What is each person good at doing – writing, talking, organizing? ■ Give each person a job title – producer, reporter, host. ■ Give your radio station and your show a name. 1 Work in pairs. Answer the questions. Then read the Introduction to check your answers. 1 How many people do you need to make a radio show? Who are they? 2 What does a good radio host need to have? 3 What does a radio news reporter do? Introduction To make a radio news show, you need a team of people. The radio producer is responsible for the show. The producer chooses the stories to include, the people to invite, and also writes the scripts. The production assistant helps the producer plan, write, and produce the show. The show’s host needs to have a good voice and be able to speak with or without a script. An announcer gives weather and traffic reports. Finally, reporters record news stories and interview people outside the studio. A: I’m good at acting. I can be the host. B: I can be a good reporter because I like talking to people. C: I’d like to be the producer. A: Let’s call the station Our Radio. C: And how about calling the show School Talk? D: That’s a great idea. Step 2 Choose a main news story ■ What’s happening in your show – a school play, sports day? Which event would be a good news story for the show? Choose one. ■ Decide how to prepare and present the news story. Who can you interview – other people in the group, a teacher? Do you need opinions from other students? A: We could do a story about the school play. B: Why don’t we interview one or two of the actors? C: How about interviewing our teacher? 2 Work in groups.
