PALM SUNDAY MARCH 25, 2018
As we enter Holy Week, we are concluding our Lenten homily series on the seven deadly wounds. The seven deadly wounds are abandonment, fear, confusion, rejection, powerlessness, shame, and hopelessness. These seven deadly wounds can lead us to the seven deadly sins when we seek to medicate our wounds with sin rather than God. You can go to www.stmartindp.org/lenten-study-2018 to view .pdfs of the daily reflections. This week we reflect on the deadly wound of hopelessness. Dr. Ed Smith says words that indicate the deadly wound of hopelessness are, “It’s never going to change and there is no hope”. (Dr. Ed Smith, Beyond Tolerable Recovery, Appendix). This wound can lead us into any of the seven deadly sins. For example, if we don’t feel anything is going to change then we can fall into sloth where we only do what makes us comfortable. Palm Sunday has an entrance gospel that describes when Jesus enters Jerusalem and a Passion Narrative when we would normally proclaim the Gospel. The Gospel detailing Jesus’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem is one of great hope. The Messiah has triumphantly entered the city of Jerusalem and will deliver his people from their suffering. This hope quickly changes to hopelessness during the Passion Narratives as the people saw their messiah suffer and die. The prophecy of the Messiah coming to save his people had given many hope but now it seems like nothing will ever change and there is no hope. During Holy Week we are invited to walk into those places of our lives where we feel there will be no change and there is no hope. By going to these places rather than running from them, we will experience the triumph of Christ on Easter. I want to update you on our parish Building Project for the St. Dymphna Center.
1. On February 20th the Dripping Springs City Council approved our Wasterwater Service and Fee Agreement. This will allow us to proceed to the next step in the process of connecting to the city sewer system. I am grateful to all the parishioners who showed up to support us during that vote at City Hall.
2. On March 6th our Site Development Permit was approved by the City of Dripping Springs. We then gave our Construction Manager at Risk, NAVCON Group LLC, the notice to proceed with the site work for the St. Dymphna Center.
3. NAVCON hopes to begin the site work process in late March. Once site work begins we will lose access to the road by the dumpster that connects the church parking lot to the Parish ED Center and Parish Office. The ED Center and Parish Office will only be accessible via the RR 12 driveway at that point.
4. We are still in the process of getting our Building Permit from the City of Dripping Springs. I am grateful to Michael Monaghan, Building Committee Head, and Claycomb Associates Inc., our architects, for their assistance in this process. I will update you once we have the Building Permit.
Jesus help us go to you when we struggle with hopelessness, Fr. Charlie

We also participate as lay leaders who work closely with parish ministry leadership in implementing our evangelization plan. We have two vacancies which need to be filled to replace outgoing members Steve Fournier and Patrick Manning. The membership term is a 3-year term. The incumbent members are Susan Bonner - Chairperson, Chery Lutz - Recorder, Angie Reynolds, Dan Wierzbowski, Steve Fournier, and Patrick Manning.
There will be a Discernment Event held on Tuesday, April 10th at 7:00pm in the Education Building Conference Room for any parishioner interested in becoming a member of the Pastoral Council team. During Lent, through your gifts, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul was able to bring the mercy of Jesus into the hearts of the poor, by assisting families, providing food, utility and rent bills.
Our next meeting will be Tuesday, March 27th at 7:00pm in the Ed Center.
Food Pantry Needs: Rotel Tomatoes, Canned or Packaged Tuna and Chicken, Chili, Soups, Canned Peaches, Cheese/Peanut Butter Crackers and Granola Bars.
From the Sidewalks of Austin
Around the globe, 40 Days for Life volunteers have reported that 247 abortion minded mothers have chosen life because of our prayers in front of the abortion facilities during this Lenten Vigil. That’s 247 innocent little lives saved from a cruel death, and 247 mothers spared a lifetime of regret! Here in Austin, we have 3 of those confirmed saves. Here is one of the stories: “We were praying in front of Whole Women’s Health today and a teenage girl, a boy, and her mom walked in. I immediately felt the need to reach out to her somehow, but I’m not a trained sidewalk counselor so I usually just pray, pray, pray. She went into the clinic and I kept thinking maybe she will turn around and come back out. A few minutes later she did!! We started waving at them, smiling and we showed them the sign for a free ultrasound. They were able to walk over to the Agape Pregnancy Resource Center bus parked across the street and she chose life for her baby today!!!”
