A FARWELL FROM EXTENSION DIRECTOR HYATT

This has been a wonderful Club Week. The quality of the exhibits, demon-strations, judging, talent and dress review has never been better. The appearancesmany of you have made on radio andtelevision during the week-— and thenewspaper coverage your activitieshave received-—will help to maintainthe favorable impression that 4—H'ersmake on the general public every-time they get together.

The entire Extension organiza-tion is proud of you, not only foryour achievements, but for your dis—play of citizenship, for conductingyourselves like ladies and gentlemenand for being the type of young peoplewho can make the "American Dream''of a better life for everyone cometrue.

Keep up the good work. DR. HYATT

"CITIZ ENSHIP" IN ACTION

From the National 4-H Club Foundation in Washington, D. C. comes theinstructor of Group V, Dorothy Emerson. ”Different" is a word which describesthis class; Mrs. Emerson helps to make it enjoyable, interesting and educationalthrough her own unique way which everyone likes. To begin with, she says to findrecreation in the joy of learning.

Mrs. Emerson points out that in giving a demonstration we should M Y O B(mind your own business); in other words, keep on the subject, use timing - seewhat you say when you say it, and K I S S (Keep it simple, stupid).

Most of us have trouble in getting things done. Well, Mrs. Emerson says toremember these ten Z-letter words — "If it is to be, it is up to me. " When you areasked to do something, don't say, "Who, me?" but, ”I'll be glad to!" Always bean AMER - I - CAN! Lastly, our teacher says to be a K O P (keep on the positiveside). After finishing a task, say, ”I ain't what I want to be. I ain't what I oughtto be, but I ain't what Iwas !!”

ON MR. J. C. SYKES

Mr. J. C. Sykes, former vice president of the Ralston Purina Company, addressed the morning assembly Wednesday. He is well known throughout the state, having been a member of the first Corn Club, attending N. C. State, and helping4-H in North Carolina throughout the years.

Mr. Sykes spoke on "Your Future in this Changing World. " As an exampleof how things are changing, he remembered that he got a 20-bushel yield in his.Corn Club project, and that was 10 bushels above the county average. Anotherexample of the changing world he has seen is the growth of N. C. State from thesmall school it used to be to its present, sprawling campus.

Our opportunities and the fact that we must make the most of them was alsopointed out by Mr. Sykes. He Spoke of the 4-H and Danforth principles and how wemust live by them now and later. He challenged us to boldness and fortitude ofspirit. We must strive to live up to his challenge. '
