Abdul Hamood, Ph.D., Microbiology, was recently honored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for his grant, “Characterization of Pseudoverdine, a Novel Virulence-Related Quinolone Moledule.”

Lan Guan, Ph.D., Cell Physiology and Molecular Biophysics, was recently recognized by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for her grant, “Molecular Mechanism for the Cation/Sugar Coupling and Selectivity in Melibiose Permease.”

U.S. News and World Report has ranked the School of Allied Health Sciences MS Speech-Language Pathology program 60th out of 315 SLP programs in the country. The program is ranked No. 3 of 17 Texas programs, behind the University of Texas at Austin and UT Dallas.

SOAHS Speech-Language Pathology students recently achieved a 100 percent !rst-time pass rate on the 2010 state licensure and national certi!cation examination. SLP students have achieved a 100 percent !rst-time pass rate for the last three years.

John D. Wasnick, M.D., MPH, was recently selected as chair for the Department of Anesthesiology. Wasnick has served as associate professor of Clinical Anesthesiology at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He begins at TTUHSC Oct. 1.

James Dickens, a student in the Perry School of Nursing’s DNP program, recently was named a 2010 fellow in the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. This program recognizes nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through clinical practice, research, education or policy.

The TTUHSC School of Nursing recently received a grant from the RWJ Foundation through the New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program. Ten students in the school’s accelerated Second Degree baccalaureate program will each receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2010-2011 academic year.

TTUHSC recently announced a gift from the James A. “Buddy” Davidson Charitable Foundation. The donation will be used to establish an endowed professorship in pediatric pharmacology, the James A. “Buddy” Davidson Charitable Foundation Endowed Professorship in the Pediatric Pharmacology Research and Development Center.

Marjorie Jenkins, M.D., executive director of the LWBIWH was recently nominated to the 2010 Texas Woman’s Hall of Fame.
