Don’t Be Late!

A few Words of Wisdom Good morning, South Seminole. This is Mr. Fernandez, Dean of Students, with a few words of wisdom.

Listen up! When you sit down to watch your favorite TV show, do you expect the television station to start the show on time? Of course you do.

And when you reach the end of the school day, do you expect the bell to ring on time? Of course you do. If we didn't ring the bell on time, we wouldn't be showing respect for you or for those waiting for you after school. There's an old American proverb that says: Punctuality is the first rung on the ladder of success.

With something to think about, this is Mr. Fernandez. Make it a great day… or not. The choice is yours.

How successful would a movie theater be if it was alwayslate starting the movie? And what if a department store never opened its doors on time?

Would people keep coming back, or would they find somewhere else to do business? Today and every day, start climbing the ladder of success by learning to be a punctual person.

Learning Goal:Students will understandthat being tardy or late not only is discourteous, but can have serious consequences for ourselves and others.

Name some legitimate reasons for being late. Name some excuses that are disrespectful to those waiting. What is the worst excuse you ever heard?

How does it feel to have to rush to be on time? How does it feel to be late? What are some practical things we can do to avoid being late?

Every day, in more ways than we normally stop to consider, we depend on those around us to be punctual. We expect the employees at the television station to air our favorite program on

time. We expect ambulances to come quickly and police officers to be prompt. We expect the school bus to be on time, bells to ring when they are supposed to, and food to be served at lunch break.
