| 20TH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME | AUGUST 16, 2015 2
STAFF DAY OF REFLECTION The Parish and School Offices will be
closed on Wednesday, August 19, so that all can participate in the
Staff Day of Reflection.
OUR TRADE SCHOOL IN PIURA After we sent a check to Fr. Joe Uhen
from our Lenten collection for the trade school, he replied this
way.
We have been enjoying the St. John Vianney Trade School in
Piura. We now have computer science and sewing/design added to our
masonry and cosmetology classes with enough students to open a
third 40 person class for cosmetology and another 20 person class
for computer science. Baking and auto repair will be
functioning before the end of the year. We are getting high
marks from people in the know for our trade school offerings. And
we continue to build and build. We decided to add shops next to our
new (and still being built) baking pavilion so that what our
students learn and can offer will be available to the public...
hair cuts, baked bread and desserts, clothes (and repair), computer
work/secretarial, construction, metalwork, auto repair, etc…
Thank you so much for bringing such joy to our people by
empowering them and helping them discover their potential.
Padre Joe
Thanks to your generosity the check we sent down was for
$52,981.69. Here are some of the pictures.
Blessings, Fr. Ken Knippel

SJV ALUM RECEIVES JSEA AWARD Kevin Cekanor was selected as the
winner of the Jesuit Secondary Education Association (JSEA) Award
for the Class of 2015 at Marquette University High School
(MUHS).
All young men who graduate from MUHS have completed a program of
formation that strives to develop
in each person the characteristics and qualities that reflect
the tradition and ideals of Jesuit Education. Each graduate is
provided with and asked to respond generously to the challenge to
become a young man who is: Seeking Intellectual Excellence, Open to
Growth, Religious, Loving and Committed to Justice. The JSEA Award
annually recognizes the student that most exemplifies these five
qualities of the “Graduate at Graduation” and is voted on by all
faculty and staff at MUHS. It is a significant honor for Kevin to
be the recipient of this award. He was selected as the winner from
a class of 248 students. It is also an affirmation of the formation
provided by St. John Vianney prior to him being a student at
MUHS.
Jeff Monday, Principal, MUHS
This fall, Kevin will be attending Xavier University in
Cincinnati, OH. He plans to study sports marketing/sports
management. Kevin will be part of the Community-Engaged Fellowship
who are involved in a host of diverse, hands-on community
opportunities throughout the Cincinnati region drawing upon
principles of social justice, community building and public policy.
They are guided by faculty and community engagement professionals
on campus and in the field. This is a four-year scholarship
opportunity awarded to eight first-year students who have
demonstrated extraordinary leadership or initiative in the area of
community engagement or service through their school, community or
church, and who have shown high academic achievement.

OPEN MEETING There is an Alcoholic Anonymous open meeting on
Thursday, August 20, at 8 PM in the Church Hall. Everyone is
invited to attend and learn how people live with the disease of
alcoholism.
WHAT’S THIS? Introductory Rites—The introductory rites of the
liturgy are intended to remind us of who we are and what we are
about to do. The introductory rites of the Mass include:
The entrance procession The sign of the cross and greeting
The act of penitence The Glory to God
The opening prayer (collect) The Glory to God We sing or recite
the Gloria (Glory to God) at all Sunday Masses, solemnities, and
feasts except during
Advent and Lent. We are reminded of God’s goodness shown to us
through all of our many blessings, graces and gifts.
The Glory to God infuses us with an attitude of gratitude and
thanksgiving. The Glory to God is a hymn of praise echoing the
angels at the birth of the Lord, “Glory to God in the
highest, and on earth peace to people of good will.” (Luke 2:14)
The text elaborates on this message of the angels, recognizing the
goodness and mercy of the Lord God through his Son, Jesus Christ.
This prayer dates back to the sixth century.
It is a hymn of pure praise of God for God’s goodness and glory
and as such, our voices should be lifted in praise as we say
it!
ALL SAINTS MEAL PROGRAM THURSDAY, AUGUST 20, 2015 Please bring

a substitute from among the other volunteers.

in some capacity, please call Chuck or Debbie Potter at
262-786-3651.

