From the Messy Desk of Fr. Rob
Dear Parishioners:
This Sunday we are given the first recorded words of Jesus
found in John’s Gospel. They are not words of exclamation
or pronouncement of His identity, but rather a question of
sincerity and humility. “What are you looking for?”, Jesus
asks as he turns to face two of John the Baptist’s disciples
who were following Him. This brief exchange is important
for two reasons. First, Jesus turns to face the two
disciples
of John to show them His face and to pour His grace upon
them. Second, the question is to examine them about their
intention. We find ourselves in the same position. For
Christ turns toward us in our journey so that He might give
us confidence and hope in following Him. We are asked the
same question each day, “What are we looking for” from
Christ? The answers may change from day to day, week to
week, but Christ is always there to listen to us. And the
re-
ply he gives, “Come and see”, is an invitation to a deeper
union, an intimate friendship with Him. That is, an
invitation
to share in the life of the Holy Trinity. When Jesus ask us
“What are you looking for?”, what will we tell Him? He is
ready and eager to listen.
The Knights of Columbus will be hosting a Novena for Life
beginning this coming Thursday, January 21, and running through
Friday, January 29. More information may be found on the Knights’
Facebook page and the St. Thomas Facebook and Instagram pages. In
addition, the Knights of Columbus will be collecting donations for
the Safe Haven Baby Boxes this coming weekend, January 23 and 24.
Have a Blessed Week! Fr. Rob
This week marks the beginning of our 2nd tri-mester for our
religious education students. Our 2nd graders have been busy this
year preparing for their sacraments via online studies. This online
program, developed by Mrs. McAlarney, is very user friendly and
includes lessons from the series Blessed, as well as videos from
Dynamic Catholic. Our 7th & 8th graders, as well as our
Confirmation students, started their classes last weekend. The
remainder of our students will be work-ing through their packet of
Pflaum Gospel Weeklies. I really love these packets because they
teach the students a little more about the Gospel for that specific
week, all in age-appropriate lessons and activities.
Did you know that you can help support our Youth Group with the
Scrip gift card program? I am sure quite a few of you are aware of
this program, but did you also know that they have an app for your
phone and a website? Our family has been using the app for several
years and we absolutely love it! You have the option of ordering an
e-gift card and using it right then or printing it and giving it to
someone as a gift. You can also order a physical gift card and have
it sent to your home.
