St John’s Primary School, Jayne St, Frankston East, 3199 TEL 03 9789 9794 / FAX 03 9776 7499 www.sjfrankstoneast.catholic.edu.au EMAIL: [email protected]Dear Parents, Welcome Back To Term 2 The term planner was sent home this week with the dates and events that will be occurring at St. John’s this term. From time to time there are changes to the planner and these are highlighted in the fortnightly news- letter and on our website. Launch of ipads Without doubt last Wednesday nights launch of the ipad program will go down as the best attended meeting in the history of St. John’s! It was almost on a par with the Collingwood/Essendon ANZAC day crowd at the MCG! There was a real buzz around the school last Tuesday and Wednesday in the lead up to the ipad collection meeting. The whole process went ex- tremely well and is a credit to our e-learning team lead by Sarah Ander- son with the support of Lesley Wood. Countless hours of preparation went into setting up the ipads and having them ready for Wednesdays launch. Considering over 150 ipads were distributed to families there have been relatively few problems. A number of families are still waiting on ’Apps’ and a comprehensive letter was sent home on Wednesday ex- plaining the process to be followed for these to be accessed. Staff are available before school to assist families that may be experienc- ing ‘teething’ problems. The ‘push out’ of apps will continue between 6-8pm each night to ensure that all children have the 15 approved apps on their ipads with the plan for formal lessons using these apps to start next Monday. St John’s community can be rightfully proud that we are one of the first schools in the Frankston area to launch the ownership of ipads for every student in grades 3-5. We will continue to inform parents of how the ipads are being used as a resource/tool for learning in the newsletter, via class ‘blogs’ and on the school web site. LITERACY UPDATE
Congratulations to our St John’s Super Readers! There are many children who have their reading underway. Please remember, that it is not too late
to register. Students must use their username and password provided at the end of last term and go to http://www.education.vic.gov.au/prc/
If your child has misplaced their details, please see Lisa Kniese for this in-formation. The Challenge finishes in September, so there is still plenty of
time to read and achieve success. Happy reading!
Congratulations to those who returned their registrations promptly and were entered in the raffle for the Toys R Us voucher and gift packs:
3rd Farai Gambiza 2nd Blake Ames
1st Sarah Lewis Our next prize is for the class with the most students registered. They
will be receiving a special class lunch! This will be drawn on Friday 16th May.
Just a reminder, that all junior classes now have their literacy rosters out-side the classroom. Please consider whether you could possibly assist.
All adults working in our classrooms must have a current “Working with Children Card” that the office has sighted and photocopied. Please make
sure that you nominate as a volunteer at St John’s when applying for the card. Please feel free to see me if you need this process explained.
