Belize Trip Blessing
March 30 – April 5
We pray for Your help and blessings on the members of this mission team going to
Belize. Thank you to each person that is taking time out of their busy lives to serve
You by serving others. Thank you that You have spoken to their hearts and that they
are willing to venture outside of their homes, neighborhoods, and comfort zones.
Keep them strong mentally, physically and spiritually. Give them safe travels, energy
and enthusiasm and an ability to be flexible when plans change. May their arrival
at their destination be a sign of Your love to those they serve. Help the smiles and
hugs and acts of friendship of the mission team members clearly communicate
acceptance and comfort to those hungry for You. May they be true ambassadors
for Christ through their actions both on and off their job, both with those they serve
and with their fellow team members. AMEN.

The amazing history of St. Joseph Proto-Cathedral has witnessed life in these parts from primitive pioneer days to the present. As I watch the new parking lot development, I am reminded that the dawn of the automobile age was one of many seen by our Church. One hundred years ago, in 1919, Conway Motors opened it’s doors selling Ford automobiles. One hundred years ago Fr. William D. Pike was appointed Pastor of St. Joseph’s, succeeding Fr. C J O’Connell. At that time, Fr. Wm D. Pike was named Pastor of St. Joseph. He brought the auto age with him. According to my mother, Fr. Pike was among the first to have an automobile in Fairfield. In his day, barns were the popular houses for carriages, wagons and automobiles if, indeed, they were kept under roof at all. In 1921 or 1922, Fr. Pike had a garage put in St. Joseph Rectory’s basement to house his car. Bill Jones, who later started Jones Restaurant, helped dig the ramp leading down to the garage. A most interesting feature of this garage was a Turn Table. Fr. Pike could drive his car onto the turn table, turn his car around and drive forward up the ramp and down the driveway to the street. As a young Priest my first assignment was associate to Msgr. James H. Willett who followed Fr. Pike as Pastor in 1938 or 1939. I remember the garage and the ramp down to it. By my time here, only a trace of the driveway could be seen leading toward Stephen Foster Avenue. Until Fr. Willett came, there was no parking lot as we see it today. The memory of Fr. Pike has endured to this day in persons of our time, who were named after him; one of whom was Pike Conway, and now his grandson, Pikey. Both connected with the automobile and with the Ford dealership founded 100 years ago. This is one of many stories now hidden with the changes, past and present, to better accommodate access to our venerable old Church. There are many, many more. ~Fr. Joe Batcheldor

Marriage Moment
There are many messages to be understood in the story of the Woman
at the Well (John 4:5-42); the role of women, the importance of
hydration, what qualifies a person as a true husband, the woman being
sent as a disciple to proclaim the Christ… Pick one and discuss it
together.
Parenting Pointer
We’re in the middle of Lent. How has abstaining from something (meat,
deserts, gossip, etc.) or doing something extra strengthened you? Has it
made any difference yet? Ask your kids how their Lenten commitment is
going? It’s not too late to refresh, renew, and reboot.

Plastic Cap Ministry Update Have you seen the “pint-sized” picnic table in the pre-school playground located between Flaget Hall and the Parish Hall? If not, drive by and see it under the big shade tree. Know that your efforts to save plastic caps helped the pre-school get another bench and this cute little picnic table for their playground. In recent weeks, we have also been sharing plastic caps with Cox’s Creek Elementary School, Bardstown Baptist Church, and the Bardstown Middle School. They thank you for your contributions and look forward to getting their recycled furniture in the near future. Now, we will begin saving for our Bread for Life Food Pantry! We hope to get a picnic table so the volunteers can take a break and have lunch outside when the weather is nice. So, please keep up the good work and continue saving those plastic caps. In my best estimation we have helped save over 45,000 pounds from the landfill since October 2015. Thanks for continuing to care for God’s beautiful earth! Marie Seaman SFCC
