Paper Piecing Instructions

1. Print pattern onto foundation paper. The numbers on the pattern should be visible on both sides of the paper. [Note: Make sure the pat-tern prints at 100% scale].

2. Trim the printed pattern to size to include 1/4” seam allowance around the finished edge.

3. Fabrics will be sewn to the foundation in numerical order. Using a dab of water soluble glue, place a first fabric piece right side up on the wrong side of the foundation covering all of first section on foundation paper pattern (denoted A1, B1 in the templates for this pattern).

4. Turn the foundation to the right side. Place the straight edge of an index card (or a piece of cardstock) on the line between first and sec-ond sections. Fold the foundation back over the straight edge of the card and trim the section one fabric 1/4” away from the fold.

5. Turn the foundation to the wrong side and place second fabric piece on section one fabric, right sides together.

6. Turn the foundation to the right side and sew on the line between sections one and two to join the two fabric pieces. Use a shorter stitch length to help perforate the paper for easy removal. [Note: Sew directly on the printed line; do not sew beyond it].

7. Turn the foundation to the right side and place the edge of the index card on the sewn line. Fold the foundation back over the card and trim the fabric 1/4” away from the fold.

8. Turn the foundation to the wrong side and press section 2 fabric open.

9. Continue in the same manner and in numerical order until all sec-tions are covered with fabric.

Constructing Pieced Blocks

11. A block consists of A and B units. Each unit A and B, when sewn together, creates one quad-rant of a finished block. Sew together (4) completed quadrants as indicated to complete one block.

12. There are (20) blocks. Use the diagram on Page 4 as a reference for correct fabric placement. Using foundation piecing, make a total of (20) blocks. Finished block with seam allowance will measure 10-1/2” square.

Quilt Top Assembly

13. Arrange and sew together (4) completed blocks and (3) 1-1/2” x 10-1/2” A sashing strips, alter-nating blocks with sashing strips to complete each row, as shown in the diagram on Page 4.

14. Sew the remaining A 1-1/2” x WOF strips together to make a long strip and subcut into (6) 1-1/2” x 43-1/2” horizontal sashing strips. From the remaining A strip, subcut into (2) 1-1/2” x 56-1/2” vertical sashing strips.

15. Sew together the pieced rows to complete the quilt top. Alternate each row with (1) 1-1/2” x 43-1/2” A horizontal sashing piece, beginning and ending with A sashing pieces.

16. Sew the remaining (2) 1-1/2” x 56-1/2” A vertical sashing pieces to the left and right sides of the quilt top.

Outer Border

17. Sew the U 5-1/2” x WOF strips together to make a long strip and subcut into (2) 5-1/2” x 55-1/2” top and bottom outer border strips. From the remaining U strip, subcut into (2) 5-1/2” x 56-1/2” side outer border strips.

18. Sew the (1) 5-1/2” x 56-1/2” U strip to the left and right sides of the quilt. Sew (1) 5-1/2” x 55-1/2” U strip to the top and bottom of the quilt. Remove all foundation papers prior to finishing.

Finishing

19. Layer the quilt top with batting and backing; quilt as desired. Using the 2-1/2” U strips, bind the edges to finish.
