OUR ‘PIUS’ IRISH SMILE
An Irish couple, whose married bliss was not without a few
squalls, received a homely lecture from their spiritual advisor
regarding their disgraceful quarrels. ‘Why, the dog and cat you
have agree better than you.’ The reply somewhat upset him:
If your reverence’ll tie them together, you’ll soon change yer
mind.
An Irish farmer claimed:A man in the professions can never lose.
A lawyer is paid – win or lose. A doctor is paid –kill or cure. A
priest is paid – heaven or hell.

SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT ...
“At the end of the day,we must go forward with hope
and not backward by fear and division.” Jesse Jackson
SAINTS SPEAK
“The person who does not live every day with his or her death
does not live at all, and does not know what the fullness of life
is! This is where we experience how this accepted humility is the
foundation of life. . . Christ has transformed death into the great
initiator of life.” Alphonse and Rachel Goettman, Prayer of Jesus,
Prayer of the Heart
“It is chiefly by asking questions and in provoking explanations
that the master must open the mind of the pupil, make him work, and
use his thinking powers, form his judgement, and make him find out
for himself the answer.” St. Jean Baptiste de La Salle, 1651-1719,
French Educational Reformer

DE MELLO FOR KIDSOF ALL AGES
Jesus As a Boy
Jesus was God’s Son, so you’d think
he’d be super smart and super
strong. But Jesus was also a
person, just like you. Maybe he
had freckles or hair that stuck up
in funny places. Maybe he was shy
or liked to read. We don’t know much about
Jesus’ life as a child. But we do know he had to
listen to his parents, learn how to get along with
others, and do all the other things kids have to do.
If you feel alone sometimes, remember that Jesus
knows what it’s like to be a kid. After all, he was
young once too.
Jesus was young like me for a while.
He knows what it’s like to be a child.
FAITH FORMATION FOR FAMILIES
This is a reminder to all parents to try out the following two
resources for the summer months.
Living Faith - www.rcsj.orgA resource published by and for our
Archdiocese. Now that there are no print copies available, it has
gone completely digital. Now that the editors are not bound by
outside deadlines, the materials, resources and ideas are more
current and relevant to what is happening at home and around the
world.
Sunday Connection www.loyolapress.com/catholic-resources/liturgi
cal-year/sunday-connectionA Jesuit resource for the family. Each
edition begins with the Sunday Gospel reading, a reflection for
adults, and age appropriate questions/activities for children.

FR. ADAM HINKS, SJ
Newly ordained Fr. Hinks will be the first holder of the Sutton
Family Chair in Science, Christianity and Cultures at St. Michael’s
College, Toronto. He is an astrophysicist and has worked at the
Vatican Observatory. His interest is in the intersection between
science and theology: science describes how the universe functions,
and theology explains why human beings exist and where we are
heading. Fr. Hinks is a member of the Canada Province of the
Society of Jesus. Two other Canadian Jesuits also are scientists,
Fr. John McCarthy, SJ (Ecology, Sudbury, ON) and Fr. Rob Allore, SJ
(Genetics, Vancouver, BC). All three priests are doctors in their
field of expertise.

THE EXAMEN:A DAILY PRAYER
St. Ignatius Loyola's Examen is an opportunity for peaceful
daily reflective prayer. It invites us to find the movement of God
in all the people and events of our day. The Examen is simply a set
of introspective prompts for you to follow or adapt to your own
character and spirit.
This week you are invited to an Examen from the perspective of
“In the Moment”.
IN THE MOMENT
What was happening today that moved me spiritually and why?
When did I most embrace or live in the moment today?
Did I learn something today that might assist me in better
serving others?
What am I grateful for today?
What is the world asking of me?
