LIBRARY & INFORMATION CENTRE COLLEGE OF VETERINARY AND ANIMAL SCIENCES

ANNUAL REPORT :2008-09 INTRODUCTION :- Library of College of Veterinary and Animal sciences , Udgir has been established in the year 1987 with the inception of the college. It is functioning to cater to the literature needs of the students and staff of this college. The demands of the scientific literature are growing day by day with the inception of new courses and the pattern of examination in different subjects. The demands for literature and information from academic community have compelled to strengthen the library by literature as well as human resources and to organize effective services to them. With the minimum resources and inadequate untrained staff, the library is giving better services to the students and staff of this college. A. Library Collection as on 31-3-2009 :

D. Library Staff : The library staff is perhaps the most important component to play an important role in the developmental activities of college. Presently there is no adequate trained library staff as per the ICAR/ UGC Standard and Norms to run the library. The library is manned by only one professional, one Agricultural Assistant , One Laboratory Assistant and one class IV peon. The supporting staff is pulled from other establishment and always transferred from the library. The frequent transfer of the supporting staff causes the interruption in the library services. The lacuna in the trained , professional library staff causes the loss of books and interruptions in the library services. The proposal for the appointment of trained library staff was approved in the College Advisory Council Meeting and was submitted to the MAFSU for the consideration and approval .

REQUIREMENTS OF LIBRARY AND INFORMATION CENTRE
1. Supporting Library Staff :
Introduction :-The Library of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Udgir is functioning since 1987 to cater to the literary demands of the Academic Community. The demands of the scientific literature are growing day by day with the inception of new courses
and postgraduate studies in different disciplines in veterinary and animal sciences subject. The educational and research activities in this college have been intensified as the students and staff are starving hard to solve the problems of the rural poor community in Latur district in the field of agriculture and animal husbandry. They needs to support with the latest advanced information technology. The library of College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Udgir is under staff. Many administrative problems are raised due to the non availability of technical trained supporting library staff. There is workload with the issuing of books , recording and maintenance of newspapers , Xeroxing , maintenance of Xeroxing record, recording of periodicals, newsletters, maintenance of back volumes of periodicals, maintenance of book stack. All these works are routine and we can not postpone or avoid these work. Library is essential service centre. The staff working in library needs to be attentive in the work. For the efficient library services it is essential to have supporting library staff as per the I.C.A.R. / U.G.C. Norms.
2 Library Building :-
The Present library space is not sufficient to cope up with the needs of the readers . The reading material is growing day by day . There is no sufficient space to accommodate the material . There is no space for the furniture. A new Internet Unit has been started in the library with the 5 computers . The old Reading hall for the staff has been converted in the Internet unit . The periodical section is shifted in the students reading room , where there is no safety for the periodicals . Now there is no space for the staff members to sit and read . Some book cases are also placed in the students reading hall . There fore it is essential to have a specious , well equipped library building to provide specious area for the book stack , periodical section , staff reading hall , Internet computer units , etc.
