On September 28, 2019, the Holy Father, Pope Francis appointed Fr. Bart van Roijen as the 11th Bish-op of Corner Brook and Labrador! Bishop-elect van Roijen will be ordained to the episcopate on De-cember 12th, 2019, at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Redeemer and Immaculate Conception in Corner Brook, NL. The Diocese of Nelson has been blessed by the pastoral care of Fr. Bart since his ordina-tion on April 25, 1997, in the parishes of Kelowna – ICC, St. Pius X and St. Charles Garnier, Grand Forks, Trail, Sparwood, Fernie and their respective missions. Fr. Bart has been the Vicar General since February 2017 and has served on countless committees supporting the works of the Diocese of Nelson. This is a great honour for the Diocese of Nelson. Bishop-elect van Roijen is the first priest from the diocese to be called to the episcopate. His great love for the Church and her people will be a real blessing to the Diocese of Corner Brook and Labrador as well as his many gifts, especially his humility, wisdom and humour. We are very happy for him and the Church, but know that he will be deeply missed by the faithful of the diocese. We wish him every blessing in his new appointment and call to serve as a bishop. Ad multos annos!
