Assembly of R3 modules

We received about 38 hybrids in total ( + 36 more end of last week) only 2 of them failed the electronic ARC tests (58 tested yet)

In total 36 R3 modules were assembled with 2 persons working in parallel this job can be done in about 2 hours including after curing, virtual assembly, mounting on transportation frames, assembly, …(everything)

Via dry assemblies, corrections were estimated (shifts and rotations) (slightly) different for all plate positions this incorporates precision problems with the sensor pick-up tool now we have 1 pick-up tool for all sensor types (R3, R5, R6) !!

DataBase problem for single sensor modules !!

DataBase and Gantry software always expect 2 sensors hence the assembled modules are always ‘NOT VALID’ we correct the DB flags by hand before introducing them … people are working on it

The specifications on the angle of the sensor on the frame are very severe (10mdeg)

The angle between the hybrid and the sensor is important for the bounding, hence it could be that modules outside the limits could be bounded and are therefore valid

Those from the beginning of the production period, residuals much better now

Transport of R3 modules

The first 8 modules are already shipped to Karlsruhe and Hamburg (DHL) 2D bar code labels were not glued on these frames (I have some with me) transportation did arrive in good shape (no damage) Hamburg claimed some damage yesterday on the back of the sensors (to be checked)

The remaining 28 modules will be shipped now 50% to Hamburg 50% to Karlsruhe (we will wait a bit until we have the R5 modules)

Towards R5 module assembly

For the TEC Test Beam we need 3 R5N and 3 R5S modules we will assemble them this week For R5N the software is about to be ready and modules will be glued tomorrow. We have seen that the mask of the sensors is not matching with the reality… This will be checked and updated very soon (in communication with Aachen).

For R5S the software is in development and modules will be glued this week to be able to ship them in time on probably monday

A good precision of these modules cannot be guaranteed, but this is not very important for the TEC Test Beam… corrections to be applied in the future to minimize the residuals (via dry assemblies a la R3)

Some problems with the pin holes for the R5 plates, the pins do not enter the holes completely (Aachen is investigating their plates … Oliver Pooth).

DB was down today : hence no modules produced today !!!…also some residual problem appeared…

Conclusion and outlook for the future

Precision of R3 modules is good Precision of R3 modules is good In total 36 modules are assembled (+ 2 bad hybrids)In total 36 modules are assembled (+ 2 bad hybrids) Production is continuing (another 36 hybrids did arrived)Production is continuing (another 36 hybrids did arrived)
