Data can be collected and put on multiple kinds of graphs. Common graphs used are the bar

graph, circle graph, and line graph.

Page 4: Statistics is the science of collecting, describing, and interpreting data.

The Bar Graph

Data: 100 randomly-selected tenth-grade students and their letter grade on a test

The Circle Graph

Data: 100 randomly-selected people and their preferred movie genre

The Line Graph

Data: sales revenue of a business, per month

A population is a collection, or set, of individuals, objects, or events whose properties are to be analyzed

A qualitative variable is a variable of the data that describes or categorizes and element of a population

A quantitative, or numerical, variable is a variable that quantifies an element of a population

A population

Possible people to be surveyed

Page 9: Statistics is the science of collecting, describing, and interpreting data.

A quantitative variable A quantity variable consists of numbers or a set of values, such as

surveying a group of 15 blondes, 15 brunettes, and 15 redheads

Page 10: Statistics is the science of collecting, describing, and interpreting data.

A qualitative variable

A qualitative variable can involve only surveying a group of blonde-haired people or a group of brunette-haired people or a group of red-haired people

Population can also be broken down into a sample, finite population, and infinite population.

SampleA sample is a subset of a population

Finite Population

A finite population is a population whose membership can or could be physically listed

Example: a small group of people

Infinite Population

An infinite population is a population whose membership is unlimited.Example: the population of everyone on Earth

These are the simple facts of Statistics.
