Dear Parishioners and Community of St Simon: One of the initiatives recommended by our Bishop is that we participate in “Creating a Culture of Vocations.”
Bishop Cantú suggests that this project begins with us, and especially with our families. All Parishes and Schools have been presented with a Crucifix made specifically for this program. By encouraging our families to pray together and dialogue about our faith, our hope is that younger generations will open their hearts and minds to God’s plan for them and for the Church.
The Crucifix is to be passed on from family to family in each parish and classroom to classroom at our school on a weekly basis. It may be presented to the new family or classroom every week and is intended to provide an opportunity to keep the topic of vocations front and center. Every family has the option to choose the prayer that fits best for them; it could be a Rosary, the Gospel of the day, a novena, etc. Most importantly to dedicate time for a dialog.
Our parish community will commence our participation in this endeavor to coincide with National Vocations Awareness week.
How will we do this? At our parish each week starting November 2/3, we are asking a family to take the “traveling vocations prayer box," set it on the dining room table, coffee table or prayer table and use it daily to dialog and pray about vocations. We will rotate each week as follows: 1st week – Sat., November 2 host family at the 5:00pm Mass- returns Sat., November 9 at the 5:00pm Mass 2nd week - Sun. 7:30am Mass - returns the following Sun. 7:30am Mass 3rd week - Sun. 9:00am Mass - returns the following Sun. 9:00am Mass 4th week - Sun. 11:15am Mass - returns the following Sun. 11:15am Mass 5th week - Sun. 5:00pm Mass need to return anytime Friday/Saturday - before the Sat. 5:00pm Mass . . .
Aside from the Crucifix the vocations prayer box will also include prayer cards, a travelling journal should you wish to share experiences and other suggestions. Interested families may contact Sr. Mary Han 650-967-8311 x32 or [email protected] to be the host family.
With blessings and thanks, Fr. Warwick Heavenly Father, your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His vineyard.
We earnestly beg You to bless our parishes, our schools, and our diocese with many more priests, religious, and lay faithful who will know you intimately, love you fervently, and serve you joyfully through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. We pray that you continuously call our young people to a living encounter with your Son in the Word and Eucharist, that they might be made worthy ministers of your Holy Catholic Church.
Strengthen them with the support of their parents, teachers, and friends on earth and all the angels and saints in heaven. May the ever-Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church, intercede for us that we might listen to the Word and act on it.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
St. Joseph, Patron of our Diocese, pray for us!
