Rationale The College plays an influential role in establishing and supporting new staff to the College as a process of continuous improvement. The Lake Joondalup Baptist College Induction Program contains checklists and resources which are to be used for up to the first twelve months after commencement or return to a position. It delivers key information about the College Vision and Mission, culture, values and policy settings to guide responsible and appropriate behaviour and decision making. In addition, induction provides staff with support, direction and feedback about their work.
Purpose An employee who has participated in an induction program will:
understand their role and the work required of them
develop effective work practices
feel valued, supported and involved in the College community
work within the bounds of College policies and the College Strategic Plan
understand and know how to access relevant policies, guidelines and procedures
understand the professional standards and behaviours expected of them
receive feedback through the formal feedback process
successfully use the necessary facilities and resources needed to carry out their work
establish productive and harmonious working relationships with colleagues
develop clear work goals
complete a development plan that addresses individual development needs and the College needs
participate in professional development activities and programs consistent with their development plan
know whom to approach for support and guidance. Work in relation to these outcomes is however an ongoing and a developmental process which continues after the formal induction program has been completed.
Participants The policy applies to all staff whose employment is based on the:
Lake Joondalup Baptist College Inc. Operational School Staff Agreement
the Lake Joondalup Baptist College Inc. Education Assistants Enterprise Agreement
the Lake Joondalup Baptist College Inc. Teachers Collective Agreement.
Alignment with the College’s Strategic and Annual Implementation Plans Staff induction is part of the broader framework of Lake Joondalup Baptist College’s Strategic Plan. It aims to provide feedback and direction both to the College and the individual by providing opportunities for reflection, measurement and goal setting. It further aims to support staff as they adapt to the external environment bringing about changes in roles. This will also improve job satisfaction, personal and career development and College outcomes.
Responsibility Line Manager Staff Induction is the responsibility of the Secondary Manager Staff Development and Executive Business Manager, Dean of Primary PK-2 and Dean of Primary 3-6. These staff are therefore responsible for enabling employees to complete the induction process and support the staff member as they work towards goals that have been set. Individual Staff induction is a shared task between the staff mentioned in 1.1 and the individual staff member. Ultimately, each individual is responsible for their own development and is expected to manage their own personal and professional development, as well as contribute to the development of their colleagues by sharing their expertise. Equal Opportunity Staff induction is an important aspect of LJBC’s strategic plan and Culture. All staff are eligible for induction, and equal opportunity applies to access and participation by all staff. Timing Staff are required to take part in the Induction process for at least the first twelve months of their appointment. Process The Induction Process includes all activities and meetings required to successfully complete the process. It will involve a variety of staff depending on the role/position held by the employee. Specific details of the process may vary according to the needs of the role/position.
