Amen. Pope Francis Our own financial position is of course not too healthy at the moment, and we encourage all family members to support the Parish and Parish Priest during this time. There are suggestions for how to achieve this on the website. In the meantime please do not involve the parish in any spending without consulting the Parish Office. MASS INTENTIONS When a priest celebrates Mass each day, he offers each celebration of the Mass for a particular person’s intention. By doing so he applies special graces from God upon that person or intention. A Mass intention is a very beautiful offering for the living or the dead. PARISH PRAYER LIST

Please pray for Philip Baker, Mutt Burnford, Geoff Cooper, Dorothy Diplock, Frank Dougherty, Alison Fox, Sybil Gasche, Ian Ruddlesden, Pauline Smith and Jennie Wren Scott.

The Lord is at our side.

Faced with all the evil in the world, we might be afraid did we not have Jesus as a mighty hero at our side; the source of divine grace.

At last the church is open for private prayer and our thanks are due to all those who have helped to make this possible. I know the opening times are very limited and I personally cannot wait for time when we can open from dawn to dusk. Jesus and isolation just obviously do not go together - see you in Church.

Dropping into churches for prayer, to light a candle, to find peace, and above all to be with the Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, is just one of those Catholic things, a bit like Mass on Sundays, fish on Fridays, carrying a Rosary, praying the Angelus = etc, etc, etc, living out the moral teaching of the Church day by day. Church Opening Times

We need very much to remember in our prayers all those who have died as a result of Covid 19, along with those who are still very unwell as a result of infection. Not forgetting all those who have lost their jobs and the many more who are likely to follow them.

O Mary, you shine continuously on our journey as a sign of salvation and hope. We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick. OUR NEW VENTURE

The video about the Mass that we have been watching, and talking about in the Zoom meeting on Thursdays at 7.30pm, is really first rate. It is presented in such an engaging and precise way that really holds the attention and starts the enhancing of our whole Catholic way of life, living and understanding.

The Archbishop of Brisbane really is sharing a great gift with us. The link to the next instalment will be up on WhatsApp, our Website and Facebook page this coming Monday.

Do watch it and join in with the Thursday Zoom meeting.

Children’s Liturgy

Every Saturday evening a video is posted at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdJNyn5xOrOB5634uplhcQg with a short Children's Liturgy for you to use in your homes.

This is really a first rate tool that we can use in the home education of our children. It is so easy to remember their academic work which needs to go hand in hand with their faith journey.

Fr. Alan will follow this pattern of prayer each day: 8.30am The Office of Readings 9.00am The Angelus followed by Morning Prayer 9.30am Mass followed by Adoration on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, by the Rosary on Wednesday 12 noon The Angelus followed by the Rosary 6pm The Angelus followed by Evening Prayer

Please join him spiritually at some of these times to give glory to God and to offer up the World.

Hymn for Sunday’s Mass

O Sacred Heart, our home lies deep in thee; on earth thou art an exile’s rest, in heav’n the glory of the blest, O Sacred Heart.

O Sacred Heart, thou fount of contrite tears; where’er those living waters flow, new life to sinners they bestow, O Sacred Heart.

O Sacred Heart, our trust is all in thee, For though earth’s night be dark and drear, thou breathest rest where thou art near, O Sacred Heart.

O Sacred Heart, when shades of death shall fall, receive us ‘neath thy gentle care, and save us from the tempter’s snare, O Sacred Heart.

O Sacred Heart, lead exiled children home, where we may ever rest near thee, in peace and joy eternally, O Sacred Heart.

Do make sure you are a part of the

1 Zoom Rosary on Wednesdays at 10am

2 Zoom Discussion Group on Thursday from 7.30pm to 8pm.

Both these group are so very important to keep the prayer of the Church and of individuals alive. This is a time when we need to gather ourselves, family and friends into the power of prayer.

3 Zoom Cobra Meeting on Saturdays at 10.30am for forty minutes of mostly techie and financial stuff.

4 Finally we have the streamed Mass on Sundays at 10.30am which we all need to be taking part in.

They are all events you can share with family and friends, making sure they have the necessary links to join us.

Do join the Parish WhatsApp Group. The chatter is fine, but it always includes daily Morning and Night Prayer. This is taken from the rich liturgical prayer life of the Church. Pope Francis, all bishops, priests deacons, monks, nuns and countless faithful lay people join in this throughout the world... it is wonderful to be able to play our part in this.

For a variety of reasons quite a number of people have left our church cleaning team.

We urgently need some new volunteers for this important work - keeping the House of God looking beautiful. Please contact the Parish Office with offers of help.

To be a Catholic6

To understand that life is sacred from the moment of conception to drawing our last natural breath.

To live by the moral teaching of the Church in our daily lives. Also to understand that if the teaching of the church does not suit us at a moment of time it does not invalidate the truth of the teaching.

To live by the commandment to love God and our neighbour as our self.

To go the second mile, to turn the other cheek, to love our enemies and do good to those who persecute you.

To start the week with the Sunday Mass, to be fed by Word and Sacrament in the company of the angels and saints along with our brothers and sisters in the church family.

THE MASS

The Opening Prayer

The Opening Prayers of the Missal are incredibly rich and dense little texts. They’re a bit like a telegram, they’re highly concentrated in their language but, if you unpack them, they really do contain everything that the Church believes and teaches.

The priest begins by saying, ‘Let us pray.’ So he summons the whole community to enter into prayer. Then there follows a moment of silence. Everyone is praying in their hearts and in that silence, having been drawn into the presence of God. And then out of the silence the priest gathers up the prayer of everyone in the community. That’s why the traditional name for the Opening Prayer was ‘the Collect’.

