Happy Easter!

Christ is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!

Christ is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia! Happy Easter! From all of us here at St. Valentine Parish, Priests, Deacon, and our entire

staff, we pray that you and your loved ones may have a blessed and hope-filled Easter. May we accept the grace Jesus won for us with gratitude and amazement, and live our lives as his resurrected people. And being filled with Easter Joy may we share that message to those who still sit in darkness and fear. Archbishop Alan Vigneron wants us all “to move towards the goal of becoming a band of joyful missionary disciples.” In joy, may we answer Jesus’ mission to us, and go out to our brothers and sisters in our own homes and neighborhoods, bringing Jesus and His new life through our words and actions. With heartfelt gratitude, we would like to thank all those who worked hard to

make our Lenten and Easter celebrations so meaningful. Added to that, thanks to our ushers, altar servers, Eucharistic Ministers, lectors, Kevin, Katrina and the choir members, Michael Burden and those who assisted him in changing the liturgical environment, Religious Education teachers and aids, and teachers of the Word for the Little Ones, for all your dedicated and loving service to the parish. We are indeed blessed with such selfless and loving followers of Christ. Congratulations to Kendall Drake, Aubrey Locklear, Allison Alexander,

Nickolas Bilski, Richard Franz, Bonnie Zelakiewicz, Wendy Wagner, Jodi Williams and Kimberly Mathis who walked the journey and now are fully initiated into the Catholic Church. We pray that you continue to grow deeper in your relationship with Jesus. May Jesus live in all our hearts, that we may always embrace Him with love

and gratitude. And may the Risen Christ bless you and your families abundantly throughout the fifty days of this Easter Season and always.

Rejoice! For He has Risen, Alleluia!

Fr. Socorro and Fr. Henry

Stewardship Thoughts In the First Reading from the Acts

of the Apostles, St. Peter recaps Jesus’ mission: to release us from the devil’s grip through His sacrifice on the cross and His good works — to send forth His missionary disciples to preach the Good News of salvation. In St. John’s Gospel, Mary Magdalene arrives first at the empty tomb on that first Easter morning. She then prompts Peter and John to go there. Scripture tells us that upon their arrival, they discover the burial wrappings. St. John saw and believed. This is the beloved disciple who sat at Jesus’ side at the Last Supper, who bravely stood at the foot of the cross, and who, at Jesus’ request, took our Blessed Mother Mary as his mother. John’s faith allowed him to be one of the first disciples to believe in the Risen Christ. St. Paul, in his letters, illustrates how Christ has been raised up, raising us along with Him. Like St. John, may the gift of Easter grace intensify our faith and deepen our relationship with our Lord so we, too, may boldly profess, Jesus is risen. Alleluia! We are invited to make the risen Christ personal in our lives and then commissioned to spread Jesus’ Good News to everyone we meet. A good place to start is at Alpha or a similar evangelization course at your parish or a neighboring parish.

From Faith Formation

our school chapel at 5pm on

Easter Prayer of Thanksgiving Good and gracious heavenly Father,

we come before you on this Easter Sunday

with full and grateful hearts for the gift of the Paschal Mystery

that you showed us in the life, death, and resurrection

of your Son, our brother by adoption, Jesus Christ.

Bless us and all those who profess

belief in your saving love. Bless also those who have yet to

profess belief in you. You are God for all.

We ask all this in Christ's name.

Looking Ahead to

Vacation Bible School

Our theme this year at VBS is “Super

Heroes of Faith”. Please consider signing up your child or grandchild for this wonderful week of learning about our Super Heroes of Faith. We know you will not be disappointed! We will meet the week of June 18-22 from 9 am—11:30 a.m. in the School Gym. Our VBS teachers Mrs. Joan

Ricotta and Mrs. Amy Davis and their team of helpers look forward to spending the week with your children. For more information please call the Faith Formation Office at 313-532-4394 x101.

An Easter Proclamation The hosts of heaven exult and sing

aloud in mighty triumph! Let the earth be glad as glory alights

and night reigns no more. Let the Church rejoice at the victory

of her Lord and Master, Who paid the debt of Adam,

Who frees those doomed to die, Who heals the broken-hearted and bind up their wounds, Who forgives the sinner and raises up the lowly,

Who destroys death forever, Whose Kingdom shall have no end.

