Christmas Blessings and our best wishes for your holiness, closeness to God, and love among family and friends. May you find the space and time in your life to allow God to be born in you. May His Birth bring Light and Life into your family and your world. May the Blessed Mother, Saint Joseph and all who welcomed the Child Jesus support you in your personal and spiritual life - to be a Bearer of Jesus Christ and live joyfully in His Presence. Christmas is about Christ’s Birth which took place over 2000 years ago and happens today and now in each
one of us. This is the wisdom and thoughtfulness, glory and greatness, simplicity and uniqueness, concern and love of our God. He wants to be born in each one of us. He wants us to carry Him and care for Him - like Mary and Joseph did. Wouldn’t you like to hold a New Born Infant in your arms for even a short while? God is requesting this of us - hold Him for all eternity! Our Almighty God, Creator of Heaven and Earth, chooses to enter our human existence in the same way we come into this world - by being born as an infant. The simplicity of His greatness is hidden in His helplessness; His need to want our care and companionship endorses His act of creating us to share in His glory; His announcement of His birth to poor shepherds and to people of good will challenges us to be messengers of His concern for all of us. God, above all, has gifted Himself to us in a way that we can approach Him, hold Him and enjoy His Smallness. May we, in the spirit of our God, become worthy gifts to each other through our kindness and caring, our attentiveness and availability, our generosity and

love. May God’s love for us help our love for family and friends overflow in our love for the poor and needy. May Christmas be a joyful experience in each of us - Jesus Christ is born today; yes, He is born in you and me!
Merry Christmas to you and to all in your family and neighborhood, and God bless you always - Fr. Lance
THANK YOU Christmas Time is special at St. Virgil, and all are welcome into our Faith Community and to experience how we worship God especially in our Eucharist, how we form family and community and renew our faith in each other, and how we reach out to the needy and those who are in need of knowing and following our Lord.
Christmas Time is a good occasion to thank each and every one of you for your participation and prayers, your valuable support and encouragement, and for giving of your time, effort and talent to make St. Virgil a People of God.
Thank you to all in our ministries: Lectors, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers and Greeters, Altar Servers, and those who prepare the altar linen each week.
A special Thank You to our team of church decorators: Helene and Chuck Havers who have given a lot of time and energy to beautify our church - the specially designed creche, the wreathes which include the pine-cones from our trees around the Parish Office and the garlands. Thank you also to Sharon Carroll, Cinzia Giglio, Marisa Nieto and Margaret Herold for helping with the decorations. We also had the help of our Youth Ministry - many high school students who enjoyed working together and making St. Virgil ready for the Christmas Season.
Our choirs have been rehearsing for weeks in advance. Our children under the guidance of Nina Rangel show great enthusiasm in “singing for Jesus”. Also known as our “cherub choir” they have special hymns for Jesus and for our benefit. Our Youth Choir and Band under the leadership of Danielle Capuzzi make our Masses with our youth meaningful. We are grateful to them for their love of music and their joy of sharing their faith with us through their uplifting music and hymns. Our Adult Choir has benefitted very much through the active directorship of Pam Kane and Beth Vecchio. For Christmas they have added some brass and their music will enhance our worship of God and bring joy to each of us. Our united “Thank You” to all our choirs, musicians and everyone who supports them.
Thank You also to our Youth Minister, Penny Manser and all in her Peer Ministry; to our Religious Education Team: Chris Letta, Susan Pittaro, Marie Tonini and Teresa Rangel and the many Catechists, Teachers and Aides. Their valuable time and patience in guiding our children and youth are most important in leading all to Jesus.
Thank You for all who take on the responsibility and care of our various organizations: Rosary Society, Knights of Columbus, Living Rosary, Counters and Carnival Team, Prayer Shawl Ministry, Chillout and Women’s Shelters, Haiti Drive, the Star of Bethlehem and other charities.
Thank You to our Secretary, Gloria Carvagno, whose responsible, generous and dedicated service brings together most of all we do at St. Virgil. Thank You to Jane Flynn for her weekly and timely help in scheduling our ministries, a very important support at St. Virgil. Thank You also to Robert Lucia, our maintenance man, who always has our plant up and running and assists us with the daily upkeep.
