Why is it taking so long? Do those words sound familiar? They remind me of every family trip we took when I was a child. Were you as impatient as I was? Why can’t we just BE THERE! You can keep your jet pack; I wanted the transporter from Star Trek. I wanted to get from point A to point B, with no boring travel in-between. There are still times when I wish for that transporter. When I’m in a hurry, or running late, it would be much safer than speeding along in the car, with one eye on the road and one eye on the rear-view mirror watch- ing for the flashing lights. And then there are those difficult times in life, trying to cope with the loss, or illness. Oh, how much easier life would be if we could just transport through the pain, the uncertainty and the un- knowing and reach the resolution. But, when we focus on just getting from point A to point B we miss the journey in-between, and that’s where all the adventures are! As a congregation we are on our own in-between journey. It would be so easy to get anxious and want to hurry through things -- why do we have to answer all these questions and do all this work? Why can’t we just hire a new pastor and be done with it? But ministry is not about the destination, it is about the journey of faith. It is all those roadblocks and side paths and detours that really help us to discover who we are and who God is in our lives. And answering all those questions is giving us insight into our con- gregation. At the most recent Transition Team meeting we started going through the answers to all those questions that were asked of the various committees. Of the 17 pages of information that was gathered, we only made it through the first seven. We found so much good and helpful information that we wanted to share with the whole congregation. We are working now to get that information into a format that will be most helpful for eve- ryone to use, so be watching for it. Continued on next page………..

FELLOWSHIP COMMITTEE
The Fellowship Committee hosted ‘‘Oh, The Places You Will Go’ on March 3rd which was an
event to celebrate Dr. Seuss. We listened to his famous book. The people who joined us at this
event enjoyed remembering the places they’ve traveled to in the past and places they would like to
travel in our country and in other countries. Colorful tables with quotes from the book as well as
colorful cereal to snack on made Fellowship hall very festive.
We ate bright red and yellow pepper quiche and a green spinach quiche served with a colorful fruit
salad. The dessert cake was a wonderful display of the crazy crooked cake from the book. Most
people dressed up in various props from around the world and made their way into the hot air bal-
loon. We have great pictures of everyone, as they were about to lift off.
Our ‘Take Me Out to The Ball Game’ is scheduled for May 5, 2019. Be sure to join us as it is
our last Sunday fellowship time for a few months.
Our summer months will be spent relaxing and brainstorming for our new events beginning in
September. Anyone interested in joining the planning committee is welcome to attend the meet-
ings. They are held on the third Monday of the month at 6:30PM,, throughout the school year.
Why Go To Church?
A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of as newspaper and complained that it made no sense to
go to church every Sunday. “I’ve gone for 30 years now,” he wrote, “and in that time I have heard
something like 3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can’t remember a single one of them. So, I
think I’m wasting my time and the preachers are wasting theirs by giving sermons at all.”
This started a real controversy in the “Letters to the Editor” column, much to the delight of the
editor. It went on for weeks until someone wrote this clincher:
“I’ve been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked some 32,000 meals. But, for
the life of me, I cannot recall the entire menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this.
They all nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife had not given
me these meals, I would be physically dead today.
Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be spiritually dead today!”
When you are DOWN to nothing…..GOD is UP to something!
Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and receives the impossible!
Thank GOD for our physical AND our spiritual nourishment!
St. Paul’s in Action
It has been several months since the holiday bazaar but the Women’s Guild wanted to let you
know how some of the funds that were raised at the bazaar were used.
It was decided before the bazaar that the money raised at the white elephant and book tables
would go toward helping the victims of the summer floods that hit Schuylkill County. Over $200
was raised at these tables and the Guild added additional funds to make the amount donated $500.
This was done through the Schuylkill Association and the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference’s
Disaster Ministries.
The Missions Committee also decided to help with the flood relief and it was decided that the do-
nations from their February community dinner would also go toward this effort. It was also de-
cided that there would be a joyful noise collection which was done in February. The Women’s
Guild then matched what was collected at the dinner and the joyful noise offering and in early
March another check, this time for $622, was sent to the Schuylkill Association.
The following communication was received from the Rev. Karl Jones who is the Disaster Minis-
tries Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Southeast Conference:
Please let the members of St. Paul’s know that because of their gen-erosity they have provided heat and hot water to people who have suffered through the winter without those necessities. The Schuylkill Association Disaster Fund has done a remarkable job in using the funds that have been contributed to provide for furnaces, hot water heaters, and other appliances so that people can be safe, secure, sanitary, and warm. Your gifts have also helped the Disaster Fund qualify for an additional $10,000 grant from the national UCC Disaster Ministries. You are making a difference in the lives of countless peo-ple. Thank you very much!
