FATHER LEDOUX’S PRAYER INTENTIONS FOR SEPTEMBER WORSHIP: As a community of faith, may we actively contemplate the Exaltation of the Holy Cross of Jesus Christ within the mystery of

the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass through the intercession of Our Lady of Sorrows. FAITH FORMATION: At the start of this Catechism year we pray for the Parents and Youth of our Parish Faith Formation program. May

this year be a fruitful one that binds parent and child closer to each other and to the Heart of Christ and His Church. EVANGELIZATION: May the women journeying together in the ‘Women of Grace’ study program find spiritual, emotional and

mental nurturing as they seek to embrace the gift of authentic femininity, spiritual motherhood, and dignity as daughters of God. SOCIAL JUSTICE: For our Christian brothers and sisters and other innocent victims striving to survive, protect their children and live with

dignity amidst the ongoing violence in Iraq, Syria and Gaza and throughout the Middle East, the cradle of Christianity, who urgently need the prayerful assistance of the Catholic community. BUILDINGS AND FACILITIES: Through parishioner participation at the scheduled “Listening Sessions” may our parish leadership

teams be informed and guided in considering all aspects of the present and future needs of our parish.

ST. PIO OF PIETRELCINA

Feast September 23rd Padre Pio was born Francesco Forgione on May 25, 1887, in

Pietrelcina, Italy, into a simple peasant family. At the age of 15 he entered the Capuchin Franciscan Friars, and was ordained a priest in 1910. In September 1916 he was assigned to the Friary in San Giovanni Rotondo in central italy, where he lived for the rest of his life. After celebrating morning Mass on September 20, 1918, during his prayers of thanksgiving before the Crucifix, Padre Pio received the "Stigmata". His hands, feet and side were pierced with the nail marks and the lance wound of the Crucified Christ. Doctors estimated that for the next 50 years he lost a cup of blood every day. His five wounds were deep, bleeding and painful, but completely free of inflammation and swelling. News of his holiness spread rapidly. Millions of people attended his Masses. He received letters from believers all over the world who asked for his saintly counsel. Countless were attracted to his confessional, where he celebrated the Sacrament of Penance for as many as 16 hours a day. People waited as much as two weeks to have him hear their confession. His whole life was marked by long hours of prayer, continual sacrifice, and strict austerity. He had a very deep union with God, a burning love for the Holy Eucharist, and a fervent devotion to Our Blessed Mother. Worn out by half a century of intense suffering and constant apostolic activity in San Giovanni Rotondo, Padre Pio was called to his heavenly reward on September 23, 1968. He was canonized a Saint by Pope John Paul II on June 16, 2002. Today his tomb is the most visited shrine in Europe, surpassing even Fatima and Lourdes. Excerpted from www.catholicculture.org

PRAYER FOR SAINT PIO'S INTERCESSION

Gracious God, You generously blessed Your servant, Padre Pio, with the gifts of the Spirit. You marked his body with the five wounds of Christ Crucified, as a powerful witness to the saving Passion and Death of Your Son, and as a stirring inspiration to many people of Your infinite mercy, forgiveness and love. In the confessional, Padre Pio labored endlessly for the salvation of souls. Through his prayerful intercession, many who suffered were healed of sickness and disease. Endowed with the gift of discernment, he could read people's hearts. From the blood of his wounds came a perfumed fragrance, a special sign of Your Holy Presence. With dignity and intense devotion, he celebrated daily Mass, inviting countless men and women to a greater union with Jesus Christ, in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist. Through the intercession of Saint Pio, I confidently beseech You to grant me the grace of (here state your petition). Help me to imitate his example of prayerful holiness and compassion, so that I, too, may faithfully follow the Risen Lord, and one day rejoice in the Kingdom, where You live and reign forever and ever. Amen. Prayer Source: Saint Pio of Pietrelcina by Capuchin Franciscan Friars, Capuchin Franciscan Friars, 2003

THESE ARE EXCITING TIMES

AT ST. PETER PARISH!

Celebrating our Heritage, Preserving our Future There comes a time in every parish, where the future must be examined

in order for the mission to come fully alive. For St. Peter Parish, now is that time!

