If You Are Tardy…

If you are outside of the classroom when the tardy bell sounds, you are considered tardy and the teacher will not allow you to enter the classroom.

Teachers in the hallway will escort you to a Tardy Station where your late arrival will be recorded on your discipline record. More than 3 tardies will result in consequences administered by your Administrator.

When you return to class, it is your responsibility to retrieve any missed work. You will not be excused from any missed work. Quietly enter the classroom and begin working immediately.

Page 15: Stafford Secondary Campus Student Assembly September 3 rd, 2014.

Attendance

Page 28: Stafford Secondary Campus Student Assembly September 3 rd, 2014.

Your Attendance At School Is Very Important (see SMSD Student Handbook)

Students must comply with the minimum state attendance requirement which is 90% for each class in order to receive credit for the class. Students who miss 10 or more days within a school year or 3 or more days within a four week period are breaking state attendance laws.

An absence from school creates a disruption of learning. Multiple absences may cause you to repeat a subject or grade level.

Page 29: Stafford Secondary Campus Student Assembly September 3 rd, 2014.

Unexcused Absences

If you have three or more unexcused absences in a four week period you and your parent/guardian will be required to go to court for truancy.

You are considered truant:– if you are absent from any class during the day without

permission – or if you are absent without your parent’s/guardian’s

permission.

Page 30: Stafford Secondary Campus Student Assembly September 3 rd, 2014.

Attendance Notes

If you are absent you must bring a note to Ms. Nickerson in the Main Office on the day that you return to school but no later than the end of the third day upon returning from the absence.

The note must be signed and dated by the parent/guardian; describe the reason for the absence and include parent/guardian contact numbers.

Failure to bring a note within three days will result in the absence being coded as unexcused.

Page 31: Stafford Secondary Campus Student Assembly September 3 rd, 2014.

Extended Absences

If you are absent from school for five consecutive days because of personal illness you must bring a statement from the doctor or health clinic verifying the illness or condition that caused the extended absence from school.

Page 32: Stafford Secondary Campus Student Assembly September 3 rd, 2014.

If You Need To Leave Campus

Your parent or guardian must pick you up from the Main Office if you need to leave school early. Only the persons on your contact list will be allowed to pick you up from school. Encourage your parents to keep your contact information updated in the event of an emergency.

Page 33: Stafford Secondary Campus Student Assembly September 3 rd, 2014.

Attendance Checks Each Day

Each Principal receives a computer print out of attendance each day.

If you miss one or more periods during the day you will be called to the office to explain your absence.

Unexplained absences from class are considered truancy and you will receive a discipline consequence.
