The unfolding flow of our Liturgical cycle continues with the Feast today of the Body and Blood of Christ, “Corpus Christi”. Flowing from our awareness of God as creator and source of all life and love; with Jesus as the incarnation of that love, and with the full revelation of

the Holy Spirit on Pentecost; cele-brating the unity of the Trinity last Sunday and the Trinitarian life we are all called to share through Bap-tism, today we celebrate how that life and love is a flesh and blood reality manifested, lived, and ex-perienced as the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. It is as if the Body and Blood of Christ is assimilated in us through communion, and we, as the

Body of Christ, have the lifeblood of the Holy spirit flowing through us as lifeblood through the cells and veins of our physical bodies. I am sure that is why Fr. Charles took that name when he founded the parish of Corpus Christi after leaving St. Thomas when he went to Carol Stream. He always said he took the spirit of St. Thomas and what he learned and experienced here with him to found the new parish. It is true — the love of God always seeks incarna-tion. And we are the continuing revelation of that incar-nate love of God. What a wonderful sense and identity we have as the Body of Christ, Corpus Christi. So this is really a feast of the Church, of what the great sacrament of the Body and Blood of Christ creates and brings about in us. We are happy to let that great sacrament, which feeds and nourishes us, have it’s effect in us. I love being more and more assimilated into the Body of Christ so that we can say with St. Paul, “no longer I, but Christ living in me”. That is a wonderful transformation. It is what the love of God can do in us if we let it. Jesus only needs our “yes”, our Amen, to the Body and Blood of Christ offered to us. And so we say, mind-ful of the whole Body of Christ, Amen! to that reality. Happy Feast Day, O Body of Christ! and to our sis-ter parish in Carol Stream. Love and prayers, P.S. Happy Father’s Day to all our Dad’s! We remember all our Fathers, living and deceased.

Dear Friends,

“We are the continuing

revelation of (the) incarnate love

of God.”

Worship Commission Peace Mass There will be a “Peace Mass” next Sunday, June 25 at 9 a.m. with prayers for those who suffer from domestic and other types of violence. Our Pax Christi ministry helps to plan these masses three to four times a year. Music Makers Summer Schedule After today, our Big Choir will take a well de-served summer break. They resume singing in Sep-tember, after Labor Day. Many members of the Big Choir also belong to a small music group. Our five small groups (Ensemble, Genesis, Jubilate, Spirit Song, and Sojourners) continue to sing through the summer months. We are so fortunate to have such gifted and dedicated music ministers. A special thanks to all our singers and instrumentalists who give so much of their time and talent throughout the year. They bless us week after week with their spirited singing and music making. Parish Feast Day The liturgical Feast of St. Thomas the Apostle is Monday, July 3. To celebrate our patronal feast we will have an outdoor mass (weather permitting) on Saturday, July 1 at 4:30 p.m. on the Labyrinth. Many people enjoyed this event last year. Consecration “Take this, all of you, and eat it; this is my body which will be given up for you. Take this, all of you, and drink from it,; this is the cup of my blood, the blood of the new and everlasting covenant. It will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be forgiven. Do this in memory of me.” (Eucharistic Prayer) At the heart of the Eucharistic Prayer, the priest says and does what Christ said and did at the Last Supper. The power of Christ’s words and actions, and the power of the Holy Spirit, make present the sacrifice of the cross. The bread appears unchanged, but it is no longer bread; it is the body of Christ. The wine ap-pears unchanged, but it is no longer wine; it is the blood of Christ. The priest shows the consecrated bread or host to the faithful, and after that, he shows the chalice con-taining the blood of Christ. He then cries out: “Let us proclaim the mystery of faith.” All respond with one of several possible acclamations to affirm the real presence of the Lord. A Blessing for Fathers We bless you and we praise you, God of our fathers! You are the God of Adam, father of the human family. You are the God of Abraham, our father in faith who was ready and willing to give up everything to be faithful to you. You are the God of Isaac, who was born of laughter and old age, and the God of Jacob, whose clever trick gained an inheritance for twelve tribes of sons and daughters. You are the God of Jesse, from whose loins a nation sprang, a sturdy family tree of monarchs, prophets and priests. You are the God and Father of Israel, your child whom you love with all your heart. You are the God of Zechariah, who fathered the Baptist and taught him the Torah, and of Joachim, the grandfather of Jesus. You are the God of Joseph, who loved and raised Jesus as his own. You are the God and Father of Jesus, and our Father in heaven, too: Holy is your Name! We thank you, God, for the gift of our fathers, for grandfathers and godfathers and fathers-in-law, too. Send your Holy Spirit upon our fathers, in whose laps we were cradled, on whose knees we were bounced, by whose hands we were fed, instructed, at times corrected, in whose company we learned to work and play and pray, at whose side we hear your word and celebrate your mysteries. Heal their pains and disappointments. Forgive all that needs to be forgiven. Give to them the good that they have given others. Welcome into your arms those who have died. Fill this world, O God, with a father’s love! We ask this your Son Jesus Christ, who taught us to pray to you as Abba. He lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, who is Father of the poor, one God forever and ever. Amen. Faith and Spiritual Formation Commission

