Ad Hoc Network Setup

OverviewFTP Mode allows you to wirelessly transfer images from your EOS DSLR to a WiFi-enabled computer that you have set up as a remote FTP server. The EOS Wireless File Transmitter will function as the FTP client.

This guide will describe how to create an ad hoc network FTP server on a PC running the Premium or Professional versions of Microsoft Windows 7. If you do not have either version installed on your PC you will either need to upgrade or, if you prefer, you can use one of the available third-party FTP server soft-

ware applications. Follow the software provider’s instructions for how to configure the server, login, password, and Windows firewall.

This setup requires you to assign a login name, password and WEP encryption. Please check to be sure you are operating in a secure environment before setup. Do not change the network settings on any computer without the permission of the network administrator. Be sure to write down your original network settings so that you can restore them later when necessary.

1Click Start, then Control Panel, then Network and Internet, then Network and Sharing Center. Below Change your net-working settings, select Set up a new connection or network.

3Read the explanation and instructions regarding ad hoc networks, then click the Next button.

2On the Choose a con-nection option window, select, Set up a wireless ad hoc (computer-to-computer) network, then click the Next button.

5You will see a dialog box in-forming you that Windows is setting up a network with the name you assigned in Step 4. (The name you see here is only an example.)

4Enter the name you want to assign to your ad hoc network in the Network name field. For Security type select WEP. For Security key enter five (5) ASCII characters. If you want to save this network setup for future use, click Save this network. Click the Next button.

6After a few seconds you will see a dialog box informing you that your network is ready to use. You can now move on to creating an FTP server.

1Click Start, then Control Panel, then Programs. On the Programs window click Turn Windows features on or off.

2Expand the option for Internet Information Services (IIS). Select FTP Server and IIS Management Console. Click OK and wait for the installation to complete. This may take a few minutes. When the instal-lation has finished your FTP server will be ready for use.

3Click Control Panel, then System and Security, then Admin-istrative Tools to open Internet Information Services Manager. Under connections, right click on sites and click Add FTP Site as shown in the screenshot.

4Under Connections, right-click on the name of your computer. Select Add FTP Site on the dropdown menu that appears.

5Under Site Information, enter a name for your FTP site, click the ellipsis (...) to select a path to the folder you want to share, then click the Next button.

6Under Binding and SSL Set-tings, select the default IP ad-dress from the dropdown menu. Select No SSL from the list of SSL options, then click the Next button. Enter FTP Server IP address here for reference: _____ . _____. _____ . _____

7Under Authorization and Authentication Informa-tion, choose the settings you prefer. Click Finish to complete your FTP server setup. You now need to set up the WFT.

1Turn on your camera with the WFT attached. Navigate to the first Tool menu and select [WFT Settings].

2Select [Connection wizard].

3Select [FTP trans.], then select [OK].

4Select [Wireless].Select [OK].

5Select [Connect with wizard]. Select [OK].

6Select the name of the wireless network you created during the computer setup. Select [OK].

7Select Key Index [1].Select [OK].

8Select Key format [Enter 5 ASCII characters].Select [OK].

9Enter the 5-character password that you used when you created the network on your com-puter. Press the Menu button on your camera to select [OK].

10Select Network [Manual setting].Select [OK].

11Select IP address set. [Manual setting].Select [OK].

12Enter an IP address for the WFT unit. The first six digits should be “192.168.” Either one of the last two must be different from the ones you assigned to the computer. (Write this number down--you will need it later.)Select [OK].

15On FTP server select [Address setting], then select [OK].

13On Gateway leave the gateway set to [Dis-able]. Select [OK}.

14On DNS address select Disable, then select [OK].

16On Server name enter the IP address you created in Step 6 of the FTP Server setup. (The number you see here is only an exam-ple.) Press the Menu button on your camera to select “OK”.

17The FTP server screen will display the IP ad-dress and port numbering setting. The Port number should be 00021. The IP address should match what you entered in Step 16. If so, select [OK].

18On Passive Mode select [Disable].Select [OK].

19On Proxy server select [Disable].Select [OK].

20On Login method select [Login password].Select [OK].

21On Login name, enter the name of your computer. (To find the name of your computer, click Start button/Control Panel, System and Maintenance, then System.You will find the computer name under the Computer name tab.

22On your camera’s Password screen, enter the password you use to log onto your PC. You must enter a login password for this setup to work.

23For Target folder select [Root folder], then select [OK].

24The camera and WFT will now connect to your computer/FTP server. Select [OK].

25Assign your settings to a Set for later retrieval. You can assign any number from 1 - 4.

1Go to the WFT settings menu.Select [Set up].

Optional Automatic File Transfer Settings

2On the Set up menu enable [Automatic transfer]. Press the Menu button on your camera to confirm settings.

3Image files from your camera will automatically be transferred to a “house folder” identified on your computer as folder A. Note that any images you erase from the camera will not be erased from the house folder.

Once the ad hoc network is set up you can turn the camera off and back on again. When you turn it back on it will automatically reconnect.

When you have finished using FTP mode, return to the WFT settings menu to select [Discon-nect.]

How to Disconnect

Once the adhoc network is set up you can turn the camera off and back on again. When you turn it back on it will automatically reconnect.

If you have disconnected the network you must return to the WFT settings menu, re-select [FTP trans.], and repeat the PC setup steps.

How to Reconnect

1. When you set up an ad hoc manual FTP network con-nection, you must disconnect from whatever network setup you previously had. You will then have to re-con-nect your original network setup once you’re through with the FTP connection. Reverse the TCP/IP connec-tion from manual to DHCP (or the original manual IP address), then reselect the network being distributed by the router.

2. The ad hoc network is temporary. When you switch back to your normal configuration the ad hoc network settings on your PC will disappear and must therefore be set up again for re-use.
