ith spring comes renewal and this year is no exception. Clean out

your closet and enjoy adding pieces that express your individuality and reflect this seasons new top trends. Color comes to life this spring with bold hues of reds, blues, and yellows. I am loving Diane Von Furstenberg’s silhouettes in these tones which are classy yet bold. As seen on the runways of Rebecca Taylor and Marc by Marc Jacobs mixing and matching prints is encouraged this season. Unique prints are easy to find throughout all the designer’s collections.

earth elements are making a statement as well through natural colors of pale pinks, ivorys, tans, whites, and khaki. This color palette looks exceptional with sun kissed skin and glossy lips. The 3.1 Phillip lim collection highlighted these hues in an elegant yet wearable style.

For must have items this season, invest in skirts, shorts, rompers, strong shoulders, and blazers to update your wardrobe.

The trends this spring have something for everyone with silhouettes to suit lifestyle and budget. We have categorized the spring trends into: the Americana woman, safari chick, the party girl, glam lady, and the valley girl.

As always, fashion is about self expression. Celebrate the change of season by picking new pieces for your wardrobe that reflect the freshness of new trends.

Whether dressing for parties, showers, or tea you can’t go wrong with embracing the vintage inspiration of My Fair lady. Think of cupcakes, sprinkles, and colored candy mixed with floral bouquets to nail this trend. looks are found in printed dresses and camis that speak sweet. Mix in pearls, floral jewelry and top it off with hair accessories of bows and flowers. Shoes consist of embellished ballet flats or ruffled heels. Bring in a pop color with a clutch. For makeup try pink tones and play up lashes with a double coat of mascara for that Twiggy inspired look. Nails should be cropped short with nude or light pink polish.

Bring out your inner wild side on a journey through the Serengeti this spring. Find the perfect safari core pieces with olive, khaki, black, and tan separates in silk shirts, shorts, and rompers. Try tribal or animal printed maxi dresses, cami’s, and skirts for popping

the African expression. Pair with jewelry in earth elements of wood through bangles, earrings, and belts. Add splashes of gold to enhance the vibe. Throw on a cross body bag to complete the expedition look. For shoes wear low boots, gladiator sandals, or thick wedges in brown tones. Makeup should be natural with peach tones and glosses.

Born To RunAMERICANA

Route 66, Bruce Springsteen, and cherry slushies, the American icons of the past are transformed with a modern twist to keep you feeling nostalgic but fresh in this spring trend. look for plaid combinations in blues, reds, and whites through dresses, shirts, and scarves. Denim is not limited to jeans with this trend, you’ll find it in shorts, skirts and jackets to accentuate the Americana tradition. Whether in shorts, sundresses, or casual attire there is a plethora of choices to embrace the good ol’ USA.

Keep the accessories minimal with the classic Ray Ban sunglasses and the oxford shoe. Beach waves, air dried hair, pink cheeks and glossy lips complete this look.

VALLEY GIRL Turn on the bright lights this season with vibrant color.liven up your closet with turquoise, yellows, greens, and pinks. Punch your wardrobe with an intense color palette and a mix of eccentric patterns. Now is the time to mix and match the color story.

Channel your inner valley girl through kitschy patterns, bright silk dresses, camisoles, and shorts. The must have item in this realm is the romper, which is here to stay this spring. Add enlarged cocktail rings, colored bangles, beaded necklaces, and unique hair accessories including the bow trend for mod vibrancy. Curl your hair and try the seasons brights in your eyeshadows with nude lips. Nails can be intense with blues, greens, and purples.

MATT BALDWIN Owner & Stylist ofStandard Style Boutique

or Spring Ten there’s a fresh, classic feel in the air. It’s been really good being able to appreciate the past while looking forward and being progressive. Appreciation of Mid- Century

modernism and classic style has been a focus for many seasons now, and it keeps getting better; we’re also revisiting the 60s surf culture and the lifestyle surrounding the era. We love the statement, “If it’s designed well once, then it’s designed well forever,” and it’s as true as ever for menswear this season. Visiting the past in American culture has been an exciting journey, and we are making history as we speak by selecting American designers who are making products with a huge value proposition of price point, fit and overall look. Staying away from trend-driven pieces is our mission at this time as well, so buying great fitting classic pieces is essential for the upcoming season.

I see dry-selvage denim making a huge impact in the market right now, as well as khaki pants and shorts entering the picture as denim alternatives. The classic button-down shirt is your new t-shirt, and the work boot is here to stay. The boat shoe and moccasin have been mainstays for always being quintessential, as well as a staple lace-up pair of Vans. Then finishing your look off with a classic oxford shirt for dress or casual is always a solid play.

The word “fashion” has encompassed a lot over the past ten years, when America has gone from a mass-market consumer mentality to a market where most are- striving for their own identity. I’d like to get away from the words fashion and trends and instead strive to find out what it means to live life to the fullest with style. lifestyle encompasses well thought out decisions about what we wear, what we drive, where we live, and where we eat. The basic choices we make with our time and money is so relevant given the state of America at this time. Making educated decisions as an American consumer is vital. looking to the success of the past has been a blast as we went into the design process for Baldwin Denim and the spring 2010 product buy for the stores. Buying American-made and American-sourced products have been a personal passion of mine, ranging from produce to clothing. From American-made selvage denim to Red Wing boots, these products are functional and have a huge value proposition due to their long lasting nature and enduring style. I will be passing them down to my two sons, and something about all this just feels right. It strikes a cord with the nature of being a man.

Not many things define American style like denim and a t-shirt. Dry-selvage denim lays the foundation, made to be worn and telling the story of how you wear it. The classic t-shirt gets some company, being joined by faded polos and button-downs as the new basics. The roots of American style endure this spring; these are constants in a world of fast fashion.

Cruising through your neighborhood in the brisk air, enjoying the time between the cold and the heat is the heart of spring. Somewhere between casual and dressy, this season’s styles emerge with washed out button-downs and chinos in muted colors. lightweight shorts and layering pieces add to the dressy/casual blend and help make spring 2010 comfortable and stylish.

Windows down and the stereo up sums up these looks for spring. Cars that you want to drive all the time paired with clothes that you want to wear over and over. High and tight, a hard part, just a little off the top and sides. No matter how they liked it, men in the past always had a go to look and knew who to go see to get it. This season tells a similar story: a look that can become “your look,” simple and understated, with emphasis on fit and great pops of classic reds and blues. Sure to look as good as a new haircut.