God our Father, eternal is your love for us!

Christ the Son, in victory you reign! Holy Spirit, set the Easter fire ablaze

in our hearts. Together you live and reign and

ransom your people, one God forever and ever.

Amen.

CSA Easter

Easter is a time of great joy, when we are reminded that the Lord walks beside us on our journey of faith. We witness Christ’s living presence

in many ways, such as through our support of our local communion of faith through the Catholic Services Appeal. Our annual CSA supports the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, which brings new members into full communion during the Easter Vigil. The CSA enables us to reveal Christ’s presence not only to our sisters and brothers with whom we share the Eucharist, but also to those who do not know Christ. Gifts to the CSA show that Christ is

present and active in our world. Indeed, He is risen today. Alleluia! For more information about CSA-

funded ministries, programs, and services, please go to www.aod.org.

Make Easter joy last all year The joy of Easter morning is meant

to come more than once a year. “Sunday recalls the day of Christ’s Resurrection. It is Easter which returns week by week, celebrating Christ’s victory over sin and death” (Dies Domini, Pope John Paul II). Spread Easter joy by making every Sunday, “little Easter.” Darkness comes before the

dawn. Atoning for sin isn’t comfortable but it is essential to experiencing the joy of Easter. Make Fridays penitential days in your home. Share meatless meals, fast from television or video games, or perform a family act of charity. Rejoice in second chances.

Jesus knew that while our intentions may be good, our resolve isn’t perfect so he created the Sacrament of Reconciliation. Take your family to Confession at least monthly. When children see that you seek God’s forgiveness, they will learn that it’s there for them, too. Experience the Mass. It’s not

meant to be observed. Preview the readings together before Mass. Sing out loud. Pray responses with feeling. Celebrate the Resurrection with joy.

Easter Blessings The Faith Formation teachers and

staff wish all of our families a blessed Easter. Remember we have no classes on Monday, April 2nd but look forward to seeing all of you on Monday, April 9th!

Alleluia, Christ is Risen!

Passion Play We extend a heartfelt thank you to

our recently Confirmed 8th grade students with the help of our 7th grade students for their beautiful rendition of the Passion Play, “What a Week for Jesus”. May God continue to guide you as you make decisions on which ministries in the church you choose to become involved in.

No Video Presentation Today The Video Series Group will not be

meeting today, April 1, Easter Sunday. We will resume next week.

Easter Sunday The first light of Easter dawn had begun to creep over the horizon. The steadfast women f rom

Friday's gory events are returning again to the body of their Lord. "Who will roll back the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" How quickly we return to mundane concerns and how thoroughly God wants to surprise us! Imagine the utter shock upon seeing the stone rolled away, the tomb empty, and a stranger clothed in light proclaiming the impossible. "You seek Jesus of Nazareth, the crucified. He has been raised; he is not here." He is risen indeed and the world will never be the same. We know from other Gospel

passages that Mary Magdalene made haste to the disciples to proclaim the Good News. We know that Peter and John rushed to the tomb to see for themselves. We know that the wonder and awe of the Resurrection permeated the lives of the apostles until their own dying day. Can we comprehend the utterly

world-changing nature of this surprise? The historical reanimation of a dead man is of no real value to us. But we know that Easter Sunday is so much more. By the Resurrection of Jesus, life has triumphed over death for us all. The gates of heaven are opened and the treasury of graces is poured out upon the here and now. This Resurrection Day, let us draw near, amazed yet unafraid, to the risen Christ. Let us recall the words of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, "Jesus is not a character from the past. He lives, and he walks before us as one who is alive, he calls us to follow him, the living one, and in this way to discover for ourselves the path of life" (Easter Vigil, April 15, 2006).

Thank You! Dear St. Valentine Church, We would like to thank you for your

gracious generosity. Donations to the Prison Ministry helps countless people in need throughout the year. May God continue to bless you all in Jesus’ name.

Sincerely, Dorian Bellinger