PARISH STEWARDSHIP: PARISH STEWARDSHIP: A DISCIPLE’S RESPONSA
DISCIPLE’S RESPONSEE
LET’S LIVE LIKE THAT There is the danger of complacency,
comfort, worldliness in our lifestyles and in our hearts, of making
our well-being the most important thing in our lives. How do some
people, people ourselves included, end up becoming self-absorbed
and finding security in material things which ultimately rob us of
our face, our human face? This is what happens when we become
complacent, when we no longer remember God…If we don’t think about
God, everything ends up flat, everything ends up being about “me”
and my own comfort. Life, the world, other people, all of these
become unreal, they no longer matter, everything boils down to one
thing: having. When we no longer remember God, we too become
unreal, we too become empty…Those who run after nothing become
nothing. - Pope Francis Heavenly Father, you know me, you know my
heart, and you know how easily I can become self-absorbed, overly
focused on “me” and “things” rather than you and others. Help me to
look upward and outward, rather than inward, and teach me to share
rather than covet.
ST. VINCENT DE PAUL MEAL PROGRAM Tuesday, August 18, 2015 Please
bring your food item to the Narthex and chicken casseroles to the
church kitchen. Drivers for August are Don & Katy Horning and
the Booth Family. Servers are Pam Beckman and Christine Pfankuch.
Thank you to everyone who helps with the St. Vincent de Paul meal
program.
YOU DID IT FOR ME In August 2014, ISIS forced thousands of Iraqi
families out of their homes. Many of those families sought refuge
to the north in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. Thanks to CRS and
Caritas Iraq, child support centers are being built to help more
than 2,000 Iraqi children heal and find structure and normalcy in
their disrupted childhoods with games and learning activities
CURRENT JULY/JUNE FISCAL YEAR WEEKLY OFFERINGS REPORT Sunday,
08/09/15 Envelopes & Offertory $24,641
Thank you for your gift.
PRAYER, MINISTRY & OFFERINGS Almighty God, we have been
formed by the word of your Son. May his word take flesh in our
lives and in our service to the poor and the needy.
OUTREACH The following funds have been distributed: $750 to
Center of Concern, which is a strong and articulate voice of
justice for the Catholic and interfaith community here in the U.S.
and globally. They try to analyze the underlying causes of
injustices and offer alternatives for change. They ask the
difficult “why” questions. Why do these systems exist that cause
such human suffering? Then they focus on examining the roots of
injustice.
Next weekend (August 22-23) there will be a second collection
for the SJV Conference of St. Vincent de Paul at all Masses. This
collection provides us with the resources necessary to respond to
the
calls for help that we receive almost every day from poor and
needy persons in the Waukesha County area. Because of your
financial donations, the assistance that we are able to provide
includes payments for rent, temporary shelter for the homeless,
utility bills (including getting service restored after shutoff),
medicine and medical bills, auto fuel and repairs, school supplies,
clothing and household items. We also provide vouchers that our
patrons can use to purchase clothing, furniture and other household
goods at the Waukesha County SVDP stores. These may include some
things you have donated to SVDP at the stores or via our parish
collections.
The ongoing financial support that we have received from the
members of St. John Vianney Parish is very much appreciated and is
necessary for us to continue our ministry to the poor. We ask for
your continued generosity. If you will not be attending Mass at SJV
on August 22-23, you can make your donation via the Parish Office
or by placing your check or cash donation in the SVDP poor boxes at
the entrances to church. Please also continue to include all
Vincentians and the people we serve in your prayers. Thank you
again for your support.

CATHOLIC HERALD...THE HERALD OF HEPP? When Bishop Donald J.
Hying left for Indiana, the Catholic Herald lost a longtime
columnist. One of the priests tapped to fill in as a Herald of Hope
writer in the Catholic Herald is Fr. Pat Heppe. Inspirational yet
practical, Fr. Pat’s messages resonate with Catholics, reaching
them where they are—even on the bike trail, as he showed in a
recent column. Read Fr. Pat’s next Herald of Hope – or Herald of
Hepp – as he terms it, in the August 20 issue of the Catholic
Herald. To subscribe to the weekly Catholic Herald, call
