Sime Drll~ Resources: ]c)c)4 Nmioflui Directory is a comprehensive guide to State agencies that address drug ahuse concerns. Orgfmized by State, the Directory providus aguncy munes, addresses, and telephone numbers. Also included are listings of Federnl agencies that people frequently ask for information, as well as several quick references to State agencies by area of specialty. The Directory was compiled hy(he Drugs & Crime Data Center & Clearinghouse, which is a nationalresourcu center for drugrdated criml1 information.
Individuals sucking specific Statelevel drug data orten do not know where to turn and may require several referrals hefore the correct office is found. It is hoped that this mreclOl',Y will serve as a road map to the most appropriate source.
Following this introduction is a description of the functions and responsibilities of the types of State agencies listed for each State. The individual State listings that follow m'u organized Idphahetically and give each agency's name, address, and telephone numher. About 15 drug abuse, crimimd justice, lmd policy offices m'e listed for each State. Although most States have at least one of each type of agency, some Stlltes do not. In those cases the category was not includud in thu State listings.
The State listings !u'u followed hy 14 appendixes that list fedendly sponsored drug control offices, national clearinghouses, natiol1ld m;sociations, and natiomd drug ahuse or criminal justice resources. Finally, w; a quick reference, those drug control or statisticld agencies common to each State have been assembled and listed ldphaheticldly by State.
While great care wm; taken in compiling lmd proofreading the agency listings, the Data Center & Clem'inghouse necessarily relied on nationld mailing lists that may contain error~ or may become outdated. Users arc urged t.o report any corrections to the clcm'inghouse on the form provided at the end of this Din'clOry so that they Clm bc retlected in suhsequent editions.
The Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS) of the U.S. Department of Justice manages the Drugs & Crime Data Center & ClelU'inghouse, with pm'thd funding from the Bureau of Justice Assisllmce, to support drug control policy research and development. Since 19H7 the Data Center' & Clem'inghouse has responded to policymakers' needs for the most current data about-
Preface
• illegal drug trafficking • drug-law violators • drug-using offenders in the criminal
justice system • the impact of drugs on criminal justice administration.
