• Notice when we start subtracting the ones 2-5 can not be done.

• We know that 1 ten is the same as 10 ones.

Showing 1 ten equals 10 ones

Continuing back to show subtraction

• So we can then borrow 1 ten from the tens place making it 6 tens.

• Then give those 10 ones to the ones column so we have 10 ones plus 2 ones is 12 ones.

• 12 – 5 is 7. Now we can subtract our tens column. 6-4=2.
