A Brief Report : A Seminar was organized on “Personality Development Program” by St. Joseph’s Degree and PG College on 1st November 2021.
98
The seminar was started by Fr. Dr. D. Sunder Reddy, who delivered a speech focusing on personality. He also focused on the importance of workshop like personality development and motivated the new academicians to grab this kind of opportunities.
Human personality influences and impacts the functioning of an individual and organizations. The fact that humans are social is determined by individual as well as collective contexts. Understanding one’s own personality and nurturing it well enables one to be a fine human being and an effective professional.
The session was conducted by Mrs Damandeep Johar. She is an Assistant Professor in HR and Communications department. It was an interactive session. She was very enthusiastic and friendly. The seminar was conducted in an activity based mode in addition to lectures and presentations. Group discussions were also held to make students learn to think collaboratively and also work under competition. All the students participated actively in all the activities. Various Real-life examples were illustrated which were very informative and life changing.
99
In the first part of the session an activity was conducted emphasizing creativity. It was all about how creative thinking plays an important role in any organization. The students were divided into groups consisting 8-10 members in a group. Each group was given a couple of straws. The students had to use their creative ability and build a bridge using the given straws. It was a fun activity which was also very practical and constructive.
100
101
In the second part of the session, the concepts Self-Esteem and Self-Confidence were discussed. Self-esteem is your overall opinion of yourself — how you feel about your abilities and limitations. When you have healthy self-esteem, you feel good about yourself and see yourself as deserving the respect of others. When you have low self-esteem, you put little value on your opinions and ideas.
Self-confidence is an attitude about your skills and abilities. It means you accept and trust yourself and have a sense of control in your life. You know your strengths and weakness well, and have a positive view of yourself.
Later on movies based on self-esteem and self-confidence were discussed. Students were given hand prints about the movie BLINDSIDE. Other related movies like Taare Zameen Par, English Vinglish were also a part of the discussion.
102
Students were taught about Ethics, personal ethics is the code of ethical guidelines that guide you in your personal life. They often develop from your core values and work ethic. Your personal ethics can, and likely will, contain common ethical guidelines that other people share, but they will vary in their level of importance and how to maintain them.
At the end there was another activity where each group was given newspapers and some decorative papers by using which we had to dress up a team member creatively. It was a very amusing activity.
The session was followed by participant’s feedback.
