GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF
SCRIPTURE
I f you brought your child to the restroom during the Liturgy of
the Word, you might walk away with one of two interpretations of
Jesus as King. The first and second
readings are bold and victorious. We see Christ coming on the
clouds for the final judgment of heaven and earth. The Gospel sets
a very different tone. Jesus is under arrest and facing death
before Pontius Pilate. We know how this story will end. So if
Christ is King, what does it mean? Is he a glorious conqueror or a
suffering servant? "My kingdom does not belong to this world." Here
is the heart of Jesus' reign. He is a king -- and his "subjects"
are alive and well on earth -- but, ultimately, Jesus' kingdom
transcends our earthly concepts of power. Jesus faced down the
temptation of a solely earthly kingship. At the close of his 40
days in the desert, the devil offered him the kingdoms of the
world. Jesus only had to sacrifice his heavenly values and worship
Satan. The same temptations to distort the kingship of Christ are
present to us today. Jesus' invitation also endures. "Everyone who
belongs to the truth listens to my voice." It is important for us
to belong to the full truth of Christ's kingdom. First, our own
hearts must be transformed. Our own rebellions in favor of
selfishness and against holiness must be conquered by God's grace.
Second, we must work to transform the world as best we can in our
own corner of it. Like Jesus shows us by his life and death, this
doesn't mean domination. It means service, sacrifice, respect, and
love. Our lives must "testify to the truth" of Jesus Christ, who
lays down his life for his people. That is the true beauty of
Christ the King! -Liturgical Publications

not mean reciting a vast quantity of vocal prayers every day;
rather, I mean the elevation of the soul to God through all
things.”

December 9th, 9:30 am - 3:00 pm Please join us for our annual
Advent Day of Prayer. This is a day of reflection and prayer. We
will journey with Mary to Bethlehem. Using imaginative prayer, we
will enter into "deep listening" to all she "pondered within her
heart." Inspired from Mary's journey, we will pause and reflect on
our own personal "journey to Bethlehem" in anticipation of
celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus in our lives. Sunday Mass
will be celebrated together. Presented by Sr. Sandy Setterlund
SSJ-TOSF. The cost for this day is $45. Please call St. Anthony's
at 715-443-2236 or visit us online at our Facebook page or at
www.sarcenter.com to register for this day of prayer. If you would
like to stay at St. Anthony's on the night before or after this
event, please call to inquire about the cost and availability of
overnight accommodations.
December 31st - January 1st = New Year's Eve Retreat: Pray
Always - We are excited to welcome back Fr. Tom Zelinski, OFM Cap,
who will help us consider the importance and scope of prayer in our
lives, especially as we look to the new year and the resolutions we
would like to keep. This one-night retreat begins with the evening
meal and includes a Holy Hour of Adoration, a late night social to
count down to the New Year and Mass on New Year's Day. The cost of
this retreat is $95. For more information on these and other
programs at St. Anthony's can be found on our website at
sarcenter.com, on our Facebook page, or by calling our office at
715-443-2236.
