People: Let us praise the faithfulness of the Lord!
Pastor: For just as the Lord's greatness fills the heavens,
People: The Lord's love embraces the earth,
Pastor: Preserving our life in the midst of trouble.
ALL: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God! Amen!
OPENING HYMN NO. 56………………………………………………….“Sing Praise to God Who Reigns Above”
Sing praise to God who reigns above, the God of all creation,
the God of power, the God of love, the God of our salvation.
My soul with comfort rich he fills, and every grief he gently stills: to God all praise and glory!
What God’s almighty power has made, in mercy he is keeping;
by morning glow or evening shade his eye is never sleeping.
And where he rules in kingly might, there all is just and all is right: to God all praise and glory!
3
We sought the Lord in our distress; O God, in mercy hear us.
Our Savior saw our helplessness and came with peace to cheer us.
For this we thank and praise the Lord, who is by one and all adored: to God all praise and glory!
Let all who name Christ’s holy name give God the praise and glory.
Let all who know his power proclaim aloud the wondrous story.
Cast every idol from its throne; the Lord is God, and he alone: to God all praise and glory!
CALL TO CONFESSION
CONFESSION OF SIN (Unison)
Gracious God, we often forget that you are the ruler of our lives. Instead, we turn our attention elsewhere.
We want what others have. We allow the concerns of the world to weigh us down. We become distracted
by the activities around us. We forget to keep our focus on you. Forgive us. Strengthen our faith, that we
may see your presence in our lives. Remind us again that you are the Lord of our lives—the one who loves
us completely, the one who offers us abundant forgiveness, the one who never leaves our side. In your holy
name we pray. Amen.
MOMENT OF PERSONAL CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF PARDON

In the name of God, whose love endures forever, you are forgiven.

RESPONDING TO THE WORD
The congregation may remain seated.
HYMN OF REFLECTION NO. 419……………………………………………………..“My Faith Looks Up to Thee”
My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine!
Now hear me while I pray, take all my guilt away;
O let me from this day be wholly Thine!
May Thy rich grace impart
strength to my fainting heart, my zeal inspire;
as Thou hast died for me, O may my love to Thee,
pure, warm, and changeless be, a living fire!
While life’s dark maze I tread,
and griefs around me spread, be Thou my guide;
bid darkness turn to day, wipe sorrow’s tears away,
nor let me ever stray from Thee aside.
When ends life’s transient dream,
when death’s cold, sullen stream o’er me roll;
blest Savior, then, in love, fear and distrust remove;
O bear me safe above, a ransomed soul!
The congregation may stand.
AFFIRMATION OF FAITH (Unison) ....................................................................………………..The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth:
And in Jesus Christ his only Son, our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost,
born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried;
he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven,
and sitteth at the right hand of God the Father Almighty;
from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins;
the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
The congregation may be seated.
PASTORAL PRAYER……………………………………………………………………………“A Scout is Reverent”
Pastor: God be with you.
People: And also with you.
Pastor: O God, because we have failed in the trust others placed in us, we pray for forgiveness and renewal to be
trustworthy. For strength to be loyal to our calling in baptism as disciples in the world. God in your
mercy...
People: Hear our prayer.
Pastor: For the spirit to be friendly to all people and even those who are unfriendly to us. For the gift of courtesy
to all people, but especially to the elderly, the disabled and little children. God in your mercy...
People: Hear our prayer.
Pastor: For a heart that rejoices in being kind to people, to animals and to the earth. For the will to discipline
ourselves, to answer God’s call rather than our selfish desires. God in your mercy...
People: Hear our prayer.
Pastor: For a cheerful spirit to see us through disappointing events and for a faith that believes God will good,
even when events cause us pain and sadness. For an appreciation that all that we have is a gift, for a mind
and a heart that will be thrifty in managing the resources that God has entrusted to our care. God in your
mercy...
People: Hear our prayer.
5
Pastor: For the courage not to be afraid of doing what is right and to be brave in working for justice. For the will
to work to keep clean our minds, our hearts, and for the gift of reverence for God, who values all of
creation. God in your mercy...
People: Hear our prayer.
SILENT PRAYER
