Page 1 ST. PAUL’S UCC NEWSLETTER NOVEMBER 2015 103 South Second Street Marthasville, MO 63357 (636) 433-2482 [email protected]www.stpaulsuccmo.org Seeking to Know, Grow In, and Show the Ways of Jesus Letter from the Pastor I am really getting excited about some new opportunities for ministry and mission at St. Paul's UCC. The first is the opportunity we have to become a part of a rotation for the Thanksgiving Eve worship. This year, the Thanksgiving worship will be on Wednesday, November 25th, at Immanuel, Holstein. The worship begins at 7 p.m. The Rev. Sharon Maddox, the newly called Chaplain for Emmaus, Marthasville, will be the guest preacher. Everyone attending is asked to bring a food item for the Marthasville Food Pantry. I am thrilled that we are a part of this inter-church event. I am also thrilled that in a subsequent year, we will have our chance to host the worship service. I love it when the wider community and communion come to St. Paul's UCC. We have so much to offer and share. We have a beautiful sanctuary, large enough to hold everyone. We have great musical talent to enrich the worship. We have a warm and comfortable Fellowship Hall for the cookies and coffee afterwards. Most of all, however, we have a congregation that is welcoming and hospitable to all. So, Holstein this year, and perhaps in 2016--Thanksgiving Eve at St. Paul's. I am also excited about the opportunities we have to stay connected to the Emmaus Home and their clients. I hope that the Emmaus Chaplain's idea to have a VBS at St. Paul's for the residents of Emmaus materializes. I can imagine us helping with snacks, crafts, and maybe even music and a story time. We have had such a long tradition with the Emmaus Home that I see this as one way of bringing that relationship into the future. The other opportunity we have is to host the work groups that traditionally come to spend a week at the Emmaus campus in order to help with the residents, do small projects around the grounds, or needed repairs in the houses. These are usually church groups of youth and their chaperones who are looking for a mission experience. The groups used to be housed on campus, but since the building they stayed in is being closed, the coordinator of these workgroups is looking for churches to help host. We are perfectly located and situated to be a host church. Of course we would have to spruce up and fix up the parsonage bathrooms. The kitchen may need some work as well, but if we can do that, I feel we will be using our parsonage in ways that serve God, honor our heritage, and help the wider church community. As you can tell, I am excited about these new opportunities that are knocking at our door. I am also convinced that through these opportunities God is calling us to renewed forms of ministry and mission. What that means to me is that God has a future in store for us. Those future plans are good news, indeed. Many Blessings, Pastor Donna
