Sounds like a lesson for a lot of things .) The teams’ focus was to make sure the drivers were safe . We accomplished that with different styles and made it a great weekend . We need to reach out to other friends and family members to come out and have some racing fun at flagging events. There will be different people, styles and ways to say and do things . There will be some accents from around the country and it will be a good time . Get someone to try flagging and see if they don’t get hooked! SVRA had the Trans Am Series on hand for the weekend . The wide variety of cars made for a fun and entertaining event . The weather even cooperated for a spring race in Southern California . I hope everyone had as much fun as I did . The story title is from the pizza party after the race day on Saturday . There were some alcoholic beverages consumed and a flagger came a bit late for pizza. When he asked where the pizza was, one of our flaggers from Texas advised “it got ate”. That’s not something you hear around southern California every day . It cracked us all up and made for more interesting conversations………
Come on out and join in the fun. The next event is September 15 & 16 at Willow Springs!