The opening prayer looks back to the kind of prayer that you would have heard in the state religion of Ancient Rome. It’s a structure which early Christianity inherited and then baptised it. This is what so often happens in the liturgy.

These prayers are short but they are deep and they are rich. They gather up the prayer of the entire Church in every time and in every place as well as the prayer of this particular community of prayer but also joining with the Church in Heaven because the prayer of the Mass at any point is the prayer of the Church in Heaven and on Earth.

FROM MAINTENANCE TO MISSION

As Members of our Church Family we can be either Curators or Curates.

The Curator is the custodian of a collection of important things of the past that very much need to be preserved. In our case that would also include preserving the building that houses the collection as a museum.

The Curate on the other hand has the care of souls in the parish. The church family shares in this work that is both light and salt for its members and for the world. a caring work that values the past, but lives in today and looks forward in hope to the future. The same yesterday, today and for ever. The building itself becoming the gateway to the Kingdom of God, the opening up of the Holy of Holies to all who come.

We need to move from Maintenance to Mission, from Curator to Curate.

I believe6

I believe the Holy Catholic Church to be the backbone of my Faith.

I believe life is a wonderful gift from God our Father.

The Church provides me with essential support for my spiritual life, shielding me from the distractions of the World.

The Catholic Mother Church8 it always has its doors open for me like the house of the Father to his prodigal son.

INTRODUCTION

The Government now encourages us to live in safe bubbles, whether that be a family bubble, a school bubble, or a work bubble. This does not work too well for the Church, which by its very nature is open to all. We are all family brothers and sisters with a common heavenly Father. We are all made in the image and likeness of God, and all redeemed by the loving death and resurrection of Jesus. We can all share in the one bread and one cup of the Eucharist and all are invited to “come and see”.

ENTRANCE ANTIPHONThe Lord is the strength of his people,a saving refuge for the one he has anointed.Save your people, Lord, and bless your heritage, and govern them for ever.

COLLECTGrant, O Lord, that we may always revere and love your holy name, for you never deprive of your guidancethose you set firm on the foundation of your love.Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.

Amen.FIRST READING Jeremiah 20:10-13A reading from the prophet Jeremiah.Jeremiah said:

I hear so many disparaging me,“ ‘Terror from every side!’Denounce him! Let us denounce him!”All those who used to be my friendswatched for my downfall,“Perhaps he will be seduced into error. Then we will master himand take our revenge!”But the Lord is at my side, a mighty hero;my opponents will stumble, mastered, confounded by their failure;everlasting, unforgettable disgrace will be theirs. But you, Lord of Hosts, you who probe with justice, who scrutinise the loins and heart, let me see the vengeance you will take on them, for I have committed my cause to you.Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord, for he has delivered the soul of the needyfrom the hands of evil men.The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

PSALM Psalm 68RESPONSE: In your great love, answer me, O God.1. It is for you that I suffer taunts, that shame covers my face, that I have become a stranger to my brothers, an alien to my own mother’s sons. I burn with zeal for your house and taunts against you fall on me. R.2. This is my prayer to you, my prayer for your favour. In your great love, answer me, O God, with your help that never fails: Lord, answer, for your love is kind; in your compassion, turn towards me. R.3. The poor when they see it will be glad and God-seeking hearts will revive; for the Lord listens to the needy and does not spurn his servants in their chains. Let the heavens and the earth give him praise, the sea and all its living creatures. R.

SECOND READING Romans 5:12-15A reading from the letter of St Paul to the Romans.Sin entered the world through one man, and through sin death, and thus death has spread through the whole human race because everyone has sinned. Sin existed in the world long before the Law

was given. There was no law and so no one could be accused of the sin of “law-breaking”, yet death reigned over all from Adam to Moses, even though their sin, unlike that of Adam, was not a matter of breaking a law.

Adam prefigured the One to come, but the gift itself considerably outweighed the fall. If it is certain that through one man’s fall so many died, it is even more certain that divine grace, coming through the one man, Jesus Christ, came to so many as an abundant free gift.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATIONAlleluia, alleluia! The Word was made flesh and lived among us; to all who did accept him he gave power to become children of God. Alleluia!

OrAlleluia, alleluia!

The Spirit of truth will be my witness; and you too will be my witnesses.

Alleluia!

GOSPEL Matthew 10:26-33A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew.Jesus instructed the Twelve as follows: “Do not be afraid. For everything that is now covered will be uncovered, and everything now hidden will be made clear. What I say to you in the dark, tell in the daylight; what you hear in whispers, proclaim from the house-tops.

“Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; fear him rather who can destroy both body and soul in hell. Can you not buy two sparrows for a penny? And yet not one falls to the ground without your Father knowing. Why, every hair on your head has been counted. So there is no need to be afraid; you are worth more than hundreds of sparrows.

“So if anyone declares himself for me in the presence of men, I will declare myself for him in the presence of my Father in heaven. But the one who disowns me in the presence of men, I will disown in the presence of my Father in heaven.”

The Gospel of the Lord.Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

PRAYER OVER THE OFFERINGSReceive, O Lord, the sacrifice of conciliation and praiseand grant that, cleansed by its action,we may make offering of a heart pleasing to you.Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

COMMUNION ANTIPHONThe eyes of all look to you, Lord, and you give them their food in due season.

OrI am the Good Shepherd, and I lay down my life for my sheep, says the Lord.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNIONRenewed and nourishedby the Sacred Body and Precious Blood of your Son,we ask of your mercy, O Lord, that what we celebrate with constant devotionmay be our sure pledge of redemption.Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.