Fr. Ledoux and the Steering Committee are grateful to all of our parishioners who attended the Listening Sessions and the Town Hall Meeting to learn about the Master Plan proposal for repairs and upgrades to our parish facilities. Thank you for your input, ideas and suggestions.

PLEASE PARTICIPATE IN THIS SURVEY.

NOW IS THE TIME! WE NEED TO HEAR FROM YOU!

“JESUS, I TRUST IN YOU”

Jesus to St. Faustina: "Write, speak of My mercy. Tell souls where they are to look for solace; that is, in the Tribunal of Mercy [the Sacrament of Reconciliation]. There the greatest miracles take place [and] are incessantly repeated. To avail oneself of

this miracle, it is not necessary to go on a great pilgrimage or to carry out some external ceremony; it suffices to come with faith to the feet of My representative and to reveal to him one's misery, and the miracle of Divine Mercy will be fully demonstrated. Were a soul like a decaying corpse so that from a human standpoint, there would be no [hope of] restoration and everything would already be lost, it is not so with God. The miracle of Divine Mercy restores that soul in full. Oh, how miserable are those who do not take advantage of the miracle of God's mercy! You will call out in vain, but it will be too late." (Diary, 1448)

Scripture

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the LORD (Isaiah 55:6)

The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, (Psalm 245:18)

For to me life is Christ, and death is gain. (Philippians 1:21)

Thus, the last will be first, and the first will be last.” (Matthew 20:16)

Seek the LORD while He may be found, call Him while He is near. (Isaiah 55:9)

Reflection Is your goal in seeking God to find what you expect to

find? Why do you seek Jesus? What are you looking for? How may death be “gain?” Where is your journey

taking you? When is God near? How do you “call upon” God?

“O God,” I said, and that was all. But what are the prayers of the whole universe more than an expansion of that one cry? It is not what God can give us, but God that we want. PRAYER FOR OUR TROOPS

Almighty and eternal God, those who take refuge in You will be glad and forever will shout for joy. Protect these soldiers as they discharge their duties. Protect them with the shield of Your strength and keep them safe from all evil and harm. May the power of Your love enable them to return home in safety, that with all

who love them, they may ever praise You for Your loving care. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

“The promotion of the practice of stewardship is important for the mission of the Church and for the spiritual well-being of each individual Christian. Everyone benefits from the sacrificial gift one makes of his time, talent, and treasure.” ~Pope Benedict XVI

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROUS DONATIONS AND STEWARDSHIP! BECAUSE OF YOUR GENEROUS SUPPORT, WE HAVE A WONDERFUL

PLACE OF WORSHIP.

A STEWARDSHIP MOMENT From an early age, we tend to distort the concept of “fairness”: “I am good. I deserve good things. I am not receiving good things?” Something must be wrong. Who’s going to fix it?” We also know the age-old expression: “Who ever said life was fair?” Jesus knew this expression when He offered His parable in today’s Gospel reading. Christian stewards acknowledge, with humility, that they receive good things from the Lord in abundance; even if these gifts are not the ones they think they need when they need them. Consider which servants you identify with most in the Gospel reading, the ones who demand “fairness”, or that at final servant who, seemingly, deserves the least.

ROSARY FOR PEACE

The Rosary for peace for our country and our soldiers will be prayed every Thursday before 6:30 a.m. Mass.

PRAY FOR A PRIEST EACH DAY!

For the week of September 22nd – September 28th: September 22 Rev. Gayle Nunez September 23 Rev. Anselm Ofodum September 24 Rev. John O’Hallaran, SSJ September 25 Rev. Paul Onuegbe September 26 Rev. Paul Osterle, SJ September 27 Rev. Anthony Ostini, SJ September 28 Rev. Jose Padinjarepeedika, CMI

Eternal Father, we lift up to You these and all the priests of the world. Sanctify them. Heal and guide them. Mold them into the likeness of Your Son, Jesus, the Eternal High Priest. May their lives be pleasing to You. In Jesus’’ name we pray. Amen.
