My Brothers and Sisters in Christ:
Next Steps . . . . . . . . .
Jesus tells us, that the first and great commandment directs us to love God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all our mind. And the second which very much like it, telling us to love our neighbor as our-selves. St. Luke’s Parish in Live Oak, Florida has been paying attention, feeding the hungry, providing for the healing of the sick, reaching out to the alien among us, and in so many other ways. This parish is showing God’s love in many ways, taking care of physical needs. Thanks be to God!!!!!
So, what are our next steps? How do we begin to address the spiritual? We can help people with the necessities of this temporal life, but how do we begin to help them with the necessities of the eternal life. In ad-dition to bread and physical wellness, how do we provide the real nour-ishment that is the Bread of Life. Jesus gives us the Great Commission, “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you.” So how do we do that?
That is what I would like you to pray about. That is what I would like you to talk to each other about. Pray about it . . . . .talk about it . . . . then bring your ideas and suggestions to a parish meeting on September 23rd at 10:00 am. How can we bring Christ to the world and the world to Christ.

SUNDAYS IN AUGUST Our two services will resume on Sunday August 5th as seen in this chart
DOK TRIENNIAL WORK-SHOP DOK will meet on August 18 from 9 am to 2 pm. All Women of St. Luke's are invited to spend a day learning about the Spiritual workshops from the 2018 DOK Triennial - "Walk His Way!" that was held in Austin, Texas. Ann Thompson and Lydia Bush at-tended the Triennial with 800 Daughters of the King Sisters in Christ from 18 countries and the USA! They will along with St. Luke's DOK President, Maureen Menosky provide information and activities about The Way of Love, Sacred Space and Story Telling Evangelism. Lunch will be pro-vided by St. Luke's and St. James DOK! Come and See..
ONLINE SUNDAY BULLE-TINS A new page on the church website (stlukesliveoak.org) will include Sunday bulletins in their entirety. These are posted by Fri-day, so they will be available be-fore Sunday services. This is a great resource to get updates on upcoming activities, for lectors to look over readings, and saves a little paper. COFFEE HOUR HOSTS C o f f e e h o u r f o l l o w i n g the 11am service has been a tradi-tion at St. Luke’s for many years. It is a great way to get a chance to visit with each other and to meet and greet those visiting and poten-tial members.
The menu can be very simple such as coffee, lemonade, and cookies. It is not meant to be a meal or heavy finger foods, just a light treat. Things are looking pretty bleak. We hope you will think about hosting an upcom-ing Sunday. You can call sign up on bulletin board schedule in the Parish hall. DOK MEETING Daughters of the King will meet for dinner and a time of prayer on Aug 7 at 6pm in the parish hall. BUSY HANDS Busy Hands will meet on Saturday August 4th from 9:30-11am. FREE CLINIC The next Shepherd’s Hands free clinic is August 14th for Live Oak from 5:30-7:30pm. MEN’S GROUP The Men’s Group will meet on Tuesday, August 28th, 2018 at 6pm. Bring your meat for the grill. SOCIAL MOVEMENT The last fitness class will be Aug. 16th in the parish hall. Denise Watson has done a great service to the community’s fitness. Prayers requested as she continues her ed-ucation as a Veterinary Techni-cian. DEACON’S NOTES: This month we will be starting our
English classes again,
so if you know of any-
one needing to learn
English free of charge,
please tell them about
our program. We meet every
week on Monday and Thursday
nights from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm.
We start the last week of August
and go through November until
Thanksgiving. We still need a
babysitter who is licensed in child
care to take charge of the nursery
for us. They do not have to speak
Spanish. Keep us all in your pray-
ers!!
MINISTRY UPDATE Earlier
this year, Bishop Howard desig-
nated Lydia Bush as a Postulant
for Holy Orders in accordance
with the Canons of the Episcopal
Church. Lydia began her training
to become a deacon, this spring,
by participating in a full-time Clin-
ical Pastoral Education Program at
Tallahassee Memorial Hospital for
three months. In July, she began
her diaconal training in the Bish-
op’s Institute at Camp Weed. This
training will continue on weekends
for the next year. During the next
year she will have an increasing
presence in our liturgical worship.
On August 12th, Lydia will be
preaching at both services. Please
give Lydia your support and pray-
ers.
PANTRY UPDATE July has been a month with excep-tional need in the community for food. 106 families (as of 7/30) were able to be helped with shelf stable food as well as fresh vegeta-bles, frozen meats and breads. All this has been possible in the glory of God through the congre-gation’s generosity and our partnership with Gateway Food Bank.

Cuba Dinner Dear St. Luke’s Family, I thank God
for you and your faithfulness to our
brothers and sisters of Cuba. The
dinner to raise $$ for the Cuban
priest’s salaries was amazing! That
same night we raised more than $1550
with promises of more to come. I
know that the Cuban priests and Bish-
op Griselda are all thanking you too!
We also extend our thanks to the Two
Cuban Guys Restaurant who prepared
the food for us. It was a great surprise
to find out that they are from Matan-
zas!! It was a special joy for them to be
with us.

Camp Weed offers a unique summer experience that
allows campers to experience God’s great outdoors, and
through them, experience God.

The Church exists for nothing else but to draw men into Christ, to make them little Christs. If they are not doing that, all the cathedrals, clergy, missions, sermons, even the Bible itself, are simply a waste of time. God became
Man for no other purpose. --C. S. Lewis
——————
The spirit of Christ is the spirit of missions. The nearer we get to Him, the more intensely missionary we become. -- Henry Martyn,
——————
Give me one hundred preachers who fear nothing but sin, and desire nothing but God, and I care not a straw wheth-er they be clergymen or laymen; such alone will shake the gates of hell and set up the kingdom of heaven on
earth. --John Wesley
—————— "There are four things that we ought to do with the Word of God - admit it as the Word of God, commit it to our
hearts and minds, submit to it, and transmit it to the world." - William Wilberforce
—————— "If he have faith, the believer cannot be restrained. He betrays himself. He breaks out. He confesses and teaches
this gospel to the people at the risk of life itself."
Martin Luther
—————
Christ is with us until the world's end. Let his little flock be bold therefore."
- William Tyndale
——————
"The Great Commission is not an option to be considered; it is a command to be obeyed." - Hudson Taylor
——————
"Is not the commission of our Lord still binding upon us? Can we not do more than now we are doing?" - William Carey
—————— The good news of the gospel is that we too, like Mary, have been chosen to be God-bearers to the world, using
the gifts and the lives with which our creator has endowed us.
