STEAM Ahead: Vol. 2 STEAM Newspaper Club November 2017 What is Red Ribbon Week? Red Ribbon week is a drug free campaign that was established in 1980. Their mission is “to lead and support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth.” This years theme for red Ribbon Week was “Your Future is Key So Stay Drug Free!” Red Ribbon Week is not only in missouri, but it is also all of AMERICA! STEAM’s Red Ribbon themed days: Tuesday-Everyone wear RED Shirts Wednesday-Leave drugs in the past, “throwback day” Thursday-Dress to impress, Picture day Friday- Nerds are cool drugs are not, dress like nerds Monday-Put Drugs to rest, Wear pj’s Tuesday- Don’t get into a hairy situation, Crazy hair day PUT DRUGS TO REST By: CJ Gregory III What is the first thing that comes your mind when I say, SLEEP? What? Pillow or blanket or PAJAMAS!!!! On October 23rd STEAM Academy had a PJ Day. There pajamas, onesies, and even shorts and everyone was so colorful. Most of the students wore pajamas. Surprisingly, most of the teachers wore pajamas too! I interviewed Morgan Baker and this was her response- Q.What did you wear? A. I wore an owl onesie. Q. What do your pajamas tell about you? A. I like vibrant colors, because my pajamas had colors. Q. Do you like the idea of pajama day and why? A. Yes I do, because our uniforms aren’t really comfortable. Q. Do you think we should have pajama day every Monday? A. Yes, because Mondays aren’t the best days of the week. Q. Does wearing pajamas make you sleepy? A. By the way, these photos might make you sleepy. :) 7th Grade Pod Door Decorating Contest By: Ellie Werleman The 7th grade pod focused on an Alice in Wonderland theme. They did this because of the looking through the keyhole. The theme for Red Ribbon Week reminded 7th grade students of a keyhole that Alice looked through. Who did what in the pod? Ms. Sosa΅s advisory did The Queen of Hearts and The Mad Hatter . Mr. Hiebert had Alice for their door. Fantastic art work, 7th grade pod! A: I grew up in Arkansas 6t Grad Po Decoratin The 6th grade pod theme was “The Road to Success.” They had keys with the students names on it, with colleges on the back, roads that led into the classrooms, and locks with sayings that help kids be successful.