Thank You also to our Deacon Rich Pinto, Deacon Merle Sisler and Deacon Sal Mazzoccoli for their selfless ministry and for creating a spirit of unity and holiness at St. Virgil.
Special Thanks to Fr. Daniel. He is now grown into our parish and we are most grateful to him for his priestly ministry and support of St. Virgil.
And Thank You and Merry Christmas to all of you for choosing to be at St. Virgil - Fr. Lance

Weekly Reflections Fourth Sunday of Advent/Nativity of the Lord, Christmas December 24/25, 2017 Fourth Sunday of Advent Mass: Luke 1:26-38 Vigil Mass: Matthew 1:1-25 Day Mass: John 2:1-18
Today we celebrate the very shortest that a Fourth Sunday of Advent could be - one day! That is because Christmas falls on a Monday this year.
Matthew’s Gospel tells us of the things connected to the Jewish history, tracing the family lineage of Christ back to Abraham. It also brings out St. Joseph’s dreams, which remind those of Jewish background that Joseph of the Old Testament had dreams that also guided him. Luke’s Gospel gives us the Blessed Mother’s perspective and the simplicity of those involved with this birth, i.e.: The Shepherds, while John’s Gospel tells us, again, of the more philosophical angle: “In the beginning was the word…”
Most important for us is to focus on the importance of the Incarnation. Without Christ becoming man, there is no Christianity; there is no “world without end;” there is no Mass, no sacraments; no miracles or parables. The fact that God became one of us is the central tenet of our faith – because He loves us so much He offered His whole birth, life and death to show us the “Way” to live our lives and to join us in our everyday lives.
So, let us rejoice, be glad, celebrate the Day and find meaning in both the readings and in the exchange of gifts. Christ gave to us, so we could give to each other. Let’s resolve to find meaning in both the religious and secular parts of the Day.
Rejoice, rejoice, the Lord is with us!
Evangelization Corner The 2017 Season of Advent is coming quickly to a conclusion. Can you believe today is the
Fourth Sunday in Advent? I’m sure for most of us it went by too quickly. This week marked the end of our waiting — the gift we’ve been longing for is almost here. Hopefully, it has not been a wasted time as preparation can be so important in every aspect of our lives.
Advent has been a season of yearning, a time of hope, a time for preparation, a time to reflect and a time of waiting for the arrival of the Child who fulfills every hope — a time of expectation and
thankfulness. Advent has been a time to remember the birth of the Child who has opened the way from earth to heaven.
Advent has also been a time to evangelize, to be reminded of and to share with others the truth that our joy does not rest solely in our material comfort but in a divine promise that has been fulfilled through the birth of the Child, the ‘Eternal Word’ becoming flesh. Advent has also called us to recognize and make other people aware that although one day our lives will come to an end, our work will be done, our churches will cease to exist, our civilization will end, the one thing we can be sure of is that His Kingdom will not end and everything we do for His kingdom will go on forever.
The culmination of the Advent season returns us to the announcement of Christ’s coming and that God is with us. It recalls how God has filled and is filling and will fill every gap in our lives and in our world; a message of hope that all need to hear. It is a time to show our joy in knowing that our difficult circumstances are not the entirety of our lives and that there is a love more powerful than death; a love that will continue for all eternity.
St. Pope Benedict XVI often reflected on Christmas as an impetus to evangelize.
He said: “Being reached by the presence of God, who draws near to us at Christmas, is an inestimable gift, a gift that is capable of making us live in the universal embrace of the friends of God, in that network of friendship with Christ that binds heaven and earth, that directs human freedom toward its fulfillment and that, if lived in its truth, flourishes in a gratuitous love and a concern for the good of all people.”
He went on to say that there is nothing more beautiful, urgent or important than giving others what we have received from God and that nothing can exempt us from our duty to proclaim to all the presence of God in our midst.
He concluded his message calling on Mary, “the incomparable model of evangelization”, to obtain the grace for the Church to proclaim Christ the savior.
All Christians should feel joy in sharing with others the good news that “God so loved the world to give his only begotten Son so that the world might be saved through him.”
May His grace be with each of us as we continue on our journey with Christ.
