Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Blest Art will be visiting your parish on behalf of the Christian families in Bethlehem, Palestine. Our mission is to support those families in the Holy Land. When Blest Art visits your parish, we will have hand-carved nativity sets, statues, crosses, rosaries, and many other pieces of

beautiful olive wood art. We gladly accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards. Please visit our display at your parish this Saturday or Sunday May 5 and 6, after each Mass.

Fr. John’s Notes Sixth Sunday of Easter Last week the word “remain” was repeated over and over in the second reading and the Gospel. This week the word is ‘love.” In both his first letter and his Gospel, John writes “love one another.” It is a command to all Jesus’ disciples, from the apostles at the Last Supper to all of us gathered around the table of the Lord today. To love each other as we are loved by God is what we are called to do.

“Mary, Teacher of Spiritual Life” The month of May is here. During this time we don’t just honor Mary as the Mother of God, but we also look to her as the model of Christian life. The following reading from the Apostolic Exhortation of Pope Paul VI on Marian Worship can be a source of inspiration

for us during May. Mary is not only an example for the whole Church in the exercise of divine worship but is also clearly, a teacher of the spiritual life for individual Christians. The faithful at the very early date began to look to Mary and to imitate her in making their lives an act of worship of God and making their worship a commitment of their lives. As early as the fourth century, Saint Ambrose, speaking to people, expressed the hope that each of them would have the spirit of Mary in order to glorify God: “May the heart of Mary be in each Christian to proclaim the greatness of the Lord; may her spirit be in everyone to exult in God.” But Mary is above all the example of that worship that consists in making one’s life an offering to God. This is an ancient and ever new doctrine that each individual can hear again by heeding the Church’s teaching, but also by heeding the very voice of the Virgin as she, anticipating in herself the wonderful petition in the Lord’s Prayer- “Your will be done” (Mt 6:10)-replied to God’s messenger: “I am the handmaid of the Lord. Let what you have said be done to me” (Lk 1:38). And Mary’s “yes” is for all Christians a lesson and example of obedience to the will of the Father, which is the way and means of one’s own sanctification. -Apostolic Exhortation Marialis cultus, Pope Paul VI (February 2, 1974). No. 21, “Mary Teacher of the Spiritual Life”

CCW's Library The CCW's library is filled with books, CD's, and DVD's of various topics. They include stories honoring Mary and the saints, topics for teen's and young adults, and stories of conversion to name a few. It's easy to find an uplifting story that will increase your knowledge and deepen your love for Jesus. Simply fill out the card and place it in the box, and enjoy some inspirational reading.

Reflection “This is my commandment: love one another as I love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life for one’s friends” – JOHN 15:12-13 Do you love Jesus? Do you consider Him your friend? Jesus says that if we love Him we would be willing to offer whatever we have to Him, not because we want praise and glory, but simply because we love Him. Does your giving seem mechanical out of obligation or do you share freely out of love?

St. Charles School News Ms. Makovec and Mrs. Brinkman are taking the 5th and 6th graders to Camp Gray for team and faith

building this week. We finished testing our students on the STAR test in math and reading achievement. 80% of our students scored in the upper 75% percentile of students nationwide in those subjects. The ACRE test of Catholic religious knowledge showed similar results this year. We are proud of the academic achievement of our students. Registration for the 2018-19 school year is open. Stop by the school if you would like your child to have an excellent Catholic education. Our 8th grade graduation will be held on May 22, at 7:00 p.m. Next year will be our 125th year of Catholic education in Cassville, stay tuned for more news on this special celebration.
