104.4.3 Expiration Every permit issued under the provisions of this code shall expire twelve (12) months from the date of issue, unless the application is accompanied by a construction schedule of specific longer duration, in which instance the permit may be issued for the time period of the construction schedule with approval of the building official. If the work has not been completed, including all required inspections, by the expiration date of the permit, no further work shall be done until the permit has been renewed by the owner, or owner/s agent, and payment of the renewal fee has been received. The building official is authorized to grant one or more extensions of time, for periods of not more than six (6) months prior to the expiration date without payment of the renewal fee. Chapter 3

312.11 Structural Members. A structural member weakened or impaired by cutting, notching, or otherwise shall be reinforced, repaired, or replaced so as to be left in a safe structural condition in accordance with the requirements of the building code.

312.13 Exposed ABS Piping. ABS piping shall not be exposed to direct sunlight. Exception: ABS piping exposed to sunlight that is protected by water based synthetic latex paints.

408.4 Waste Outlet. Showers shall have a waste outlet and fixture tailpiece not less than 2 inches (50 mm) in diameter. Fixture tailpieces shall be constructed from the materials specified in Section 701.2 for drainage piping. Strainers serving shower drains shall have a waterway at least equivalent to the area of the tailpiece.

Exception: In a residential dwelling unit where a 2 inch waste is not readily available, and approval of the Authority Having Jurisdiction has been granted, the waste outlet, fixture tailpiece, trap, and trap arm shall be permitted to be 11⁄2 inch where an existing tub is replaced by a shower sized in accordance with Section 408.6. This exception only applies where one showerhead rated at 2.5 gpm or less is installed.

Emergency Eyewash and Shower Equipment Section 416.0

• Water supply to emergency eyewash and shower equipment shall not be limited on flow.

603.4 Specific Requirements. 603.4.1 Water closet and urinal flushometer valves shall be equipped with an atmospheric vacuum breaker. The vacuum breaker shall be installed on the discharge side of the flushometer valve with the critical level at least six (6) inches, or the distance according to its listing, above the overflow rim of a water closet bowl or the highest part of a urinal.

CHAPTER 8 INDIRECT WASTES

801.2.3 Food-Handling Fixtures. • Food-preparation sinks, steam kettles, potato peelers, ice cream dipper

wells, and similar equipment shall be indirectly connected to the drainage system by means of an airgap.

• Each indirect waste pipe from food-handling fixtures or equipment shall be separately piped to the indirect waste receptor and shall not combine with other indirect waste pipes.

• Bins, sinks, and other equipment having drainage connections and used for the storage of unpackaged ice used for human ingestion, or used in direct contact with ready-to-eat food, shall be indirectly connected to the drainage system by means of an airgap.

Listed air gaps shall be installed with the flood-level (FL) marking at or above the flood level of the sink or drainboard, whichever is higher.

CHAPTER 9 VENTS

904.2 Vent Length. Not more than one-third of the total permitted length, in accordance with Table 703.2, of a minimum-sized vent shall be installed in a horizontal position. Exception: Where a minimum-sized vent is increased one pipe size for its entire length, the maximum length limitation shall not apply.

905.2 Horizontal Drainage Pipe. Where vents connect to a horizontal drainage pipe, each vent pipe shall have its invert taken off above the drainage centerline of such pipe downstream of the trap being served.

SECTION (Applicable Code Edition[s]): SUBJECT: Drainage Fittings for Vents 905.3 (2003/2006/2009) – Item 2 QUESTION: Does Section 905.3 require the use of a combination wye and 1⁄8 bend installed on its back as a vent connection to a horizontal drain at which point the vent is below the flood level rim of the fixture being served? ANSWER: The correct fitting to be used for this type of installation is a combination wye and 1⁄8 bend. Section 905.3 states that vents less than 6 inches above the flood level rim of the fixture shall be installed with approved drainage fittings and material. A sanitary tee installed

in a horizontal position is not an approved drainage fitting.

906.7 Frost or Snow Closure. Where frost or snow closure is likely to occur in locations having minimum design temperature below 0°F , vent terminals shall be not less than 2 inches 3 inches in diameter, but in no event smaller than the required vent pipe. The change in diameter shall be made inside the building not less than 1 Foot below the roof in an insulated space and terminate not less than 10 inches above the roof, or in accordance with the Authority Having Jurisdiction.

908.2.1 Vent Connection. The dry vent connection to the wet vent shall be an individual vent for the bidet, shower, or bathtub. One or two vented lavatory(s) shall be permitted to serve as a wet vent for a bathroom group. Only one wet-vented fixture drain or trap arm shall discharge upstream of the dry-vented fixture drain connection. 908.2.3 Trap Arm. The length of the trap arm shall not exceed the limits in Table 1002.2. The trap size shall be in accordance with Section 1003.3.