C.A.R.E. CORNER

Many religious institutions today are la-menting the fact that their congregations seem to be shrinking. Not as many people attend week-end services anymore. Even in the Catholic church, it is estimated that only about one-third of Catholics attend Mass on any given weekend. Are we losing our desire for God? Apparently not. Many people today report that they are very “spiritual” as opposed to being “religious.” The new buzzword seems to be “spiritual.” But what exactly does that mean? Let’s start with religion. If someone asked about your religion, you would likely respond that you are Catholic. This means you are a member of the Catholic church. Your belief sys-tem in relationship to God falls primarily into those beliefs purported by the Catholic church. You worship within the framework of the Mass. Your views on worldly matters are likely im-pacted by the religious and social teachings of the Catholic church. So, how does being reli-gious differ from being spiritual? Think about it. And visit us here next week for more reflection.

All Are Welcome Survey Results The results from the All Are Welcome Advisory Committee’s survey administered parish wide the week-end of November 12-23, 2005 followed by the mailed in surveys in January have been tabulated. The majority of the surveys indicated the following accommodations are the most used: handicap parking spaces, new faucets in the restrooms, large print song sheets, handicap designated restrooms, and handicap des-ignated spaces in the church were being used. Under the category of possible additional accommo-dations the participants desired, in order, more desig-nated handicap parking, larger toilet stalls, automatic flushing toilets, smoother entranceways and replacing the sidewalks with closer handicap parking. A number of those polled indicated they have physi-cal challenges in the areas of difficulty walking, poor balance, deafness/hard of hearing, difficulty driving at night and poor circulation in arms, legs. Topics the participants want more information about are support groups, spiritual topics for the physically challenged, computer maintenance, adaptive devices, and employment assistance. Most of the responses were from individuals fifty and over, followed by those 26 to 49 years, then 13-25 and 1-12 years.

“Deep within us all there is an amazing inner sanctuary of the soul, a holy place, a Divine Center, a speaking Voice, to which we may continuously return...it is a light within which illuminates the face of God and casts new shadows and glories upon the faces of people around us. It is a seed stirring to life, if we do not choke it. It is the Shekinah of the soul, the Pres-ence in the midst. Here is the Slumbering Christ, stirring to be awakened, to become the soul we clothe in earthly form and action. And the Light is within us all.”

Edited from Testament of Devotion by Thomas Kelly Spring is a time of planting seed in anticipation of a bountiful harvest. During Lent, we planted seeds of ser-vice, sacrifice and harmony as we followed the example of Jesus. We were also optimistic that this planting sea-son would bear good fruit for us and for the world. The

voice within calls us out of ourselves and the light within illuminates our way. Are you listening to the murmur of

your inner voice? Can you see the glory on the faces around you? Will you let your Slumbering Christ awaken

and take you on a journey?

Haiti Immersion Program — Students from All Saints Academy received an introduction to Haitian food, music, art and language, as well as insights, into village life in Duchity through a program presented by the Twinning Committee in cooperation with Academy Principal Sandy Renehan and her staff. The program included Mass, presided by Father Joel, who also spoke to the students about life in Haiti. During the three-hour program, nine classes visited various stations to learn about such topics as medical needs and school life in Duchity and were exposed to numerous aspects of Haitian culture. As part of a continuing relationship, classrooms at the Academy have sent a letter to a counterpart classrooms in Duchity. The hope is that the relation-ship will continue over the years. Health Care — The Twinning Committee has com-pleted arrangements to provide a continuing medical presence in Duchity by contracting for the services of a doctor who would receive a salary and medical supplies. Church Realization — The Twinning Committee has made the completion of a new church building at Ste. Marie-Madeleine a top priority. At present, committee members are reviewing bids on construc-tion of the next phase of the project. Ste. Marie-Madeleine has grants to cover a portion of the cost. The committee’s capital fund has additional funds available, but donors have designated most of this money for specific church items, such as statuary. The committee is currently exploring with donors the possibility of using some of this money for construc-tion, with the understanding that future funds would be used for the original purposes. Clean Water and Hydroelectric Power — John Ball is working to secure support from Rotary District 6450 for improvement of Duchity water supplies and the construction of a hydroelectric power plant. Duchity Orphanage — A St. Thomas Parish family made a very generous donation to Ertha Papillon to build an orphanage for the 25 children under her care. She now has enough funds to build the orphanage and provide beds and other furnishings.
