THE WEEK AHEAD
In Our Parish
September 29, 2019– 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time
In today’s Gospel, Jesus reminds us that our worth is not so much on what we have as who we are to God.
The story about Lazarus should remind us
that in the next life, the good will be rewarded, and
the bad will be punished. Is this a warning, or a
consolation to you? It all depends on the kind of life
you are living now. One thing is sure, we carry
nothing with us when we leave this world, except the
love we have shared.
Let us continue to be the visible face of Christ’s love and compassion by what we say and do.
Let us keep on loving as Jesus did. Amen.

We truly believe everything we pray in the Apostles’ Creed: - That God is the Creator of Heaven and Earth. That Jesus Christ is His only begotten Son. That Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit. That Jesus was born of the Virgin Mary. That Jesus suffered, died, was buried, and rose again on the
third day. - That God is both Divine and human.
WE BELIEVE that He is present, Body, Blood, Soul, Divinity in Holy Communion. Receiving Jesus in Holy Communion is the greatest gift He
gives us. Second is to spend time with Him (Our Eucharistic Lord) during Eucharistic Adoration.
He can do all things…things we cannot comprehend as human beings. Jesus didn’t say “this is a symbol of my
Body”. He said “I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world” John 6:51. Once an ordained priest blesses the bread of the Lord's Supper, it is transformed into the actual flesh of Christ (though it retains the appearance, odor, and taste of bread); and when he blesses the wine, it is transformed into the actual blood of Christ (though it retains the appearance, odor, and taste of wine)
In the Eucharist, we see Him in the form in which He has chosen to come to us on our earthly journey. Come and join us the first Thursday of each month after the 8am Mass until 3pm.

Peace & Justice: The feast day for St. Francis of Assisi is October 4th, 2019. In honor of St. Francis, the ‘Blessing of the Animals’ will be held 10/4/19 at 6:00 pm in Star of the Sea Church’s parking lot. Come celebrate St. Francis’ feast day by bringing your pets to receive a special prayer & blessing! Also consider
donating pet food or gently used blankets and towels to the local animal shelters around this time of the year to celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi. Families can also help their children learn more about endangered or abused animals and what we can do to help. Who was St. Francis? St. Francis was born in the 12th century, lived in Italy and founded the men’s Order of Friars Minor, the women’s Order of St. Clare, and the Third Order of Saint Francis for men and women not able to live the lives of itinerant preachers. Francis was known for his generosity to the poor, his willingness to minister to the lepers, and for his love for animals and nature. He is remembered as the Catholic Church’s patron saint of animals and the environment. In March of 2013, Pope Francis chose his papal name to be called after St. Francis of Assisi because he was “the man of poverty, the man of peace, the man who loves and protects creation.”
May we always praise
you for all your beauty in creation.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, in all your creatures! Amen.
Father Steve, parishioners, and pets at the Blessing of the Animals, Oct. 4, 2018

Social Outreach: We str ive to help our needy brothers and sisters in our community by “loving our neighbors” especially with our food pantry at Social Outreach! We serve our Virginia Beach parish neighbors, needy, and homeless .
The following items are always greatly appreciated as they are very helpful to the individuals and families that
come to Social Outreach:
Toilet Paper Bottled Water Deodorant Instant Coffee Our Social Outreach guests are very grateful for the services we provide! One guest was so overwhelmed with stress when she came to Social Outreach. After we helped in her time of need, she dropped to her knees in prayer and cried out “Thank you God for this church!” Additionally our Social Outreach was surprised by a “Sweet Blessing” from a parishioner recently! The parishioner wanted to celebrate her late father’s birthday in a special way. In honor of her father, she baked a large chocolate cake with peanut butter crème frosting, and simply requested that his favorite cake be shared with our Social Outreach guests since he always liked doing something for others. Our guests enjoyed the sweet birthday cake treat! Thank you!
