My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the most Blessed Sacrament.

I love You above all things. And I desire to receive You into my soul.

Since I cannot now receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart.

I embrace You as if You were already there, And unite myself wholly to You.

Never Permit me to be separated from you. Amen

Pastor’s Homily Dear Friends and Fellow Parishioners: Today we reflect one of the two great revelations about God which have come to us as a direct result of the out-pouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. The Holy Trinity. The other revelation is the Blessed Sacrament, the Eucharist, upon which we will reflect next Sunday. You see, the whole event of the life, death, and Resurrection of Jesus is God’s “coming out” to us – God’s deep-er revelation of Who God actually Is. Before Jesus could be born, it was first essential that there was at least some peo-ple on earth who had it absolutely clear in their minds and hearts that there is only one God. The whole history of Israel is the struggle for absolute clarity on this one point. If the mystery of the Trinity were revealed without this prior history, we would completely-wrongly end up believing in three gods, instead of the One God. On the day of Pentecost, for those present, the missing piece of the puzzle of who Jesus is finally fell into place. After they were filled with the Holy Spirit, they could say to each other that God not only planned to SEND the Messiah. God BECAME the Messiah. Jesus Christ is the Lord God of Israel incarnate. If we ever wondered what God would be like if God became one of us, we now know in Jesus. Jesus is the face of God. The apostles were so convinced of this that they joyously proclaimed it to anyone will-ing to listen on Pentecost – many of them fellow-Jews- absolute monotheists on their way to or from the temple of the one God. So to hear fellow-Jews proclaiming Jesus to be that one God incarnate would have sounded to them like blas-phemy if they were trying to make logical sense out of what they were hearing. Instead, the Spirit was like a blessed con-tagion, which spread in the hearing. The listeners were filled with the same Spirit that had filled the disciples that day! And now they too believed that Jesus Christ is Lord. It must be admitted at this point that they would have had some difficulty explaining to monotheists how Jesus, who prayed to his Father all the time and who gave us the Our Father as a prayer to say with him, could also be identical with this same Father. They also knew the Spirit to be divine, because they had personally experienced the personal transformation in themselves which took place in them when they were “zapped” by God’s Holy Spirit. In their hearts and in their minds, they knew these things to be true. But they were at a loss in the first place to explain how they could all be true at the same time – One God in Three Divine Persons. Eventually, apparently, the mystery of love gave them an insight. Love IS a mystery. We know that it happens every day. The ability for love, friendship, unity, community are all in our spiritual DNA. HOW is it that people are drawn together in this way? Because we are creatures who are naturally behaving in imitation of our Creator God who IS this mystery. God is the reality: we MIRROR the reality The apostles were able to recall that, whenever Jesus spoke about the union of a man and a woman in marriage, he regularly cited the same passage from Genesis: “…a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become one body.” Now we know that this passage is a great metaphor for human love. But it is only a metaphor, because, no matter how hard a couple try, they can never be literally fused into one. The laws of time and space don’t allow it. However, it is a great metaphor for love as the greatest goal in life. You see, they discovered, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit, that people are capable of the mystery of love because they are naturally behaving in imitation of the Creator God who brought them into being in the first place. The reality of all love is God. We REFLECT this reality as the goal of our loves. To put it as simply and elegantly as pos-sible, we have the words of St. John: “God IS love. And we who abide in love abide in God, and God in us.” -Fr. Dennis

Relics of Sts. Fevronia and Peter of Murom arrive here from Russia The saintly Peter Yuryevich became prince of Murom, Rus-sia, on the death of his brother. He eventually fell in love with and married a beautiful woman named Fevronia, who was a gifted healer. Because she was a peasant, the wives of the local nobles wanted nothing to do with her. Under continuing pressure to separate, Peter decided that, rather than do so, he would resign as prince of Murom, and the couple would go into exile. After their departure, there was such unrest and such bickering about who would succeed the prince, the nobles eventually decided to recall the saintly couple, who then governed happily and successfully for many years. Sensing that they were nearing the end of their lives, they decided to become a monk and a nun, taking the new names of David and Euphrosyne. They also prayed that they would die on the same day. They actually did so on July 8, 1226. They were buried together in the cathedral of Murom. Later, after the Soviets destroyed the cathedral, their remains were transferred to the convent of the Holy Trinity in Murom, where they rest to this day. In 2017, Abbot Pavel Uvarov of St. Catherine’s Ca-thedral in Krasnodor asked Bishop Isidor of Krasnodor if he would obtain some of Peter and Fevronia’s relics for a newly built church in their honor. The bishop petitioned Bishop Nil of Murom, who sent the relics to Abbot Paul. A while later, he separated some of the relics and sent them to another Russian church. And in April of 2021, he separated some more of the relics and sent them to our Shrine of All Saints. Their icon in our church is new and just came from Russia. It is dazzlingly and spectacularly colored entirely with tiny beads from the Czech Republic. In the Catholic Church, our equivalents of a saintly couple, who were devoted to each other and were models of Christian love are St. Elizabeth of Hungary (d. 1231) and her husband, Blessed Ludwig IV, landgrave of Thuringia (d. 1227). They were exact contemporaries of Sts. Peter and Fevronia, and they are depicted in the “Marriage Window” in our small church. St. Elizabeth’s relics are in our Shrine of All Saints Church.

THE MYSTERY OF THE BLESSED TRINITY Today we celebrate the solemnity of the Most Ho-ly Trinity. The Church sets aside this Sunday to focus our attention on the mystery of the Blessed Trinity, God who is one, but three persons—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The first reading from Deuteronomy emphasizes both God’s awesome greatness and amazing nearness. It might seem beyond belief, but the God of all crea-tion speaks to us, protects us, and guides us. The sec-ond reading from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Romans describes how we are to relate to the three persons who are one God. We are led by the Spirit to meet God the Father as adopted children. Our adoption is such that we are even heirs with our brother, Christ, the second person of the Trinity, in whose sufferings we must also share. In Matthew’s Gospel, Jesus speaks with his au-thority as God and sends us to teach and baptize in the name of the Trinity.
