**Updating our Sick List**A very important part of our Christian Stewardship is remembering to pray for those who are ill. In an effort to keep our list current and relevant, we are going to begin a process for updating the sick list of the parish. Beginning June 1st, we will now keep names on the list for six (6) months at a time. All names will be removed at the end of the sixmonth period and a new list will begin. If you wish to have a name continued, you must notify the parish before the sixmonth deadline to keep it updated on the list. Also, names may be added or withdrawn at any time throughout the year, as the need arises. You may notify the parish by contacting our parish secretary at 2485428060, by mail, or place a request in the collection basket during Mass. Watch the bulletin for future update reminders.

GOSPEL MEDITATION ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTUREJune 3, 2018 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ

In our modern times, symbol can seem to have lost its value. The most recognizable "signs" are ones we see on the road or the branding in advertisements. The logos for major companies don't do much more than perk our interest or disdain. They surely don't deliver on their promises for our lives to be happier, healthier, and easier.

On this feast of Corpus Christi, we hear the account of the Last Supper. This was Passover, an ancient sign of the covenant of Moses. The Hebrew people celebrated God's providential care for His people. To the listening disciples, Jesus makes a very bold claim. "This is my blood of the covenant." At the time of the first Passover the redemption of the Hebrew people from slavery to the Egyptians the blood of the sacrificial lamb was spread on the lintels of the doorpost. Tomorrow, some of the disciples would witness the blood of the new covenant spread across the wood of the cross.

Christ's Body and Blood are more than a sign. They are a sacrament. In the sacrament, the sign makes real what it signifies. More than ritual, a sacrament enacts truth of the covenantal love of God and His promise of fidelity. It's a promise God keeps. The same bread and wine of that first Holy Thursday liturgy becomes throughout the centuries and until the end of time the very Body and Blood of Christ. On this feast, we celebrate the unfailing covenantal love of our God. As you partake in the Eucharist today, and next Sunday, and the Sunday after that, remember that you receive neither a meaningless sign nor an empty offer. You receive God Himself, as He fulfills His promise to remain with us always.

Stewardship Thoughts

Today’s Scripture readings emphasize the old and new covenants. In the Book of Exodus, Moses brings the ancient Israelites to an agreement with God through the sacrificial blood of young bulls. This action prefigures Jesus’ ultimate sacrifice on the cross for our sins, and the opportunity for eternal salvation. The author of the Letter to the Hebrews contrasts Old Testament sacrifices of goats and calves with the new covenant sealed in the very Blood of Christ. In St. Mark’s Gospel, the evangelist tells of Jesus’ institution of the Eucharist at our Lord’s Last Supper. This action begins the new covenant with His disciples and us a covenant that continues today. As faithful stewards, we believe in Christ’s true presence: Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity, in Holy Communion. By receiving this tremendous gift, we become what we consume, finding strength to live virtuous and holy lives. As a result, with heartfelt gratitude, we deepen our love for God and neighbor in need. Check to see when Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction are scheduled in your parish and spend some quiet time with our Lord and Savior.

Archbishop’s Message

As I shared in my pastoral letter, Unleash the Gospel, each and every person in our Archdiocese is called to encounter Jesus anew, to grow daily as his disciple, and to give witness to the power of his mercy. In this spirit, the theme of the 2018 Catholic Services Appeal isOpening Doors to Grow with Christ.

To be a disciple of Jesus Christ requires a constant process of growth, like the seed that fell on rich soil. Christians seek to be more like Jesus, to treat others as he did, to pray as he prayed, to love as he loved, and to honor God in every area of our lives. As the U.S. bishops summarized in their pastoral letter,Stewardship: A Disciple’s Response, growing as his disciples demands that we embrace stewardship as a way of life.

Each year, we have the opportunity to grow with Jesus through the CSA. As faithful stewards of God’s grace, we live out the Gospel mission of our Church when we embrace the valuable ministries, programs, and services our annual appeal supports. The CSA unites us as a faith community because no one individual or parish could possibly accomplish alone all of these good works that we are able to do together! Because of the CSA and all of the good it accomplishes, we grow with Jesus to become, in the words of Pope Francis, a “band of joyful missionary disciples.”

As you prayerfully consider your pledge to the 2018 Catholic Services Appeal, please take a moment to read and reflect on the gratitude your friends and neighbors have for the CSA and its many benefactors. I am sure you will be inspired to once again make the most generous gift possible.

The Most Reverend Allen H. VigneronArchbishop of Detroit

Cards are displayed in the gathering area of each campus. However, those cards must be purchased at your partnering Meijer Store to ensure your food pantry receives credit for the donation.

Meijer is also bringing back the Double Match event Friday, June 1. During this day Meijer will double match every customer’s $10 Simply Give donation card.

Thanking you for your support SMM St. Vincent de Paul

Attention 2018 College & High School Graduates

Please submit picture and bio NO LATER THAN MONDAY, JUNE 18TH. Thank You!

CSACorpus Christi Mass

Archbishop Allen H. Vigneron will celebrate the feast of Corpus Christi at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament this Sunday, June 3. This great Eucharistic feast of the Body and Blood of Christ will include Mass at 11 a.m. followed by a Eucharistic procession through the streets surrounding the cathedral.

Your CSA gifts support archdiocesan liturgies like this one for the feast of Corpus Christi. All Catholics, especially our most recent neophytes, are invited to express their deep faith in the real presence of Christ and pray for peace in the Archdiocese.

For information about CSAfunded ministries, programs, and services, please go to aod.org.
