Learning Experiences: AM 1- Children to make binoculars that they can use to go on an animal hunt around the school. AM 2- Children to watch the opening scene of film. What animals can they name? Can they describe what they look like? What sounds they make? What they eat? Etc. Children to go around the school and have a safari- with binoculars. Children to record the animals they find (animal pictures will be placed around school) PM1- Geography lesson on where Africa is and how it differs from England PM 2- Children to create an Adobe Voice on Africa – focusing on where it is, major cities, animals etc.

Thursday 7th January

Learning Experiences: ICT DAY – programming AM 1 -E-safety session AM 2- Programming Unit: writing algorithms, programming Daisy the Dinosaur using basic functions + repetition, selection and debugging. Following algorithms written by others. PM 1-African Art: Children to create a piece of African art that symbolizes the culture. PM 2- Children to count how many blue shapes, red shapes etc they used. 1 more 1 less/ 2 more 1 less/ 5 more 5 less /which colour is used most/least?

WEEK 2: The Animal Kingdom

Monday 11th January

Learning Experiences: AM1- Chn to begin learning about NF texts and their importance. CT to read children a range of Non-Fiction Texts and discuss the different ‘ingredients’. Children to collect information about an animal of their choice. CT to have KS1 friendly resources on the table for them to read from. AM 2- Children to create a ‘Guess the Animal’ sheet. Chn to write clues about their animal and record their answer inside. PowerPoint to share for this activity. PM 1 – Children to create a display from the ‘Guess the Animal’activty PM 2- Chn to fill out a 100 square of numbers. Ext. Chn to colour multiples of 2 in blue, multiples of 5 in red, multiples of 10 in green. Chn to focus on the formation of numbers and finding patterns in a 100 square.

Chn to do simple addition and subtraction questions using the animal sheets. PM 2 –Show and Tell and a variety of mental maths activities for children to participate in, at different tables.

Learning Experiences: AM 1 – Children to pretend they are going on Safari in Africa. Chn to write a postcard to their families explaining the journey. Learning Experiences: AM 1 – Chn to look at the cost of making a keep to go on safari. Chn to buy different materials to create their jeep with eg. Wheels, lights, windshield wipers etc. AM 2- Chn to continue making their jeep and calculating how much it will cost using 1ps, 2ps, 5ps, 10ps etc. PM 1 – Chn to begin building their jeep using a variety of materials eg. cardboard boxes, magnetic cubes, etc. PM 2- Chn continue to build their jeeps and compare their cars with friends. If time, chn to write a recount of creating their jeep

WEEK 4: Hakuna Matata

Monday 25th January

Whole School Trip: Kidzania Learning Experiences: AM 1 – Children to go over their knowledge of Non-Fiction Texts. What is a non-fiction text and what is the purpose? Chn to discuss the different ‘ingredients’ . Chn to read a range of age appropriate information about a specific animal (alligator, monkey, tiger, elephant). Chn to answer questions about these animals. AM 2 – Chn to create the animals in an artistic way. Chn to write information found from last session, on their animal.

WEEK 5: Data Capture 3

Monday 1st February

Learning Experiences: -Chn to look at the continent of Africa and locate different countries in Africa. Chn to have an understanding of what a continent is and locate other continents in the world. Chn to choose a country and colour that map, discussing what the different colours mean (South African Flag). -Chn to begin creating their Ndebele pictures that they will continue tomorrow. Chn to have an understanding that this project will take them a long time and it is something that is not to be rushed.
