Thirteen start-ups from Costa Rica, Ecuador, Canada, India, France, Ireland and the United States are working out of laboratory space in UCC, Cork to develop lean startups and tackle emerging markets with unique solutions. Of those 13 there are 4 Irish biotechnology startups taking part. The programme supports individuals and companies with an early stage prototype through investment, laboratory space and mentorship in a mini-MBA format. “IndieBio carefully selects teams from around the world who have the potential and the capacity to create world-changing biotech solutions for problems that were previously seen as intractable,” said Bill Liao, IndieBio founder and European venture partner for SOSV - The Accelerator VC . “When the cost of doing business in a particular sector gets ten millions times cheaper in just 12 years any savvy investor must take notice. Independent biotechnology has undergone just such a recent revolution."
