ST. JOHN THE EVANGELIST CHURCH - WWW.STJOHNSWINTHROP.ORG WINTHROP
Congratulations to the 56 young women and men who were confirmed here at St. John’s on Sunday, May 20th by The Very Rev. James A. Flavin, VE. Pray for them as they begin their adult journey of faith.
The sick and the handicapped, the aging and the dying.
I ask you to reconcile those in sin, to heal those in pain
And to uplift those who have lost their hope and joy.
Show to those who struggle in doubt
The light of Christ your Son. Amen.
Saint Pope John Paul II
TRINITY SUNDAY
First Reading: Deuteronomy 4: 32-34, 39-40
The book of Deuteronomy contains a lengthy speech that Moses addressed to the people as they prepared to enter the Promised Land. This was a place where the people worshiped many gods and goddesses. Moses reminds them that there is only one God - the One who brought them out of Egypt. Second Reading: Romans 8: 14-17
Paul’s letter to the Romans is his most detailed and important theological work. In this portion of the letter, Paul stresses the importance of the Holy Spirit in the lives of Christians. Through the Spirit’s presence within us, we enjoy not only new life but also a new relationship with God, whom we can call by a new name. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = This weekend, May 26th/27th, flowers have been placed on our altar in memory of Gilberto Lima, Tony
Raposo and Alfredo Rodrigues by their loving family. You have the opportunity to have flowers placed on our altar in memory of loved ones. The flower piece will be a basket placed in front of the lectern. The parish makes arrangements for the flowers. The name of your loved one and the donor will be placed in the bulletin for that weekend. The donation is $50. Please call the rectory if you are interested in donating flowers for a particular weekend. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = In your charity, please pray for the souls Annette Mailhiot and Rosemary Severin who were buried from St. John’s this past week. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

A WORD ABOUT RCIA RCIA is the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a process by which adults “after hearing the mystery of Christ proclaimed, consciously and freely seek the living God. By God’s help, they will be strengthened spiritually during their preparation and will receive the Sacraments fruitfully”. The RCIA program includes people who were never baptized; those baptized in another faith; and those who were baptized Catholic but have never received the Sacraments of Eucharist or Confirmation. If you are interested in the Catholic Faith or have a friend or relative who may be interested in making this journey of faith, please invite that person to contact Sister Jane at the rectory at 617 846-7400. = = = = =
Is There Anyone Sick Among You? This question found in the New Testament letter to James, gives the response that the sick should call for the priests of the church who are to pray over and anoint the sick with oil in the name of the Lord. Never hesitate to ask for prayer and the Sacrament of the Sick prior to surgery or when diagnosed with a serious illness. The Sacrament is not looked on as “The Last Rites” but as a powerful instrument of God’s healing presence.

Home Visit If you know of someone who is unable to attend Mass due to age or health problems and would like to receive the Eucharist, please have them call the rectory at 617 846-7400 to arrange for a home visit. = = = = =
