HOUSING INVENTION

Potentials of the hill slopes- densifying the city and exploring central and valuable land

- interesting buildings in levels, use and connections

- chance to develop new connections/infrastructure in the city

- chance to create new high quality urban space eg.terraces

Concept- Göteborg is built on very hilly lands and is full of rocky slopes.

- Those rocks have been un-explored. Since until now no fitting solution was found to solve the difficulties within reasonable costs.

- in order to densify the city further, we consider it essential to tap the full potential of those “forgotten lands”

- We want to investigate and design solutions how to establish housing, interesting urban spaces ,city connections and other uses for these hill slopes

Difficulties of the hill slopes- hard conditions for foundations, needsspecialised solutions for each building

- high costs

- destruction of the hills natural shape and recreational green areas

-change of nice public ground into privateground

Public elevators are built as the means of vertical circulation, connecting different levels of spaces in the residential area and the public. Houses are built at different levels and connected to the elevator and public facilities by paths. Facilities like café, supermarket and library are provided.

There are two public carparks ( at the “peak” and the “foot” respectively ), residents can park their cars at any level which is convenient to them.

Place: Hill at Landala

- hill located between Landala and Johanneberg

Current Shape and Use

- left over vegetation and rocks- used for recreation from the neighbourhood

Why this hill:

- this hill is located at a very prominent place, with beautiful views.

- This hill dividing the city and breaking connections within city (there was plans for building a tunnel, showing the demand for a link there)

- There could be an interest for housing, it might pay out the extra costs for the construction

- this place is carrying potentials for a better urban space

Existing Plans / Regulations:

- this hill is considered un-explorable, so there seem to be no further plans off developing this areal

The thin building and a double facade allows a good climate manage-ment and constant venti-lation throught the flats.

We two sides of the build-ing have two different facades.

The north east side with the corridors has a dou-ble glass facade. These corridors with 9 m hight function as a heat chan-nel, taking up the old air from the flat by natural ventilation.

The side faicing south-west is build up by a double skin facade with inlyig changeable shad-ing.

The middle windows can be slided away and the outer skin can be open aswell. The inhabitant can get a fresh airbreeze into the flat.

Therefore we decided to leave the floor open and to be supported by a light and interesting steel structure car-ring a terrace.

The stairs leading to onto the first level are representa-tive, can be used for sitting and are in dialoque with the rock.

The lighting will be designed in the further process. They are essential for establishing a secure square even in nighttime. The building and the stairs carry lot of potential for a interesting light settings.

On the terrace we invite Pressbyran to have a shop for enhancing a constant costumer flow.
