Every Quincy QSI features a direct coupling drive and C-faced motors witha flanged connection to the airend onmodels through the Quincy QSI 750.This flanged drive system ensures a permanent alignment and a simple drive system.

Larger Rotors Turning SlowerAirend Durability Rotor diameter, length, and speed determine the acfm

that can be produced. Logically, thismeans that a smaller airend withsmaller rotors must turn faster than a larger airend with largerrotors to produce the same acfm.

Airend Efficiency Larger rotors turning slower produce more acfm

per brake horsepower. Typically, theclearance between rotors is known as the “leakage path.” Smaller rotorshave a much greater “leakage path”than larger rotors. In addition, the fasterthe rotors are turning, the greater thedrag coefficient. Combined with gear or belt friction, these smaller airendinefficiencies add up to increasedpower consumption.

The airend is the most expensive component of your compressor toreplace and it determines a majority of your operating costs. The bottom-line – the Quincy QSI oversized airend can save you thousands of dollars in maintenance and energy costs.

Butmore than oversized bearings, theQuincy QSI features an exclusive Triplexbearing arrangement. This superior“three bearing” arrangement is designed todeliver over 130,000 hours of operation,far exceeding the average life expectancyof competing compressors.

In addition, the Quincy QSI uses a positive displacement gear-type fluidpump to lubricate both the rotors andthe bearings. This pump is driven bythe rotor shaft, so as soon as the compressor starts, lubrication beginsinstantly. During unloaded operation, thepump works with the positive closureinlet valve allowing reservoir pressure tobe relieved – reducing unloaded brakehorsepower to as low as 13.5% of full load.

Optional Control MethodsLoad/No Load This is a simple controlalternative. A switch on the control panelallows the choice between modulation andload/no load. In this mode, the compressordoes not modulate the inlet valve – the valveis either fully open or fully closed. Load/noload works with auto-dual control to turnthe compressor off during extended periodsof no demand. For systems that call forthis type of control, maximum efficiencyis gained by operating fully loaded, completely unloaded, or off.

Net$ync® “multiple machine network control”The next step in multiple machine controlis the Quincy Net$ync. This is an auxiliarycontrol unit for operating up to 12compressors in different control modes,based on the air demands of a particular system. In this system, the compressoroperates as an auto-demand machine, butthe pressure switch control that operatesthe shutdown delay timer is transferred to the remote controller. The Net$ync controller monitors plant air system pressure and stages the starting and stopping of compressors to satisfy the system demands.

Lead/Lag “multiple machine control”System demands that are variable, buthave consistent steps in their variation,can benefit from the Quincy QSI lead/lagcontrol option. This manual option allowsone of two different pressure controlsettings to be chosen for a given machine.If the demand for air is greater than thelead unit’s capability, the lag compressorwill automatically turn itself on until theexcess demand is satisfied. Again, workingwith the standard auto-dual control, the lag machine will time out and turnitself off after the demand dropped.With one compressor (or several) set aslead and the backup as lag, the backupcompressor will automatically startshould the primary compressor fail tooperate properly.

Quincy’s exclusive percentcapacity gauge details the compressor load level.When load levels are low,the Quincy QSI can be shut down with confidence,unlike competitivemachines that may be lefton-line because load levels are unknown.

Standard Control PanelThe Quincy QSI is both reliable and functional. A selector switch on the controlpanel allows the user to select auto-dualcontrol or continuous run control. In theauto-dual mode, the compressor will load,unload, and modulate in response to systemdemand. If there is no system demand duringthe pre-set time delay, the compressor willshut down the main drive motor and, onair-cooled units, the fan motor. The compressor then goes into a “stand-by”mode and continues to monitor systempressure. As soon as the system pressuredrops, the controls will react by restartingthe compressor.

Continuous run operation can be selected if typical plant operations include frequent,brief periods of no air usage. In continuousrun, the control circuitry bypasses thetimer and the compressor does not shutdown. This control method preventsexcessive restarting and extends the motorlife in certain applications.

The standard compressor control panel hasa maintenance and shutdown annunciatorpanel to indicate various service and shut-down conditions. A graphic display showingthe compressor schematic has amber lightsto indicate the need to service the air filter,fluid filter, and separator element. Redlights indicate shutdown conditions forhigh air or fluid temperature, and drive orfan motor overload. These indicators aredesigned to allow easy remote sensing ofall service and shutdown conditions.

The control panel also includes:• Start button• Red mushroom stop button with twist lock• Power-on light• Lamp test button for annunciator panel• Discharge air pressure gauge• Percent capacity gauge• Hour meter• Compressor discharge temperature gauge

All gauges are 2-1/2", stainless steel backed and bezeled, with silicon-dampened dashpotmovements. They provide the reliability andservice life of liquid-filled gauges, withoutthe possibility of liquid leaks. Temperatureand pressure gauges have both English and metric scales.

Analog gauges offer status at a glance, while LED indication of warning andshutdown conditions gives superior condition indication for reliable operation.

Energy EfficientMaximizing the efficiencies of the QuincyQSI, the patented Quincy Power$ync® isthe most advanced electronic controller in the industry. Designed to monitorchanges in system air pressure as well as the rates of these changes, the QuincyPower$ync microprocessor works constantly – adjusting to efficiently meet the air demands of your system.

When the Quincy Power$ync senses aslow drop in pressure, the response rate isrecalibrated to allow a delayed responsebefore adding capacity. Often, the slightair demand causing the pressure drop isquickly satisfied – allowing the pressure to rise again without adding capacitywhich translates to higher power costs. In contrast, if the pressure drop is great,the Quincy Power$ync will add morecapacity than pressure alone would indicatenecessary – preventing excessive systempressure drops and production losses.

The Quincy Power$ync maintains peakefficiencies around the clock. Workingin conjunction with the airend liftvalves, compressor output is matchedto system demand. The part load efficiency of the lift valves, combinedwith the detailed monitoring of theQuincy Power$ync, deliver unmatchedefficiency and reliable performance.

QuinSyn IV® is a blended synthetic fluid designedfor operating in areas of high ambient temperaturesand/or contamination. It uses a PAO base stock toprovide excellent lubricating qualities, but isblended to be economically changed on a morefrequent basis when contaminant loads are high.

QuinSyn-XP® is a special POE synthetic fluiddesigned to operate under the harshest of conditions;pressures over 175 psig and fluid temperatures over225˚ F.
